The Space

Enjoy the idyllic surroundings of the Snæfellsjökull National Park in a brand new luxury cottage, located only two hour drive away from Reykjavik. The spectacular nature at Snæfellsnes peninsula has often been referred to as the center of the earth and became world famous after Jules Verne described it in his book “A Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

The south facing cottage offers a viewing platform of Snæfell Glacier known for its beauty and mystical power in the background and the Atlantic Ocean in the foreground. The accommodation offers 100 square meters on two floors and can comfortably house up to 8 people. There are 3 separate bedrooms on the upper floor along with a sleeping sofa, located in the informal TV/DVD corner. The cottage also offers fully equipped kitchen (with dish washer) and dining facilities.

The setting offers a variety of things to do such as: beautiful hiking trails, whale watching, sailing around various islands, historical placed, bird watching, skiing and sightseeing on the glacier.

Check In
  • The house in Hellnar was immaculate! The surroundings are spectacular so that even sitting in the living room you can look at the incredible views. We had a great time at the house and exploring the area. Everything was very easy from check in, to all the supplies in the house, until check out!

  • The house is situated in a beautiful location, very close to the sea. It is very warm and comfortable furnishings. It is excellent for exploring the peninsula. We would not hesitate to stay there again, thank you Helga!

  • This is a fantastic house that was perfect for the 4 of us staying on the peninsula for 3 nights. We received a little brochure after booking with helpful tips on where to buy food/alcohol, things to see in the area, and a little bit of history of the town. One of our favourite places in Iceland!

  • The house is great and Hellnar a wonderful place to visit. We were unfortunate enough to arrive on a day when the staff at Hotel Hellnar, which is supposed to take care of the linen and towels, had not done its job. It got sorted out.
We got all additional help we needed at Kaffi Primus. The host there is a fantastic lady, not only fun but also a very good cook and baker.

    Sæl Anna.

Mér þykir leiðinlegt að það hafi ekki allt verið til staðar þarna eins og það átti að vera. Ég mun tala við Hotel Hellnar og fá útskýringu á þessu. Takk kærlega fyrir að láta mig vita af þessu.

    Kær kveðja,

  • This is a lovely house in a fantastic location. Lots of things to walk/drive to in fairly close range, and would definitely recommend the cafe down near the cave. Everything in the house was really clean and it was well-stocked in terms of kitchenware. I would say that "sleeping eight comfortably" is a bit of a stretch, as the would feel crowded with that many people and that's a lot of people sharing one fairly small bathroom. Also, the steep stairs may be a problem for older guests. But otherwise we really enjoyed being there.

  • We stayed 1 week at Hellnar. Great for hiking and exploring. Saw an arctic fox come close to the house. While walking along the beach west of the cave, saw 3 orcas. The house is in great condition, just as advertised. Very bright inside, all appliances are of the highest quality, took us some time to figure out how to work the stove (hi-tech).

  • My wife and I (and our family members) rented two properties in Hellnar from Hildur, and they were both great. Hildur was very easy to communicate with and sent me a whole bunch of info about the rentals a month or so before the trip so we knew what to expect and could easily let ourselves in. Hellnar itself is a spectacular place close to coffee shops and a fantastic restaurant at the Hotel Hellnar. The area is great for walking and hiking around, cose to the ocean and lava fields and the Snaefellsjokull volcano/glacier. My only compaint is that there is no internet in the rental suite, which we were surprised about, but aparently it is hard to get internet in that area. Overall we were very pleased and would love to stay here again on our next visit to Iceland.

  • This house was a perfect retreat at the end of a day exploring the peninsula. The minimum stay was 3 nights, but we could have easily explored the peninsula for weeks. Great fish soup and coffee nearby.

My name is Hildur and I am 27 years old from Iceland. I live in Reykjavík city. My father and his friend own the houses in Hellnar, Snæfellsnes and I have been renting the houses out for them. I have stayed there quite often and I love it there, so beautiful landscape, peace and quite.
