Interaction with Guests
Sometimes Eleonora is here and sometimes she is not. But there is always a property manager here for you.
We are about a 15 minute walk from the center of Urubamba where you can find a fresh market, stores, restaurants and a few bars.
We are up on Calle Ccatan in the Valley, surrounded 360 degrees by mountains - it's all private. There is farm land around, lettuce, plums, pears, bees making honey, corn, sunflowers ...
There is no internet yet in the area, it is quiet, peaceful and private. Ah yes, and we have two alpacas in our garden.
Moto taxis go up and down the road and for a dollar will take you to the center. For two they will take you to the bus terminal where you can catch buses to Ollantaytambo (where you catch the train to Machu Picchu), Pisac, Cuzco, Maras etc.
We are close to all and very easy to get to.
From Cuzco airport, take a taxi or a bus to Urubamba. It takes about 1 to 1.15 hours.

When you get to IllaWasi, you dont just feel welcome - you feel yourself at home. Such a warm greeting! Eleonora is a beautiful host! She arranged everything for us starting with a ticket purchase to get to Cusco, arranging a pick up from the airport and greeting us at the property. A house itself is lovely. 2 stories, great interior and decorations and most of all - super clean ! Best part, is that property is located up on a hill and you feel like you are in a completely private environment. House is surrounded by nature and organic gardens. They even have a pet llama on the property! Eleonora would take many extra steps and any effort needed to make you feel at home and help you get the most out of your stay in Valle Sagrada. Do not waste your time and money booking anything else. Stay at IllaWasi and you will not be sorry. If you like privacy, if you like to stay away from tourist crowds and cliche vacationing - book now! If you going to Macchu Picchu, take a train from Ollanta, which is just 30 mi away from IllaWasi. Do not waste time taking train from Poroy. Thank you Eleonora, for all your kindness and positive energy. Will never forget this place and will definitely come back! Enjoyed is much more than Cusco.
Sacred Valley House of Passion was a huge step up for us compared to the other places we stayed in Peru at a similar price point. My husband and I had the entire house (which includes two levels, kitchen area, two bathrooms and lots of space to lounge around) to ourselves and really enjoyed the artistic decor which really fits the pachamama vibe of the sacred valley.
The Illa Wasi grounds are located about a 10-15 minute walk outside of Urubamba, which is a small village in the valley worth a visit to catch a glimpse of the Quechua people at their daily grind. You should be aware that the walk into town is pretty easy, mostly downhill following a narrow dirt road. The uphill walk back could be exhausting however, so I would recommend taking one of the easy to find mototaxis on your return which will cost 3 soles (approx $1 USD).
Ollantaytambo, city where you catch the train to Machu Picchu, is about half an hour away from Urubamba, so this location is convenient for your Machu Picchu visit. And the staff was very helpful with arranging transport and sharing general travel advice.
One night, Jorge arranged a bonfire for us and the other guests. He even brought his guitar and played for us. It was a really nice night spent under the stars, chatting with other travelers and enjoying some beers.
This area is very quiet and meant to be a place where you can relax and take in Urubamba and the Sacred Valley at a slow pace. If you are looking for action and wild night life, you will be better off in Cuzco. We stayed in Cuzco for our first 4 nights, then switched to Illa Wasi for our last 3.
We ordered dinner one night and breakfast one morning. Both meals were very good but a little pricey compared to local standards. So I would recommend grocery shopping and making the most of your kitchen or grabbing a bite in Urubamba.
My only recommendations for improvement include the following:
1. Kitchen doesn't have a fridge. I would recommend adding a small one for quests.
2. WiFi was patchy. However, I can't really complain about that because it was not advertised on Airbnb as having wifi.....it's just a luxury that travelers always appreciate.
Thanks to the Illa Wasi crew for a nice stay!
Thanks for the review Roseann, Debra and Jorge loved hosting your stay so it's great that you found them helpful and yes, our fires with music are a bonus! Internet connection in the mountain area is very patchy and this is why we don`t offer it as a service to guests as we don`t want to raise expectations. Thanks for your suggestions for improvements. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip.
