Description

The space

The Keeley Villa is built on the edge of the village of Kastro, on top of a high cliff on the island's northwestern shore on the site of the ancient Kastro in the Cyclades Island group in Greece. The village has extensive medieval remains and is the location of the island's archeological museum.

Our private one story Villa house has 3 bedrooms and comfortably sleeps five individuals. It has a full kitchen, dining room and leisure space. The star of our Villa is the stunning wrap around veranda that allows for panoramic views of the Aegean Sea!

Guests at the Keeley Villa will have access to stunning sunsets, full use of the Villa, and free wifi and cable. The house is located at the end of a path with stairs to climb that may be difficult for an elderly person. The caretaker or the taxi driver can assist. Please read the house notes at the start of your stay, that will familiarize yourself with the house and your stay in Kastro Village.

Our interaction with guests will be via telephone or email interface. The Keeley Villa caretaker, Mrs. Koula Koumakis will greet guests, provide them with a key to the Keeley Villa and be available should a need arise.

Kastro is the old capital of Sifnos and the seat of Sifnos' Archdiocese (6th-19th centuries). Kastro is one of the most picturesque and beautiful villages and the most important village of the island from an archaeological point of view. To the east of Kastro, the picturesque country church of the Seven Martyrs (Eftamartires) on the rock and the open view of the sea are magic. To the north, the ancient path leads to Panagia Poulati (Virgin of Poulati), a landscape of “perfect beauty" and ideal for plunges from the rocks. To the west of the village and under the foot of the hill of Kastro there is the small pebble beach (ancient port of the island) of Gialos or “Seralia", a name deriving from the Turkish word saray (=palace), because of the palaces that once existed in this area.

There is convenient local public transportation in the form of a Sifnos bus(s) that run hourly throughout the island. There is a bus stop at the foot of the path to our Villa. Additionally, a guest has the option of renting a moped or car at the Sifnos port.

Four of us stayed for three nights and had a wonderful time. The view is incredible and the area very quiet. Kastro village is very charming and Sifnos island has many wonderful villages and beaches as well.

Kastro is a beautiful hill top town perched over the sea, with narrow streets and whitewashed buildings. The villa is dramatically perched on the top of a cliff overlooking the sea, to the North, just down hill from Kastro itself. Very windy while we were there in mid September. The house is comfortable and well-equipped. There are a couple of eating places in Kastro including Restaurant Astra with beautiful slow cooked lamb and rabbit dishes, and many more in Appolonia, 3 k away. Buses are about five times a day. Swimming beach is ten minutes walk and several other places provide swimming off the rocks if the sea is calm. Walking tracks from Kastro to many other places on the island are numerous and really well signposted. You just have to be prepared to share them with the farmers and their mules and sheep at times! The Minimart in Kastro provides no fresh produce apart from potatoes and milk and yoghurt and eggs. Several supermarkets in Appolonia have some fresh produce, but the best fresh produce we saw was in Kamares where the ferry comes in so might be worth buying up there on arrival. Koula is very helpful and kind, and nonverbal communication goes a long way with her. We really enjoyed our stay at Christopher's house.

There were for of us staying here, the house was in a gorgeous location in Sifnos just below the picturesque labyrinth city of Kastro. Sometimes it's a bit too windy to sit outside and enjoy the view but still stunning nonetheless. The house could do with a little maintenance to fix loose door handles and some of the windows that don't easily open. The one thing we all noticed was that there was a lot of decorative "stuff' on many of the usable surfaces in the kitchen/living/dining room which made it difficult for us to use the space freely without feeling like we had to move the fragile things and worry we would break something.

A beautifully secluded traditional Greek home that could use a bit of TLC. We stayed for 5 nights and really enjoyed the views, stars and surrounding area. The sound of the sea and wind at night is lovely and wild. Visually, the house is beautiful however we felt there were a few key things that made our stay feel a little less welcoming. For example, the kitchen worktop and the floors throughout the living space were dirty on arrival and we had to wash all kitchen equipment prior to use. It was also unfortunate to not be provided with some bare essentials, such as hand soap, washing up liquid, cooking oil and bin bags. These missing items were made more inconvenient by Kastro's lack of a supermarket. Lastly, whilst the property's age is charming, there are a few maintenance tasks that we feel need addressing eg. the shower head in the indoor bathroom falls forward during use, some of the windows don't close properly, the fridge is noisy and the window in the bathroom could use a latch to hold it open. Whilst it's a lovely family retreat in a stunning area on an incredible island, Kastro Keeley could do with making a few concessions to be a truly great holiday rental.

Fantastic villa with a great view. The pictures are very acurate. When it is windy it's not so nice to sit on the terrasse. A short path leads to Kastro, which we found to be the nicest village on Sifnos. The village has a bakery, minimarket and a couple of restaurants. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Christopher has been very helpful and very quick in his answers despite the fact that he lives so far from the house, in the USA. The person in charge, who lives in the village, is of the kindest sort. A very nice woman indeed, and very efficient. We were perfectly happy there. The house is very comfortable. The view splendid as described. One should know that it is very windy in case of wind.
