The Space

"Staying with Jessica at the historic mansion was quite a remarkable experience. It was not only one of the nicest homes I have ever stayed at on Airbnb, but Jessica made one of the best breakfasts that I have ever had . . . better than any breakfast spot we found, so if you stay here, I recommend sticking around for breakfast. The photos do not do the first floor justice. It is massive, but also very charming. We stayed in the top floor, and the room was beautifully designed and arranged for us. After staying with Jessica, I would recommend it as one of the best Airbnb's in New York, and a must visit if you want to experience the authenticity of a Brooklyn brownstone neighborhood, the charm of an historic mansion, and the soul of Jessica's hospitality. In other words, this is a 6 star experience, even though we only allow 5 stars to be left." ~ Brian Chesky, Co-founder and CEO, Airbnb

"Jessica and Doug's home is incredible. A remarkable piece of Brooklyn history, lovingly and carefully revived by painstaking work and Jessica's eye for design and space. Every detail has a story, and the whole makes for what may be one of the more iconic listings on Airbnb. Jessica is a consummate hostess, kind and attentive to any needs I highly recommend a stay here if you come through NYC and can snag a room. I'll certainly be back many times." ~ Wrede Petersmeyer, General Manager NYC, Airbnb

"Wow, what a treat! Jessica was an unbelievable host, thank you!! Prompt to respond, easy check-in and out. Her place is absolutely unique and beautiful. Truly a treat to spend time there. Easy commute into the city makes this a plus. I would definitely recommend Jessica's place to anyone traveling to New York!!" ~ Joe Gebbia, Co-founder & Chief Product Officer, Airbnb

"Jessica and Doug's home is spectacular—a 5-story, circa 1887 brownstone built for the Pfizer pharmaceutical family, gorgeously restored and updated, and complete with an original, wrought-iron Otis elevator. She has mixed it up with beautiful art, lighting, and highly collectible midcentury designer furniture. The house is in the Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill neighborhood, a landmarked, beautiful area filled with historic buildings, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Ft. Greene Park, and close to good restaurants and subways. Most important, though, if you're thinking about staying here, is that J&D are warm, witty, delightful company. She's also an excellent cook. He's a serious jazz and wine aficianado. I recommend them 100%—it's an experience!" ~ Ted Allen, writer, cookbook author, and television personality

"A gorgeous restored Brooklyn brownstone with airy modernist updates: it was one of the most beautiful houses I've ever been in. I've essentially been living in luxury hotels for a few years… [this] was one of the top experiences at a hotel that I've ever had.” ~ Sarah B.

"This was our first experience with Airbnb as an alternative to boutique hotels, and this place beats out on such hotels not only in terms of quality, service, and price performance but with the added personal touches as well." ~ Rana

Under New York law, short term rentals (less than 30 days) are not permitted when the owner/renter is away. Although legal when the owner/renter is present, many multi-unit building's leases and bylaws prohibit short term rentals.

Many guests are being asked not to mention Airbnb and to say that they are simply friends of the host. In buildings where such renting is prohibited the management can remove a guest. Ask if you are renting legally before booking.

  • Excellent stay in Brooklyn for my first experience with airbnb. The Washington St. mansion is over-the-top amazing. It's a beautiful place to stay in a great neighborhood. Jessica provides a very warm welcome and is an incredible host. Breakfast was one of the most enjoyable aspects of my stay. Very highly recommended.

  • Jessica and her family were so accommodating! They made arrival times and check-out times very convenient for the 8 of us staying here. From the moment we arrived, Jessica made us feel very welcome. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the beds were comfortable and the house was amazing! Location, location, location! Jessica was so hospitable and she even made a port-a-crib available for us when she found out we had a baby coming with us.

Overall, I can't say enough positive things about our stay at 280 Washington. Thanks, Jessica! We will be back!

  • My partner, our three college-aged children and I spent the weekend in NYC, using Jessica's Brownstone as our home away from home. We were enthralled with the beautiful space and the comfort of the rooms, and were especially touched by the warm and friendly environment provided by her and her family. We enjoyed several long conversations with them in their living room and found them completely accommodating of our needs. We took them up on their excellent suggestions of local restaurants, and enjoyed their knowledge of Brooklyn history and attractions. The breakfast Jessica provided was a class act - sending us on our days' journeys well-nourished. It was our good fortune to be able to spend the weekend with them in beautiful Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. May others be so fortunate as well!

We are thrilled to welcome people into our family house (and we love to make breakfast! ). It's just the kind of place that we would want to stay if we were visiting New York! We enjoy meeting interesting, creative and passionate people from around the world and sharing our love of Brooklyn and New York City with them -- the history, food, art, architecture, and music. What we offer is a room in a beautiful house. We are relaxed and welcoming. We ask that our guests make themselves at home (and we do all we can to make them as comfortable as possible). Staying with us is like staying with friends or family (who can cook well). We do not have locks on room doors (although we do fully respect our guest's privacy). This is not a hotel or a bed and breakfast "business" (no teddy bears or pot pourri). It is sometimes elegant and sometimes casual. We like vintage furniture, street art, local food, and all kinds of music ... an urban sensibility. It's 'real life' in this house -- we have dogs who are enthusiastic greeters, teenagers who are in and out and friends who stop by. That said, we try really hard to make each guest's stay wonderfully memorable. Please read our reviews. We have had amazing guests!
