For the third year in a row, the readers of Conde Nast's Traveler magazine have honored Charleston with the "Top Travel Destination in the US rating." Come see why this fantastic City, where history lives, is so recognized and honored with the continuous endorsement of our visitors.
My home, Silver Wing, was built in 1885 and has been showcased on the Historic Preservation Society's Annual Fall Radcliffeborough Historic Homes tour. The configuration is architecturally known as a ‘Charleston Single Home,' and is located in this Upper King Street residential neighborhood.
The private suite offers a bedroom with an antique double bed, and has its own private bathroom and sitting room (reference photos as attached). It also offers access to the upper level porch with outdoor seating. Entrance is through the home's front door with a private staircase leading directly to your suite. Included in the nightly fee is off-the-street (driveway) parking. The location provides the capability to walk to all downtown locations. Hip bars, restaurants, clubs, the Visitor's Center and the lively Saturday Morning Farmer's Market are all within a three block radius. No other fees apply. The City also offers a free trolley when you can pick-up two blocks away.
If you require assistance with restaurant recommendations and/or reservations, tickets for special expos or festivals, suggested itineraries which map to the duration of your stay and points of interest, etc., I am happy to assist.
Its important to note that the Zoning Office of The City of Charleston requires me to advertise this unit for a minimum 30-day rental time period. Please communicate your dates of interest when you respond with a profile of your traveling guests and/or questions through the "Contact Me" link. I'll respond quickly, and when we've decided on the finalized logistics, you can then click the "Book It" button.
A completely private suite, comprised of a bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and the upper floor porch.
I converse with my guests well in advance of their arrival to ensure the have guidance and recommendations for their upcoming visit. Upon their arrival, I provide a full array of tourist literature, to include walking maps, dining guides, weekly entertainment listings, etc. I also offer a historical overview of the City. During their stay, I interact as much as requested, while ensuring complete privacy.
Radcliffeborough is one of the historical neighborhoods of Charleston located just off of Upper King Street -- which has become the epicenter of the restaurant and bar scene. Although just two blocks from this district, my neighborhood is residential, safe and quiet.
Yes, the City of Charleston provides a free trolley which stops just 2 blocks from my front door.
Had a wonderful experience. Ellen was a terrific hostess. She was there when I needed her and provided great suggestions about what to see and do during my business stay. Unfortunately, I was visiting on business and didn't have much time really visit the city. The private suite is truly private with a beautiful sitting room, private bath, and bedroom. All in all a terrific stay! Thanks Ellen
Had a great stay at Ellen's place. Ive been to Charleston a couple times before, but this was the best trip so far. Ellen's place is in a great location. Its only 2 blocks off upper King St., which is where all the best restaurants, bars, music and action is happening. Even if you plan to venture further south to the more historic houses and the battery its only a 15-20 min walk. Her place was the perfect space for myself and my girlfriend. We saw Ellen when we checked in and didnt see her again till we checked out, which was perfect for us. No offense to Ellen because she was super nice and helpful on places to go eat and things to view, but we liked the privacy. We could just text her or call at anytime and she was very responsive. And..... there was always breakfast left out for us each day.
Favorite Places: Kudu for coffee (only a 5 min walk from Ellen's), Husk for dinner, Hominy Grill for breakfast, Pearlz for Oysters and Happy hour.
I loved every moment that I spent at Ellen's beautiful home! Ellen loves Charleston and shares her knowledge and spirit of the city along with great Southern hospitality. I was lucky enough to have sunny, warm days so enjoyed eating breakfast on the porch and just sitting in the sunshine. I look forward to spending more time in Charleston and would love to come back!
Ellen could not have been a better host! She thought of everything from guiding us to great spots known by the locals, delivering us a fantastic breakfast on a tray each morning to our private sitting room, to immediate answering of our Charleston questions and so much more. The layout of a private bedroom along with a private sitting room and then our own bathroom was a delight. We had a comsiderable portion of the house all to ourselves. We will definitley return to Ellen's.
Ellen has been a knowledgeable and very friendly host, enabling me to experience the gallery and art scene which I otherwise would have missed. Her property is located close to N king street, the vibrant to go place in the evening , yet in a quiet historical street.
We had a great time staying with Ellen! Her historic home is within walking distance of anything on the peninsula and close to Hominy Grill, 2 Borough Larder and other great restaurants. The suite was very private, with a bedroom, sitting room and bathroom to ourselves. Breakfast -- including sliced fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, muffins, and fresh coffee -- appeared on a tray in the sitting room every morning! Because of cold weather, we didn't get to use the lovely balcony sitting area until the last morning, but it's a wonderful perk. Plus, Ellen gave us great tips on restaurants, taxis, and house tours in the area. We highly recommend this place!
Ellen welcoming and initially generous with local information.
Breakfast was left on a basket tray in the AM. Great location and surroundings. She even helped us find a mechanic.
"Ellen was a terrific host. She was brimming with information about Charleston yet also very respectful of our privacy, mostly communicating with us by e-mail for details like the timing of the next day's breakfast. Wonderful rooms, including a very well-supplied bath. We enjoyed her hearty breakfasts decked out in lovely table linens in the comfort of our sitting room. Off-street parking a great boon. Just a super experience for our first booking with airbnb."
We had a great time, & a large part of it was where we stayed. Ellen greeted us, made us comfortable, & supplied us with plenty of local maps & information on where to go & what to do. Since it was Restaurant Week, we especially appreciated her ideas of restaurants to enjoy. Breakfast was always well supplied. Every morning, before we were very awake, Ellen had a tray waiting for us with bowls full of luscious fruit, homemade bread or muffins, containers of Greek yogurt, hard boiled eggs, & a large insulated carafe of fresh, flavorful coffee. The house was clean & very beautiful, wonderfully restored, filled with many arty items. We had the use of the top floor which included a very cozy bedroom, a full bathroom & a separate elegant sitting room where we had our breakfasts, as well as access to the long second floor piazza for our private use to sit outside to enjoy the view while relaxing & reading. The street is quiet, but only a minute or two walk to King Street which is busy with nice restaurants, cafes & different kinds of stores. It is near a college area, which adds a very positive energy to that part of town. We easily walked everywhere we wanted to go, including the historic parts of town. If needed, the city has a free trolley to get around, as well as pedi-cabs & inexpensive taxis. Everyone was pleasant & polite, & we always felt very safe. Needless to say, we had a great time.
We had an amazing time in Charleston and despite the somewhat chilly & rainy weather, the trip would not have been as memorable hadn't not been for Ellen's wonderful place & hospitality :) The room, attached sitting room and access to the porch were exactly the right amount, not too big and not too small. And I can't rave enough about the breakfast that Ellen served each morning, it made the stay feel quite luxurious. I would recommend Ellen's place to any friends & family and would stay there again in a heartbeat.
