Compact Studio space (under 200 sq ft). Separate building located in private garden healing sanctuary. Just right for 1 person; not good for two. IKEA sofabed futon converts easily; fiberglass shower opens into main living area. Lovely environment.
Arbor Studio is a compact, tidy single building just right for one person, no longer offered for two. It's nestled under a grandmother grapevine and looks out into our in-process healing garden.
Expect friendly atmosphere, interior cleanliness, bamboo floors, interesting lighting, filtered drinking water, a moderately equipped kitchenette (toaster oven, micro, electric kettle, 4 each dishes, cups, etc.).
Arbor Studio sports a comfy sofabed, top-quality futon, from Ikea that easily is a couch or a bed. You'll enjoy your snacks while perched on a stool at the kitchenette counter while gazing past the ancient grapevine arbor out into our Healing Garden. There's also a old-fashioned barrel reading chair with a garden view.
The shower is completely open into the main room and the toilet has a curtain rather than a door. The tiny, well insulated space is heated with a portable radiator-type device, ceiling fan for air circulation, and a window-type air conditioner.
Entry to Arbor Studio is via the Garden Gate into the back yard and along uneven paths covered in bark chip. Parking is in a designated driveway space or safely at curbside.
Chakra Garden of Ashland is fully licensed by City of Ashland to offer traveler lodging.

Arbor Studio is almost across the street from a south-bound Ashland/Medford bus stop and a block north of Ashland’s Youth Hostel.
Ashland’s Natural Food Coop is a beautiful 5-block neighborhood stroll through the historic Skidmore Academy District. Food options are nearby: the Breadboard Restaurant for breakfast/lunch and Big Al’s Diner for lunch/diner are 2 & 1 block north, and we’ve a Minute Market 1 block south.

Enter through the garden gate to find Arbor Studio. Our gardens are spacious and in development as a healing sanctuary based on the Chakra System. We invite you to enjoy the environment. And also know that downtown Ashland, with beautiful Lithia Park, is only 4-blocks south.
Interaction with Guests
You might meet us in the backyard but our desire is for you to find as much privacy as you desire. Or you might choose to attend one of our classes or schedule an appointment. We are yogis and body-mind healers. Dr. Zeb is a counselor and Rolfer; Candace an embodiment guide and Tantra educator. We provide private sessions, group classes, and healing retreats. Throughout the summer of 2014, our Monday and Wednesday 5:15-6:30pm meditation classes are open to everyone ($10 donation – arrive a few minutes early). Consider scheduling therapeutic bodywork or a healing appointment with Dr. Zeb or an energy tune-up with Candace to enhance your visit. Find more information at our Chakra Garden of Ashland website.
We purchased the Chakra Garden property because of its versatility, history, and close location to downtown Ashland. The main house is a vintage 2-story (1884 – the Payne-Penter House) signature building as one nears Ashland’s downtown plaza, distinguished by the upstairs stained-glass window. There were two older out-buildings (“Temple House” and “Lhasa House”) that we changed from empty shells to havens of modern comfort. We dreamed of turning the large, empty back yard into a garden sanctuary for healing body, mind and spirit and that is an on-going project you are welcome to enjoy during your visit. We added three small buildings to our land in 2013, and Arbor Studio is one of these (the other two are storage spaces). You’ll discover all the fittings and furnishings in Arbor Studio are brand new.
A stop for the southbound Medford/Ashland bus is around the corner and across the street. We have a pair of old bikes that might be available for you to borrow. We offer ample parking for your car.
Other Things to Note
The space is very cozy and there is little interior privacy inside. There is no central heat and air; instead, we have an excellent space heater and a ceiling fan.
There are several cottages available as guest accommodations on the property. Please be respectful of others' privacy. Often, guests are in the garden as a healing sanctuary.
I just spent 3 nights at Chakra Garden, staying in the Arbor Studio. This tiny, one-room apartment is really sweet! The (also tiny!) kitchen was amazingly well-equipped with fridge, toaster oven, microwave, dishes and utensils. The little cottage is located in a lovely garden and is a 10 minute walk to the heart of Ashland. It was a really wonderful get-away!!
This was perfect! It was exactly what I needed for my stay in Ashland. I could walk to everything, the bed was comfortable and the room was cozy. Next time I'm in Ashland, I hope to stay here.
Candace was very responsive to my inquiry & very welcoming upon my arrival. The Cozy Garden Cottage was a perfect place to spend my birthday! Candace had written me very clear and easy directions to find the cottage & had everything all ready for me when i arrived. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Everything you could ever need was in the cottage and the kitchen area was very nice. It was a very peaceful experience and i would stay here next time i am in Ashland. Thank you for everything!
The description is quite accurate, though it is posted as the "Arbor Studio" when we arrived. It appears that it may have been vacant for some time before our stay and only a quick cleaning to prepare it for us.
It is in good walking distance of downtown and the festival. A minimart is only two blocks away which was convenient for picking up nick nacks on our way back from a late night dinner. Deer also roam this area and seem to be quite used to people walking on the sidewalks oblivious to their presence.
Overall it was a lovely stay and we will likely consider it the next time we are in ashland.
Thomas. I'd like to note that Arbor Studio ("Cozy Garden Cottage near Downtown) received our regular cleaning prior to your arrival. However, I personally did not go in to check the usually excellent work of our housekeeper as I was out-of-town for the day. That was obviously an error on my part. The space had been rented by a single guest for two weeks prior to your arrival and I apologize that the interior was not the usual spotless experience we anticipate for our guests. I'll definitely be more careful the next time.
Candace, the host, was very responsive and accommodating, responding to my emails in detail and quickly. I arrived and everything was setup and ready, I didn't have to worry about anything. Was great and so serene. The internet was fast too!
What I have loved about staying at Airbnb places is how I can arrive and depart without a lot of logistics. My stay with Candace was perfect and the studio cottage was just what I needed; simple, clean, and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and look forward to the completion of the garden which was a riot of happy flowers and bees and crickets. Thank you Candace!!
Candace and Jeb greeted me warmly and made me feel right at home. They have a lovely cottage located about 4 blocks away from the main square. We found this a very convenient location and would walk back and forth between the cottage and downtown area.
If you're looking for an affordable centrally located place to stay I would recommend Candace's cottage. Enjoy!

I live in So. Oregon. I have traveled throughout the Pacific Ocean on 35-ft sailboat. I lived in Europe for 6 years. I've practiced Yoga for 40 years. I guide embodied non-duality meditations (weekly classes & private sessions). I am a Tantra educator embracing Wise Woman Ways. I like to laugh. I love people's stories and am a good listener. I host guests & students at my healing sanctuary, Chakra Garden of Ashland (Oregon). We offer 3 private cottages that open into our evolving gardens. My partner in all aspects of the Ashland adventure is Dr. Zeb Lancaster, somatic counselor & sex therapist. We have written 3-books together, including BodyMind Boundaries for Beginners, plus we both guide individuals, couples, and groups towards somatic healing of body/heart/mind. Zeb spent much of his childhood living abroad. Your fulltime onsite Chakra Garden host, Zeb is fluent in Portuguese and French, plus can manage Spanish and Italian. I also host guests at my Homestead Woodland Cottage, southwest of Medford. Located at the beginnings of the Applegate Valley Watershed, in the Griffin Creek area between Ashland & Jacksonville, my not-in-Ashland time is spent at the Homestead with my beloved husband of 31+ years, Richard "RG" Guches. This 50 acres of woods bordering on BLM wildness was settled in the 1880s by RG's great grandparents.
