We love Ubud! Please feel free to ask us about any tips and things to do around the area. It's a special place and there is something for everyone.
My Partner & I had a great time in Ubud. The Onion was very Central, only a 10min. walk to the Yoga Barn. If you like it quiet, this is not the right place. They have a cute little stage with live music every night from 9-11pm. Tuesday & Wednesdays is Open mic. The staff was friendly & if you needed any help they would always do their best to organise it. The room was very spacious. We stayed for 1 month and were very happy there. The sun chairs were a bit run down. The rooms got cleaned every day though, with fresh towls, which was great! All in all, for what you pay, we were very happy there & satisfied. Thank you Onion collective!! We will come again :)
Communication before our visit was fine and the host seemed nice, though I'm not sure if I ever met him in person.
The experience overall was very very very disappointing though.
We left The Onion Collective 3 or 4 days before we were set to, even though we had already paid. The lack of attention to detail, distinct lack of cleanliness and eventual lack of politeness from some staff had reached its peak after 5 days.
I arrived in the evening, though initially the staff directed me to another place close by as they didn't seem to understand that I had booked a room at Onion. That first night had people in the bar area making lots of noise, chatting and playing music until 3am! So incredibly inconsiderate after an 18 hour long-haul flight!
We are young, fit and like to go out in the evenings, but sometimes there was just pointless amounts of noise, like yelping, until quite late. There was probably quite a young crowd here most of the time.
The staff were initially polite and pleasant, though they forgot to clean the room before we got there (so we possibly slept in dirty sheets- they certainly smelt and looked that way) on the first night. This was the vein that continued- the room was not cleaned at all (only the bed was remade) and the sheets only got changed once I asked them to be. On changing the sheets they left them in a pile on the floor in the room for over a day, and only took them away once I put them outside the room. This possibly flagged up their slapdash attitude and following that they became cold and impolite.
The restaurant food was adequate but drinks (hot or cold) were appallingly bad.
They have 'amusing' disclaimers about not trying to be a restaurant and perhaps not a hotel. These are accurate and the whole affair seems quite half-hearted.
If you're in Ubud on a shoestring and really need somewhere for very few nights, this may be for you, otherwise I would not recommend it.
Thank you for everything Kadek! We had a wonderful time.
The host were friendly and helpful.
The location is perfect. Close to everything in town. Only 5 min walk to the Yogabarn and Aram cafe, 10 min walk to supermarket and convenience store.
The room was quiet and clean. The restaurant on site was nice and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun. Every night we listened to live music.
Excellent internet connection.
The Lotus Room welcomed me with open arms after staying a week in the Ubud jungle. The bed was very comfortable with a cozy mosquito net. The bathroom is large and the shower pressure is excellent. There is a little porch for drying clothes and striking a few yoga poses. The owners were very friendly and helpful with any small room requests. I'd definitely stay at The Onion again when I return to Ubud!
Amazing place, amazing people and amazing location. Absolutely wonderful. Mark and the entire team were awesome!
I first visited the Onion 18 months ago & knew I would be back again. It it a special place which offers so much more than just a place to lay your head.
The owner Mark is a very warm person who injects that energy into the place. Staff are friendly and attentive and the food is awesome!
There is always something going (email hidden)/restaurant out front and it attracts all kinds of great artsy people who perform for fun. Perfect for solo travellers since you will surely meet some people to chat with.
The rooms are clean and spacious and the Onion is located a couple of mins walk from Yoga Barn, which is why I first chose to stay.
I've spent six weeks at the Onion and was incredible. Since I arrive Ubud Mark treated me as one more of the "tribe", recommended me a lot of places to go and helped me with everything I need, always helpful and nice with everybody.
The room I've stayed (the Lotus Room) is big enough, big bed, super cook air conditioning, huge bathroom and always clean.
There also a restaurant with nice meals (noodles, gyozas, delicious hamburgers) and a LOT of drinks and cocktails that you shouldn't miss.
Definately, even if you are a solo traveler or not, the Onion is a magical place to meet people, know more about Ubud and Bali and enjoy a truly experience. 10/10.
Thanks Mark :)
