Interaction with Guests
While we enjoy meeting new people and talking about the restaurants and attractions of our area, we respect the privacy of our guests and will be available as needed without intrusion. Amy will be present to show you to your apartment and see that you are comfortably established.
There are a number of ethnic restaurants and unique shopping places in our neighborhood which won't come up in a web search, but which will delight your curiosity and tantalize your taste buds. Our neighborhood is a wonderful mix of cultures, resulting in numerous small ethnic eateries and one of a kind food stores. We have sidewalks throughout the neighborhood for walking your dog and getting exercise, and the local park is over 700 acres of woods, running trails, playground, and disc golf.
Bus stops are within easy walking distance from the apartment and can take you downtown, to Churchill Downs, or to UofL within minutes. ((website hidden)) With broad walking/running/cycling paths along Southern Parkway, travel by foot or bike is easy and safe. And close proximity to the airport, UofL, Churchill Downs, Cardinal Stadium, KY Kingdom and Expo Center means low cab fares!

We don't charge a cleaning fee and ask our guests to leave the apartment in the same condition it was in when they arrived.
We felt very welcome, with food and drink in the fridge and toiletries in the bath. It was much like staying with a friend.
Hawk's Eyrie was a fantastic home away from home for our stay in Louisville. Prior to arrival Amy was very helpful providing information and recommendations for our stay. Amy greeted us upon arrival and gave us a full tour of her beautiful, charming apartment. It provided ample space for our family of 5, and was stocked with everything we needed for our stay (think kitchen and bathroom supplies, movies for the kids, local maps and brochures, etc.). The homemade chocolate zucchini banana bread was a nice touch as well! Amy was helpful throughout our stay striking a nice balance of checking in on us to make sure everything was okay - and to drop off homemade blackberry jam and fresh bread - with giving us space to have a relaxing vacation. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful with a great local coffee shop and Cuban restaurant around the corner and a huge city park just a mile or so down the road. It was an easy 12-15 minute drive into downtown and there was easy access to the highway system. Aside from the Cuban spot restaurants are a little sparse in the area, but the trendier neighborhoods with more dining options are a pretty easy 10-15 minute drive. We had a great stay at Hawk's Eyrie - if we find ourselves in Louisville again we will definitely call Amy for a place to stay!
Amy is a warm and courteous hostess. She was there to greet as we drove up to the house. She had clearly thought through how to make us feel comfortable and welcome. My son, dog, and I only stayed one night, but really enjoyed our stay. The apartment is decorated beautifully, and was VERY clean! I particularly enjoyed the well-stocked kitchen with a full sized fridge, a small stove, and very nice dishes and cooking supplies. Everything was labeled so whatever I needed was easy to find - including the spice drawer and extra cleanup bags for our dog. She warmly welcomed our Poochin dog and teenage son! Amy went above and beyond by providing a small plate of chocolate zucchini bread and bing cherries for a tasty treat on our arrival. My only regret is that we did not have longer to stay and to enjoy the cozy comfort of this apartment. If traveling through Louisville again, we would choose to stay without hesitation!
I LOVED this space--it was beautiful throughout, every detail, amenity and comfort provided was geared towards rest and relaxation. I traveled alone with my dog, but I saw a lot of potential space here for larger family groups to visit as well. I appreciated the variety of food and drink comforts as well. The bathroom is a dream-anyone who loves older architecture and Parisian design will be very pleased staying here. Amy is a very accommodating host as well. The space is clean, quiet, and centrally located with good parking and quick access to the main interstate for those traveling through--but also a great restorative home for a getaway from one's every day stressors.
Amy was super nice as well as was the apartment. We were only in for one night with our infant son but what we saw of the area, it was really cool.
What a gorgeous house!! Amy and Ken have spent time making the upper level of this house beautifully accommodating.
Ken came out to meet us and show us to our place.
This was by far, the cleanest Airbnb I've stayed. There are 2 beds in one bedroom and a twin bed in a small room. My husband and I slept in the same room with my parents. The window AC unit drowned out the snoring ;)
Amy left us a loaf of banana/zucchini bread which was a nice treat with our morning coffee before heading out. Amy goes out of her way to ensure you are comfortable and provides suggestions for attractions and places to eat.
Amy was an amazing host! The place was both spacious and cozy, and the three of us got a great night's sleep. The maps, suggestions of things to do in Louisville, and free coffee were all great touches - I really wish we had had more than one night to stay there. If I ever go through Louisville again, I'll be sure to book with you - it was a great night!

About the Host, Amy
My husband, Ken, a psychology professor at Spalding University, and I have been married over 30 years and have two children living far from home so we are frequently arranging overnight accommodations. We have enjoyed staying at bed and breakfasts for years and I have always dreamed of providing the hospitality and pleasure of a home away from home. I enjoy antiquing, gardening, sewing, and watching British murder mysteries. My husband tolerates the mysteries by spinning fleeces into wool yarn which he knits into coats, capes, and caps. He gardens, cans, makes jam, and sings songs about statistical deviation to his amused students. We love hiking and the outdoors; Ken is a dedicated runner as are our two children. We've lived in Louisville, KY for over 15 years, and in June 2013 purchased the duplex next door to our home. After months of renovations, the 100+year old home is ready for guests to enjoy its relaxed and cheery ambiance.
