The Space

Three rooms available in local cooking school, 20 minutes by foot to the center of town. Private baths, three patios and wifi. The owner has a very reasonably priced cafe next door, perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner (closed Sundays).

The room choices are as follows:
queen with private patio--$48
2 twins--$40

Colonia San Antonio is a flat walk into town and offers neighborhood stores and restaurants, as well as colorful local ambiance. A bus stop, one block away, offers transportation to almost anywhere in town. Taxis are also easy to find at a reasonable rate.

Each room accommodates 2 people maximum. Unfortunately we do not offer roll away beds. There are three separate, lovely patios to enjoy, as well as two individually lovely cats. (please take note, if you have allergies.) Close to the Instituto Allende and a number of good, small restaurants, our quiet accommodations are an economical alternative to downtown.

Check In
  • We stayed three days at Kris' house in the Queen Room. It was absolutely beautiful! The room has plenty of light, if you open the windows you will feel the wind and birds singing. It was very spacious, with a private patio, magazines, a very traditional bathroom. Kris is an amazing hostess, she is very charming, kind and warm. We felt absolutely welcomed. I will recommend this place hands down even if it's a little too far from everything, you can take a cab which is very cheap and it's worth it. Staying at La Cocina you will experience the real San Miguel! :)

  • A great stay in a cooking school that has a cafe attached! Kris is a charming and fascinating lady, Alberto is wonderful, and the dinner I had at the cafe was one of the best meals in SMA.

    -Spacious & clean room
    -Drinking water provided

    Maybe a con/maybe not:
-This is about a 20 min walk from the center of town (The Jardin)

  • Kris is a wonderful host who has been living in San Miguel forever and therefore knows both the city and the neighbourhood (local Yoga Studios, Massage Centres etc.) VERY well.

Her cooking classes are attended by lovely participants (mostly American tourists and expats) and El Buene Cafe around the corner is super convenient for a Pancake breakfast. Additionally chef Eric cooks yummy dinners twice a weeks.

Everything is spotlessly clean and my favourite spot (the outdoor patios(s)) have power plugs, WIFI, sunshine and a great view of the city. Where better to do a quick spot of work (if you really have to).

I hope to see Kris in London, when she stops by on one of her European cooking tours!

Until then, - thanks for everything!

  • Chris is great hostess. Very pleasant personality. Room was very nice, quiet and the neighborhood was also. I liked the design of the room in particular, lots of light and on 2nd floor.

  • We loved it! Our room was upstairs, with a queen bed and private deck. It was spotlessly clean, with very good quality sheets and towels. La Cocina La Cocina is located in a relatively quiet neighborhood, quite a distance from the downtown shopping area, but it is a short taxi drive from the center of town. Kris was a wonderful hostess and we were lucky enough to take advantage of one of her cooking classes. A must, if you have the chance. The little café around the corner, Buen Café, was very good and we had breakfast there each morning. Lunches and dinners are also served. We will definitely go back.

  • We arrived late into San Miguel and were greeted warmly by Kris and her husband at their lovely casita. Our room was perfect. Cosy, colorful and clean, with lovely views out over the surrounding mountains. The B&B is located in San Antonio, which is a 15min walk outside San Miguel. The walk is easy and direct, straight up to the Instituto, and then on to the Jardin. We found this location to be fine, and it was quite nice being in a more local-feeling neighborhood (as opposed to being right in the heart of the centro). We didn't realise that the cooking school only operates from Tuesday-Friday, and given we were staying over a weekend, we therefore missed the opportunity to try we will just have to come back again!! Kris is a wonderful host, and this is a great place to stay.

  • Ambiance extraordinaire . . . recently built, the B&B authentically captures the feel of a 18th century residence. My room was spacious and comfortable with lots of light. Good location and great value, 10 minutes from Instituto Allende and a 20-25 min walk to "El Jardin," the city's main square.

  • A bnb with a restaurant attched. How good does it get?
Located on a quiet street (unless it is revolution day and the firewroks seem to happen all night all over town) and only a 10 minute walk to the center of San Miguel. Chris is a great host...a fountain of information and ideas on how to best see the area....

I have friends headed south in December and I will strongly recommend La Cocina to them....and I will stay there again when we return.....enjoy...g
