About this listing
This is a very characteristic "Tuscan Studio" with kitchen, bathroom, queen canopy bed and sofa bed, all in a very large and charming room with fireplace.
I have many memories here: once it was my great-grandfather's and then grandfather's workshop (or, as we say in Italy, "bottega"). They were woodworker/carpenters and I have many memories of me as a child, playing in there with pieces of wood. Obviously, it didn't look like this originally, but my "nonno" begun the renovation 24 years ago, and we finished it only recently. I so wish he could see what we've done with his "bottega" now!
Cooking Classes with my mom (Vanna) who will teach you how to cook proper Tuscan dishes. The "problem" might be the language, but she's improving her English and you'll be able to actually see the preparation with your eyes, so it shouldn't be hard! :-) At the end you will have a nice meal together, enjoying the food you prepared during your cooking class. I can guarantee you, this will be one of the best experiences you will have about Italian food!
Horse Back Riding in a beautiful scenary right in front of Lake Trasimeno, only 20 mins away.
Art Classes with an awesome local Tuscan painter.
Free WIFI available!
Built on a hill, this stone town house is right outside the old city walls (dating from the 2nd century B.C.) of Historical Centre of Cortona, an old city founded by The Etruscans, the ancient civilization that built Rome. Cortona is conveniently located in a 1,15 hrs drive from Florence, 2 hrs from Rome and Pisa International Airports, 30 mins from Perugia (in Umbria) and Arezzo, 45 mins from Siena, 35 mins from Montepulciano, 1hr from Assisi (Umbria) e Montalcino (where the famous 'Brunello' wine comes from)...all the best sights of the famous Tuscan countryside, with yellow sunflower fields in the summer and multi colored trees in the spring!
The closest airports are Florence (1hr 23min), Pisa (2hr 04min) and Rome (2hr 14min).
The closest train station is Cortona-Camucia (3,3 km - 6 mins by car) and I suggest you take a taxi to get to Cortona, even though there are buses too.
However, if you're able to let us know your ETA, my mom might even come to pick you up at the train station.
You don't need a car if you only want to stay in Cortona, and even if you'd like to visit surrounding cities such as Siena, Perugia, Arezzo, Firenze (Florence) etc you can just use trains or buses.
However, if you desire to rent a car, the parking is on the street in about 50/100 meters (55/109 yards) from the house, depending on where you find a spot and it's free. There's also another big parking lot right nearby, more or less the same distance.
You're in the near proximity of the centre and of all the restaurants and food stores you can find in Cortona, like 5-7 mins walking distance.
Other Things to Note
Cortona is famous as the inspiration and setting for the book Under the Tuscan Sun, (that later became a movie) written by USA writer-novelist Francis Mayes. It also homes a branch of the Georgia University - USA, for artistic matters, since 1970.
Minimum stay 4 nights.
We expect you'll treat our apartment as if it was yours, with maximum respect and care. We put lots of love to make it comfortable, clean and nice for you and we expect you to leave it as you found it. Thank you very much, we appreciate that. :-)
Please, when you get out the house, remember to turn off lights. Electricity in Italy is quite expensive, so we would appreciate your thoughtfulness on this matter. :-)
