Interaction with Guests
We are offering this house for rent during times, in which we don't live there by ourselves as we divide our time between Berlin, Jakarta and Yogyakarta. This means, we will not be present during your stay.
Breakfast will be prepared by Parsiyem, who lives in the village and will also take care of the daily cleaning. There will be a friend of us on check in, who speaks fluent English. We do not arrange tours for guests, but we offer a mobile phone and contacts to tour offices, so you can arrange it by yourself.
For breakfast, you can choose among a variety of Western and Indonesian meals: bread and eggs, muesli, oatmeal, rice porridge, Nasi Goreng (fried rice). Every breakfast is served with tea or coffee and a selection of tropical fruits.
There is a laundry service based on your needs.
In the process of building the house, we have been very aware to balance between privacy and connectedness to our surrounding.
We decided to keep the living area open without walls towards the garden and rice fields. The big trees, alined along the house, offer a nice protection from wind and direct views into the house, while you can still witness the activities of the farmers around you.
Next to the house is another, small guesthouse (Rumah Gladak), which we occasionally offer for rent as well.
We also share the land with the father of the landowner, who is living at the back part of the land and is guarding our houses by day and night.
Our village and the surrounding villages are knows for its handicrafts. It is worth to explore this. There is the center of ceramic in Kasongan, there is a village for wood painting, and there is a village for stone carving and production. We can give you advise of where to go. We can also offer you to rent a mini train (with driver) for half day for a village tour, and Sukarman, our staff can introduce you to local crafts. This is a popular way in the villages to get around and good way to have easy access to the craft people without any intention of selling anything. Its fun!
In the wider area, you can make a tour to Borobodur (60 minutes), Prambanan (60 minutues), the beach of Java Sea with delicious fish restaurants and harbour (around 50 minutes).
From our land, you can directly start walking or jogging through the rice fields.
To explore the area further, we can offer you bicycles (25.000 rp/day), a motorbike (Scoopy) for rent (60.000 rp/day. We can also help you organize a driver with a car to make day trips. During high season, it is advisable to let us know before your arrival if you need a driver, since we can not guarantee to find a driver available.
Also, we suggest to manage for you the pick-up service from the airport or train station, as our drivers already know the location of the land so you are not bothered by searching for the land. (150.000 rp/per pick-up from airport, 100.000 rp/per pick up from train station).
Other Things to Note
We offer limited Internet through a Internet flashdisk, which means it might not be stable. If you are coming and need Internet for work, it might be risky since we can not guarantee that it is working.
We are situated in the middle of a traditional village life. The people in the village are very friendly and welcoming while respecting privacy.
Please be sensitive as well and respect their customs. Don't make loud parties, involving lots of alcohol. Please dress appropriately - our area is not strictly islamic and quiet open-minded. But still, there are customs of women not been dressed too exposed. Please be aware of this.
When making walks through the rice fields, a friendly smile and simple greeting is a nice gestures, while stepping through their farmlands.
As for house rules, we ask our guests to absolutely avoid open fire, as our house construction consists solely of wood. Smoking is allowed in the open areas, but please be cautious especially during dry season.
This place is absolutely amazing, a little piece of paradise! Beautiful house in a beautiful setting in the middle of the ricefields. Persyiem was very friendly and cooked us great breakfast and Katia was very helpful in arranging everything. I recommend it 100%, can't wait to come back. Thank you!
We stayed at the Joglo and loved it so much we extended our stay and moved into the small wooden house next to it for a few more days. Katia and Foazan have been easy going and helpful with the extension and it was no problem at all. They responded really quickly and took care of everything. Both places are located in a beautiful garden and the attention to detail really shows that a lot of thought and love must have gone into this place. The Joglo itself is a really cool open space that can be completely open to the nature. It has a big table and sitting area and we enjoyed having our breakfast and looking at the rice paddies every morning. If you like to stay somewhere a bit different to a usual apartment and like nature this is the perfect place to stay. That being said you need to be ok with the one or other gecko running around the house. However they never came into our bedroom. Also it is outside of Yogya(about 15-20drive) we never had a problem getting into the city and often used the driver recommended by Katia and Foazan. But it is something that needs a bit of organizing. While you are there Persyiem will take care of all your needs. She's very lovely and cooks delicious breakfast. If you like a smaller and more private place the small wooden house also rented by Katia and Foazan is a really nice alternative. We would come back anytime and recommend the place.
The experience was great, Mia and Katia where really helpful. Parisyem makes a really good breakfast every day.
I would recommend everybody who would like to experience the real indo live with a touch off luxury away from the busy city, but still close to all the sightseeing spots to stay at this place!
We had a fabulous time at the Joglo, which is very comfortable and has an amazing view on the rice paddies. Our hosts' hospitality was extremely generous and we always had everything we needed. Whether we needed a car with a driver, a motorcycle or a good recommendation for a local restaurant or a souvenir shop, they always suited our needs.
The Joglo is a great place for a couple, or even two. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Wow. This is a truly special place. We both travel quite a bit and agree that this is the most beautiful place we've ever stayed. The scenery, the people, the decor. Katia, I will be flying you to LA to be my interior decorator when the time comes haha! Peresyum is a wonderful cook and her smile lights up the room. Mia is very helpful (as is Katia), she helped us with directions and made everything very accessible. The scooter rental is a must, and a very easy way to get around the harrowing city streets. Yes, there are lots of animal sounds at night, but it's half the fun of living so far out of the city. Incredible frogs and geckos will sing you to sleep. The workers in the rice fields are extremely kind and encourage you to come see what they are doing. The back bedroom is a peaceful romantic oasis to the open aired stunning living quarters. Be aware, it's not very private. Because it is family run land there are people in and out of the main living area at all hours of the night and day. That being said, I would stay here a million times over. Well done Katia and Faozan, what a beautiful home you've created.
We spent 3 nights here and had a lovely experience. The housClose enough to Yogyakarta for sightseeing but far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. An airport pickup was arranged by the host - which went flawlessly. Mia was a very informative friendly resource that we were greeted by upon our arrival. Parsyem is the lady who made our breakfast and took care of our laundry service, aside from being exceptionally friendly her smile was contagious and radiant - her husband and daughter were beautiful and friendly as well. Each evening we sat and watched as dozens of ducks quacked their way home together along the path along the house, the workers walk home with their sheep and cows, and listened to the soft distant Muslim prayers amongst the fields surrounding the joglo.
Our driver for both days was a man named Eko. Eko is THE MAN he was perfect - friendly fluent in English and know the area ridiculously well. We loved him.
The home itself was gorgeous. Landscaped so well. Very spacious and open. The grounds were infiltrated with statues and small ponds. It was a peaceful paradise.
All in all one if our best experiences yet!
We had a wonderful stay at Katia's Joglo. The place is actually exactly what we want to build ourselves in Bali. The view is amazing at sunrise. Sunset walking out among the fields was beautiful as well as talking with the local farmers and fawning over some of their baby goats. Perfectly quiet and calming in the countryside, the location is maybe 15-20min to the center of Jogyakarta so it's not too far out. Katia also arranged a motorbike rental for us that was waiting when we arrived. The bed is top notch and latex for an amazing sleep. Plus points for Katia using the same natural soap and shampoo we use at home and actually providing it. I can't stand Airbnbs that don't even provide hand soap. Prob the best part of the stay was Parsiem the Pembantu that cooks organic breakfast made to order at whatever time you desire no matter how early. She has a beautiful smile and makes an organic breakfast that is an absolute wonderful start to the day. All the Airbnbs and hotels we have stayed at around the world have never been able to or cared to get this right. A very simple breakfast of quality organic ingredients says something about an owner that knows the most important things are in the details. One thing to note is that if you are honeymooners, it's not the best place for you to walk around naked since the property is on a family land.
Thank you for a wonderful AirBnB experience. This is what the app is all about.

About the Host, Katia And Faozan
We are a German-Indonesian couple, working in the field of film, dance and visual art and based in Berlin, Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Our third base, Yogyakarta, is the newest one. When we saw historical Javanese houses been more and more exported to Bali and Hawai, we decided to buy two houses and build them on a strip of land in a village outside of the city of Yogyakarta. First thought as a refugium for us, to escape the pollution of Jakarta. But since we are traveling a lot for our work and we don't like empty houses, we decided to offer our houses to guests, who want to get closer to Indonesian culture and nature.
