Our comfortable two-story chalet with its large exposed beam ceilings and large brick fireplace is modern, but still has the charm and cozy feeling of a cabin. Centrally located close to skiing, boating, hiking, biking, casinos and great restaurants.
The inspiration for the name "Little House in the Big Woods" was a children's novel by Laura Ingalls Wilder published in 1932. The book was based on memories of Wilder's early childhood in the Big Woods near Pepin, Wisconsin, in the late 19th century.
The children of a frequent guest gave our home this name and we liked it so much that we adopted it as our own.
Our "Little House in the Big Woods" has three full bedrooms:Room #1-King Bed (upstairs),Room #2-Queen Bed (downstairs), Room #3 Two Bunk Beds(upstairs) plus a large walk-in closet upstairs that has been converted into an extra sleeping space "Woody's Den," a favorite among our Jr. guests. It has a full size bed with a slanted roof and no windows. Not ideal for adults.
There is a phone upstairs and downstairs free local calling. A calling card or 800 number is required for long distance access.
House is fully furnished. Kitchen is updated with gas stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and all necessary cooking utensils and dishes.

We loved the house. It was exactly as represented and very clean.
The location is great, and we had a wonderful time!
Debbie was pretty helpful and straightforward. Read the description carefully for the one of bed is in a closet converted den and there will be a city tax collected additional to the rental cost. The house is pretty neat and clean overall. The neighborhood is also quiet. Overall I like it.
Hi Jian, I am sorry to hear that you sounded surprised and maybe disappointed about Woody's Den. We try to be upfront in our listing, which is why we list this as as a three bedroom house, even though we also have a double bed in this converted walk-in closet as a fourth sleeping space. I also make sure that my guests know about the city taxes, even though they are noted in my listing, before the booking is finalized. If you did not understand this, I apologize. All hosts who advertise vacation rentals in SLT are required to charge the city tax. The reason I don't include this in the airbnb quoted rate is because then you would end up paying an airbnb fee on the taxes too. It saves us both money if you pay the taxes directly to me. I hope you will book with us again in the future. Debbie
It was an absolute pleasure renting "Little House in the Big Woods" from Debbie for a recent ski weekend at South Lake Tahoe. She responds quickly to communications and made the overall process extremely smooth and worry-free, giving me a warm welcome to both Airbnb (my first rental) and her cozy lodge. The listing was dead-on accurate and the location is absolutely stellar - close to grocery markets, restaurants, drug stores, and the main attractions (Heavenly, Lake Tahoe). If you're looking for an affordable place to accommodate family and friends for a weekend in SLT, look no further!
We had a great time staying at Debbie's house. The place was super comfortable and very accommodating. It was really easy to get to the house, and the house's decoration is cute and with lots of bears. The only problem was regarding the dishwasher, she asked to return all items after the cycle to their proper places before leaving, even though we payed cleaning fee.
We definitely recommend staying there!
I understand your issue with having to empty the dishwasher. I use to feel that way too, but I have stayed at other places and have found the request for guests to wash their dishes and empty the dishwasher is pretty standard. I am a little surprised by your comment though since my caretaker honored your special request for a 6pm checkout without any additional charges.
Wonderful place! My family and I felt like at home. This was my first time booking through airbnb and I couldn't be any happier. Debbie made the entire process easy and convenient.
Thank you so much Debbie for the awesome experience!
Debbie was a wonderful, accommodating host! The cabin is beautiful, just as described, and in a perfect location close to groceries and the main road through town -- but wonderfully quiet in the cabin itself. I would highly recommend staying here!
This was my first AirBnB experience, and I must confess that it was a great one. Debbie was a very accommodating and responsive host. Despite showing up at midnight, with a wrong code to get the house key (typo on the supplied Home Operating Instructions), Debbie still picked up her phone and got us in.
The neighborhood is quiet, inviting and very close to many things. It is central to South Lake Tahoe making restaurants, shopping, skiing and playing all very close by. We could NOT have asked for a better location!
The house itself was extremely cozy and well stocked (except for the toilet paper...). We home cooked our meals the entire trip and there wasn't a thing missing in the kitchen. Debbie even maintains a massive stock of good firewood: a must for any winter Tahoe trip!
Next time my family goes back to Tahoe, we will be strongly considering renting with Debbie again: great price, great location, helpful host, and just the right size house!
Lifetime resident of California. Raised in Mill Valley and now living with my husband and our teenage daughter in Los Gatos. Our two sons are away at college. We have great family memories of our many visits to my parent's tahoe chalet. Now that we aren't able to go as often, we would like to share it with other airbnb guests. I hope you enjoy our Chalet as much as we do.
