★ Experienced hosts with over 165 positive reviews! Our other property is in San Francisco's Mission District! In fact, our home has been featured on the front page of Airbnb's Mission Guide, as were Ryan and I! We're freaking famous, y'all! (see pics).
For starters, your new house is a gorgeous daylight ranch, located directly at the base of beautiful Mount Tabor, which is like being located on your own personal mountaintop! Seriously, you can walk out the door, across the street and begin your hike into one of Portland's most amazing attractions! Fancy some tennis? NO PROBLEM! Want to go for a run? MILES OF TRAILS AWAIT YOU! Feel like taking a jaunt through a community garden? MOUNT TABOR HAS ONE OF THE BEST! Hike, bike, run, walk or skateboard through Mount Tabor, and revel in our dormant volcano in the middle of a city. Did I mention there's a community pizza oven?
Next, your new house has two brand new, 4" pillow-top, spa-like king beds in it. That means you can roll around and KARATE KICK without ever disturbing your partner! I'm serious! These beds will HELP YOUR RELATIONSHIP! In fact, if you check out our San Francisco listing, you will notice how often the king beds are mentioned, and we outfitted this house with the exact same beds! You're going to sleep better here than you will at your OWN HOME!
And have we discussed how we just replaced the plumbing and electrical in the entire home, too! Your new house has the best water in the city!
Oh, and you have your own yard with a small, almost dead garden (I'm a terrible gardener). Invite your friends over to mock my gardening skills and throw an impromptu patio party!
But what really sets your new house apart? Just look at the pictures. We have seriously worked our asses off to give you a one-of-a-kind experience while in Portland, and the house shows that. From the original art to the hand painted faux taxidermy to the stocked Kuerig to the hand towels, we have thought of everything. Since we've been hosts in SF for so long, we know with trial and error what guests are looking for, and we've made sure to incorporate all of that in this house, too.
You're going to love your stay, Future Rock Star Guests!
Our amazing guests have access to a full, 1400sf house, as well as the private patio, garden and yard.
We live in the top house, but have a completely private entrance and, unless our guests want to meet us, we stay completely out of our guest's hair. You will never see us unless you want to! Recently we went out to brunch with one of our guests, and are always happy to show you around, so if you want to hang out, let's do it!
Your new house is located just five blocks from the Montavilla corridor, which is home to some of the best food, coffee and drinks in the city! Oh, and they just added a community yoga studio, with drop-in prices of just $10. And did I mention there's an award-winning, recently-renovated, art deco theater that SERVES SUSHI AND ALCOHOL? Oh, and it has DAYCARE! Yeah, you can drop off the little ones and have some much-needed adult time, complete with adult beverage. LIFE IS GOOD!!
Not feeling like a movie? We get that! Then head over to the Country Cat for the best chicken fried steak in the world, or to The Observatory for their famous cheese plate and kale salad! Oh, and while at the Observatory, make sure to check out their SECRET BAR and order their THAI TOM KAH drink! If you're brave enough, that is. That sh*t is SPICY!
Afterward, take a stroll down Stark street and check out all the vintage clothing/furniture stores, or grab a dessert at Pastry Girl. Don't worry, VACATION CALORIES DON'T COUNT!
What's that you say? You want to see Voodoo Doughnut and Powell Books? NO PROBLEM! Your new house is located one block from the bus that'll have you exploring downtown in less than fifteen minutes! Plus, the bus goes straight down Burnside, which is perfect for shopping, eating and exploring, too! Oh, and if you want to see a show at the Doug Fir, just let me know - I have AWESOME CONNECTIONS WHO ARE HELPFUL AND STUFF!
The main bus line is a block away and runs constantly through the day and night. Also, there's an app with which to buy your bus pass - no need to have exact change!
We have two dogs who aren't allowed in the guest area, but if you're HIGHLY allergic, this might not be the space for you.
Everything, from the coffee to the parking to the laundry unit, we want you to feel that this is your home away from home.
Interaction with Guests
That's up to you! We love having brunch with our guests or to share a cup of java. But if you'd rather not see us, no problem. We can stay completely out of your hair or be your next best friends - you hold all the cards.
Montavilla is one of Portland's trendy neighborhoods, and is known for its burgeoning foodie & cocktail scene! Our personal favorites are:
The Observatory. You must have the cheese plate, fry bread, Tom Ka cocktail (best I've ever had), kale salad with shrimp and the lamb burger with goat cheese!
The Country Cat. Definitely check out the chicken fried steak and the meatloaf! And don't forget your mimosa!
Vintage Cocktail Lounge. Best hand-crafted cocktails in Montavilla. The service is slow, but it's worth the wait. Get whatever the bartender suggests!
Tanuki: Do NOT leave Portland without trying the squid jerky and omakasa! She closes without warning and won't allow parties larger than three (and she plays B-level Korean zombie gore-films to freak weary people out), but this is one of Portland's true gems. No kids allowed. Extensive sake menu.
Academy Theater: Yes, you can get a ticket to a movie, a beer and a hot dog for $10. Don't forget that Tuesdays are two-for-Tuesdays: bring a friend and get two tickets for $4!
Roscoes: Awesome local beer selection and late night noshes. Try their kobe burger and their fried green tomato caprese salad! Pair it with a Deschutes Brewery Mirror Pond Pale and drink like a local!
Yoga Refuge: Need some time to yourself on your vacation? Yoga refuge offers drop-in classes at awesome prices! And if you book a class online, make sure to use our discount code "AIRBNB" at checkout for 10% off!
Modern Man: Like a little whiskey with your haircut? This is a fantastic local barbershop known for their expertise in beards and facial hair, and their complimentary whiskey shots!
There's so much more on Stark Street, and more coming every day. Explore!
LOCAL TIP: 82nd street is known as a "shadier" part of Portland, but much like Market street in SF, the city is working to clean it up. Why do I mention this? Because it's also the 'real' Chinatown of PDX. Craving Pho? Go to Pho Van. Need Bahn Mi? There's a drive through on Powell and 82nd called Best Baguette. Hung over and in dire need of Chinese Food? The best in the city is out here. Feeling like a massage? There's a weird hole-in-the-wall at Fubonn Place that has 60 minute massages for $20. It's no frills, and there's a major language barrier, but it's legit (bring $10 for a tip).
DRIVE TIMES TO LOCAL DESTINATIONS:
Downtown: 10 minutes
Portland Airport: 15 minutes
Multnomah Falls: 25 minutes
Bridge of the Gods: 35 minutes
Wine Country: 45 minutes
Mount Hood: 60 minutes
Oregon Coast: 90 minutes
There's a few options:
Ample parking at the house.
The bus line to downtown is 1 block away. It's a 15-minute bus ride or a 10-minute drive to downtown.
The Max is on 60th and Glisan.
Uber or Curb. They're phone taxi apps.
Multiple car-shares readily available. Our favorite is Car2go. Download the app and find your ride!
Other Things to Note
We will send check-in instructions to your email with the address and PIN code for the door - please keep an eye out for an email titled Check-In Instructions. These are sent on the 1st of your vacation month - please let us know if you haven't seen them!
* Due to back-to-back guests, I'm sorry, but we can not accommodate early check-ins. It takes an incredible amount of time to clean the house between guests, so please understand that, in order for it to be clean for you, we have to stick to our times! We have a comprehensive guidebook on Airbnb with all sorts of fun stuff in the neighborhood!
* Please consume or take all leftover food. The city of Portland only picks up trash every other week, and food beckons little critters and bugs!
* PLEASE turn off all temperature controls and lights as you leave.
*No need to do anything extra - this is your vacation! But if you want to be the kindest people on earth, stripping your bed and starting a load of sheets always makes my cleaners super happy.
* Please be kind. We've had guests who weren't - please treat our home kindly so we can continue offering it to others!
* Out of respect for our lovely neighbors, please quiet down on the patio by 9:00pm!
* The recycling is located under the sink. If you begin to develop too much trash, there are master cans in the carport at the front of the house - please feel free to use these! Black is garbage. Blue is recycling. Green is compost. Yellow is glass.
* Most of all, have fun and enjoy beautiful Portland, Oregon!
What can I say about Mel and Ry's gorgeous property? It's glamorously decorated, beautifully maintained, and located close enough to all of the neighborhood happenings we wanted to be part of, but far enough away to be surrounded by peace and quiet. I hope to stay there again when I visit Portland next!
This Airbnb house was awesome!! It was my first Airbnb stay and I was a little bit nervous. I sent lots of questions to Mel, but Mel gave me really quick responses including nearby recommended restaurants and cool interior shops in Portland.
The house was totally as same as you could see in the photos.
I definitely recommend this house!
This was a great place to stay with another couple. Huge comfortable beds and an awesome living room to hang out in. We were within walking distance to amazing restaurants and swanky little bars and only about a 20 minute drive from downtown Portland and beautiful hiking spots. Also - if you have a car, parking is super easy because the house is in a beautiful neighborhood with plenty of street parking.
Mel and Ryan also have a really helpful guidebook in the house to direct you to awesome locals' spots.
We definitely recommend staying here and wish we didn't have to leave so soon!!
SUPER cool place. Very convenient SE Portland location. Easy access separate entrance and parking. Wish we could've stay longer.
Why would I want to stay anywhere else if I can lounge at the Atomic Ranch in Mt Tabor when visiting Portland? Despite my phone not cooperating with AirBnB, Mel and Ry were awesome with promptness and communications.
It looks just like the pictures and is impressively designed with so many interesting corners to relax with fun relics from past decades and modern art/touches. It was clean/pristine and the amenities are totally up-to-date. I appreciated the Keurig coffee, Soda Stream, and the fridge was stocked with a few extras!
As a former local, I just loved the parking convenience, location to Mt Tabor park, nearby Hawthorne, Sandy, and of course downtown. And, I finally got to have my all time favorite pizza from a place on Stark nearby.
I am sure this is the best airbnb in Portland!
I was thrilled with my experience. Mel and Ry were excellent communicators and the entire booking process was a snap. The Space is exactly as pictured. Very clever design, well outfitted, and comfortable in every way. The entrance is private so you really never see any other neighbors. The neighborhood is excellent. It's walkable, quiet and provides quick access to all areas of Portland. On this visit I really didn't have a lot of time in the space to use it as a home, though I can see how well suited it is to living, cooking, and entertaining. I would absolutely stay there again on a future trip to the area and I would recommend it to anyone considering places to stay in the rose city.
Mel and Ryan were very helpful and accommodating (especially when I misplaced the check-in instructions at the beginning of our stay). The place was awesome and just as described/pictured. The beds were very comfortable- like "sleeping on a cloud". They also had a pack and play for our toddler, a Soda Stream and a Keurig. We had a fabulous time on our first AirBnB experience. Thank you.

Ryan and I are awesome. Can I say that? No, we truly are. Most people like him a bit more than me, but only because he can drink more than I can and says things like "Let's get AWESOME!" and "Who's having SHOTS WITH ME!?".
While we used to host in rooms in our houses, we now are able to offer three full houses - one in San Francisco, and two in Portland - for your traveling pleasure. We take great liberties to make sure our homes are more comfortable than any hotel will ever be, focusing on Temperpedic beds, fully-stocked kitchens, local artwork, outdoor areas and fluffy bath linens. We have been doing this for a while now, and have a grip on what our guests are looking for: luxury while still being local. Our reviews speak for themselves - read them and feel confident in your decision to stay with us!
