About this listing
Compact 'tiny house' space (under 200 sqft). Cottage located in a private garden healing sanctuary. Spacious retreat for 1 person; tiny for two. Clean, modern, comfortable, with kitchenette. Easy 4-block walk to Ashland Plaza. Lovely environment.
Arbor Studio is a compact, tidy single building just right as a retreat space for one person; serviceable, but possibly too intimate for two people.
This 'tiny house' is nestled under a grandmother grapevine and looks out into our beautiful & wildly arrayed healing garden, a sanctuary filled with flowers & herbs.
Expect friendly atmosphere, intelligent use of space, interior cleanliness, bamboo floors, interesting lighting, filtered drinking water, a moderately equipped kitchenette (toaster oven, micro, electric kettle & frying pan, 4 each dishes, cups, etc.).
You can enjoy your snacks perched on a stool at the kitchenette counter while gazing past the ancient grapevine arbor out into our Healing Garden. There's also a old-fashioned barrel reading chair with a garden view.
Arbor Studio sports a comfy sofabed, top-quality futon from Ikea, that easily is a couch or a bed. For extra comfort, we've topped the mattress with a sheepskin and covered that in a thick cotton then 400 thread count white cotton sheets.
Arbor Studio feels isolated from the outside world, but Interior privacy is absent as the fiberglass shower opens into the main room and the toilet has a curtain rather than a door.
The well insulated space is heated with a portable radiator-type device, ceiling fan for air circulation, and a new window air conditioner.
Entry to Arbor Studio is via the Garden Gate into the back yard. The ground in the back garden can be uneven and the bark-covered walkway dark, especially at night. We have solar lights but we encourage you to carry a flashlight.
Parking is in our 3-vehicle driveway or safely at curbside.
Please be aware that we love dogs, but cannot accept your canine companion as a guest.
Arbor Studio at Chakra Garden is located 4 blocks north of Downtown Plaza, the heart of Ashland. From this hub, everything you need for entertainment, dining, and shopping is around you, including Lithia Park and Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Arbor Studio is almost across the street from a south-bound Ashland/Medford bus stop and a block north of Ashland's Youth Hostel & a handy Minute Mart.
Ashland's Natural Food Coop is a beautiful 5-block neighborhood stroll through the historic Skidmore Academy District. Food options are nearby: the Breadboard Restaurant for breakfast/lunch and Big Al's Diner for lunch/diner are 2 & 1 block north, and we've a Minute Market 1 block south.
Arbor Studio at Chakra Garden is also just 2-blocks up the street from the Kagyu Sukha Choling Center for the Practice of Tibetan Buddhism, 3-blocks from Ashland Institute of Massage Therapy (AIM), and 4-blocks from the United Bicycle Institute.

Enter through the garden gate to find Arbor Studio. Our gardens are spacious and in development as a healing sanctuary based on the Chakra System. We invite you to enjoy the environment and amenities. Practice yoga (etc) on the lawn area behind the main house; enjoy the deck with gas bar-b-que; rest in the king size hammock, eat breakfast at the garden table with umbrella, make a small fire in the pit in the evening (please use screen and common sense), play a game of ping pong table. And also know that downtown Ashland, with beautiful Lithia Park, is only 4-blocks south.
Interaction with Guests
You might meet us in the backyard but our desire is for you to find as much privacy as you desire. You might choose to attend one of our classes or schedule a therpeutic appointment. We are yogis and body-mind healers. Dr. Zeb is a counselor and Rolfer; Candace an embodiment guide and Tantra educator. We provide private sessions, group classes, and healing retreats. We invite you to schedule therapeutic bodywork or a healing appointment with Dr. Zeb or an energy tune-up meditation with Candace to enhance your visit. Find more information at our Chakra Garden of Ashland website.
We purchased the Chakra Garden property because of its versatility, history, and close location to downtown Ashland. The main house is a vintage 2-story (1884 – the Payne-Penter House) signature building as one nears Ashland's downtown plaza, distinguished by the upstairs stained-glass window. There were two older out-buildings (“Temple House" and “Lhasa House") that we changed from empty shells to havens of modern comfort. We dreamed of turning the large, empty back yard into a garden sanctuary for healing body, mind and spirit and that is an on-going project you are welcome to enjoy during your visit. We added three small buildings to our land in 2013, and Arbor Studio is one of these (the other two are storage & workshop spaces). You'll discover all the fittings and furnishings in Arbor Studio are clean & new.
The neighborhood is lovely and offers many quiet shady streets as alternative avenues for your stroll into town.
It's an easy 4-block walk to Ashland's central Plaza, the city's "hub." Lithia Park and Oregon Shakespeare Festival are right there. There's a variety of walking routes into town. A stop for the southbound Medford/Ashland bus is around the corner and across the street. We have a pair of old bikes that might be available for you to borrow. We offer ample parking for your car.
Other Things to Note
The space is very cozy and there is little interior privacy inside. There is no central heat and air; instead, we have an excellent space heater, a new window air conditioner, and a ceiling fan.
There are several cottages available as guest accommodations on the property. Please be respectful of others' privacy. Often, guests are in the garden as a healing sanctuary. Also, please only use one driveway parking space at a time; if you have visitors or arrive with two cars, there are 5 safe parking spaces along the curb on Hersey. No smoking inside the building; you may smoke in the gardens if you manage your residue and fire reasonably, although we prefer not tobacco.
