Complete privacy, a garden setting in a safe family neighborhood, yet minutes from everything! This completely furnished apartment has restaurants withing walking distance, busway access nearby, and is minutes from downtown or Oakland.

The Space

I have a private, fully furnished carriage house apartment behind my house, available for daily, weekly, or monthly rental. The apartment was renovated and furnished for use by my family when they visit. It includes just about everything you could want, including luxury linens, towels, a fully equipped kitchen, iron, hair dryer, cable, a TV, books and a desk. The apartment has a new kitchen with fridge, range and microwave, a living /dining combo with a pull out couch (twin bed), a bathroom with tub/shower, and a bedroom with a comfy queen size bed.
You control your own AC and heat, and no ones sleeps above, below or thru the wall next to you!
And the neighborhood? The place is located in my lush garden of a back yard, in the Edgewood neighborhood of beautiful restored historic homes. There are several restaurants, a pizza place, bar, laundry and two convenience stores within a few blocks, and a little less than a mile away is a shopping district with an art gallery, art film theater, all types of restaurants, spa, yoga place, jewelry store, etc. (Regent Square for those of you who know the 'burgh!) I have been renting this place, mostly by the month, for several years now, mostly to CMU researchers, doctors on rotation at UPMC, and artsy types like an actor in "Wicked" and a producer of a movie filmed here this summer. This is a perfect place for a person who wants to stay somewhere really, really clean, and private while visiting Pittsburgh. Oh, and there is free parking for one car. The busway into Oakland or downtown is about a six block walk, or two blocks to a feeder bus that takes you to the busway.
The apartment is up a flight of stairs, a spiral stair with open back risers. It is very safe and easy to go up, but if you do not like metal stairs, or spiral stairs, you would be more comfortable somewhere else.
If you have an infant or small child, let me know, and I can assist by leaving toys, books, a crib, high chair, stroller, etc in the apartment if you like.

Guest Access

The entire apartment, with a private entrance is exclusively for the guest. The guest may use the adjoining terrace and outdoor dining area, and gas grille.

Interaction with Guests

We will interact with the guests as much as they want! Experiences have ranged from never even meeting the guest to drinks on the porch. We live in the home on the same property, so normally we are around in case there are problems or questions .

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is very walker friendly. Many neighbors are out running or walking their dogs, and there are restaurants, stores, bars, a library and art film theater within walking distance. It is very much a residential community though, so it is very private and quiet.

Getting around

There is a bus route about a block and half away. A few blocks more, and you have access to a high speed busway directly into Oakland and downtown Pittsburgh.

Other Things to Note

The apartment is stocked with everything a person would normally need. If you let us know in advance, we can add a portable crib, highchair, toys for a child, or other specific things to make your stay better.

  • This was the perfect place to stay while we were in town. We loved having a clean kitchen to cook a meal in after a long day, it was well stocked with all of the essential cooking utensils, pots, pans, and condiments. The neighborhood was really nice, lots of families and Suzan's garden was beautiful!!! We had a great stay.

  • Suzan and Bob were very helpful and engaging. The 'carriage house' is an adorable little apartment with just about anything you could possibly need. We were greeted by fresh fruit and muffins! It is located in a beautiful neighborhood and we felt extremely comfortable there. We would definitely stay there again if we were in Pittsburgh! Highly recommended!

  • Our experience was great! Suzan's carriage house was absolutely lovely, hospitable, clean, welcoming, and in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. The hosts provided ample information about the home, area, and logistics, and were very responsive to any inquiries. The property is absolutely gorgeous and the pictures provided do not really do the carriage house proper justice, it is much better in person! We were so comfortable for the few days we were there and hope to return when we are in the area.

  • This was our first time using airbnb, and we are now hooked thanks to our experience with Suzan. She was quick to respond to our initial request, and was consistent with that same level of attentiveness throughout our stay. We were greeted upon our arrival by Suzan and her husband, who helped us with our bags and showed us to our temporary perch. They explained the ins and outs, and welcomed us to the basket of treats they had supplied. As my 8yo son said, it was like an awesome mini-bar, but in a house! The coach house itself was like the perfect cozy cottage. It is comfortably and adorably furnished, and has everything you need to make you feel at home. There was even a basket of wooden trains that my son played with the entire trip. We were in town for Carnegie Mellon visit, and it took us fifteen minutes to get there. Their location is perfect. We explored the city, and never felt too far away from anything. Looking forward to a return stay when we are next in Pittsburgh.

  • Had a great stay at Suzan's carriage house! I stayed there for two weeks and it really felt like a home. The place has everything you need - especially the kitchen is well equipped. I really liked that there was some food and snacks in the house already, so you don't have to go to the grocery store immediately after arriving. There were also directions to the nearest shops left on the table, as well as some information on Pittsburgh. Suzan is a great host! I definitely recommend this place.

  • The private carriage house was our home base for the ten days we spent visiting my daughter in Pittsburgh. Location was great - less than a fifteen minute walk to the Regent Square area. The house was spotless and Suzan left all sorts of snacks, coffee, and toiletries for our use. Suzan even allowed us to leave our bags at the carriage house the day we were checking out since it wasn't rented for that evening and we did not need to get to the Pittsburgh airport until 9pm. also, there were interesting magazines and travel brochures for the Pittsburgh area for us to peruse.

  • Suzan Lami was a gracious host. The apartment was as advertised...set up quite well. The location was close to most of the major attractions. The location was safe and had parking near the apartment. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone visiting the Pittsburgh area.

  • Suzan's carriage house was absolutely perfect for my family. Beautiful grounds, a truly lovely neighborhood. A little walk over to Regent Square for some nice restaurants. A great experience.

  • My college-age daughters and I had a wonderful time at Suzan's place! We were moving one of them into the dorm for her first year at Pitt, and the location was perfect. Not right in the middle of campus with all its busyness this time of year... It's been my goal to explore one Pittsburgh neighborhood each time we visit, and so this time it was Squirrel Hill, as it was on the way into Oakland. Suzan anticipated our needs and was a most welcoming host. Hoping to come back soon.

My husband and I are both architects, and have our own architectural firm about a block away from our house. The carriage house you are renting is behind our house. We are empty nesters, and travel frequently for business.
