About this listing
10-minute walk to rail station, market square. Shops + restaurants downstairs. 6th floor (with lift to 5), superb views + light. Shared area larger than many in Cambridge. Freshly renovated. Friendly, responsible American owner.
Kitchen has dishwasher and full-sized refrigerator/ freezer (not a tiny under-counter fridge). Entertaining is a real possibility.
Rare to have such good views and light in Cambridge. Bedrooms face east, the rest has afternoon light and knockout sunset views. Building is admittedly 60s unappealing council block but safe; flat itself is lovely. Decor is mix of Asian, antiques, vintage, modern. Sofas are comfy and you can rest feet on coffee tables; I certainly do. Linens are 5 star hotel quality.
It's your space, within reason. You're welcome to receive friends, use kitchen (there's a dishwasher).
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes I'll be able to meet you, but basically it's a self-service flat. If there are any reasons to meet or if I can help you, I'll be happy to; I live close by.
On foot, this building is 1 minute from a pretty good Chinese restaurant serving homemade noodle specialties (Sesame); 2 minutes from two great Chinese restaurants (Yim Wah-Cantonese and Seven Days-Szechuan), 3 minutes from 2 charity shops, 5 minutes to Downing College and Emmanuel; 10 minutes to Kings College, the Fitzwilliam, the river... 7 minutes to swimming pool, Hughes Hall and Mill Road, then along the length of Mill Road there are 7 more charity shops, vintage shops and independents of all kinds.
Directly on bus line, 2 stops to main bus station. Quick walk to/from train station and to airport bus stop. (Directions: When you leave train station, walk straight up Station Road to Hills Road (large intersection). Turn right, then four streets up just past Cooperative grocery store and Domino's Pizza is Coronation Street. Turn left then quick right onto George IV Street. The large building in front of you is Hanover Court. On the right end is an entry that has a lift. Take it to 5th floor, then go nearly to end of long hallway and you'll see stairs marked 54. Your place is up those stairs, there's a table soccer game in front of the door :-)
Bike rentals at train station or Mill Road. Several Zipcar locations close by.
Other Things to Note
A small dog (no cats) may be allowed but it's not super-safe for them, windows are too accessible from beds and it's 6 stories up. If it's hugely necessary to have your dog I have window guards but they are not 100% foolproof, they worked for my puppy but....I take NO responsibility.
Single bedroom is about 2 metres x 2.70, so single bed doesn't allow for more than ONE person. Bed is 90cm x 185cm, with memory mattress that is highly spoken of; practically internationally famous.
Big bedroom has double bed 140 x 200 with memory foam mattress as well.
Third bed is sofabed in living room, 130 x 190 normal mattress; I'm told it's quite comfortable.

Parking: I have a visitor's permit for your car which allows you to park in the off-street Residents' Carpark but it does NOT apply to the adjacent street "Residential" parking. You will get a ticket if you park in the street.
Let common sense reign. Don't touch the fragile antique screens please. No smoking ever-ever in the flat, but there's a large open-air landing just outside the front door where you can smoke. You may read but DON'T take my books. If you borrow the parking permit you must remember to leave it when you go. Remember to lock door and don't forget key! Bring sunshine with you! Enjoy Cambridge!
Main bedroom has double bed, antique inlaid screen and 50s kiri tansu (drawers) plus wardrobe for hanging clothes.
