About this listing
Adorable studio ideally located and well decorated. Very quiet, located at 12th and top floor of a tower. 180 degree breathtaking view over the whole easter part of Montreal (you can see the Olympic stadium, Jacques Cartier Bridge, a bit of St-Lawrence river etc). Steps from the entertainment district, McGill University, downtown, Plateau, Mount Royal and St-Laurent. Basically, you can walk everywhere (WalkScore of 100!) but the studio is also close from metro St-Laurent and Place des Arts, Bixi station nearby.
You will find Everything to be happy and inspired: silence, espresso machine, good selection of teas, comfortable retro furniture, books on architecture, large balcony (with no neighbour), organic shampoo and soap etc.. And of course, all the basic stuff is there : wifi, stove, microwave, fridge, washer+dryer in the building, etc.
I use it as a secret writing spot and I almost never sleep there, you will therefore not be cluttered with my personal belongings. And as I live next door, I'm there if you need anything.
All cleaning is done with eco-friendly products.
Smoking allowed on the balcony.
Several : a few free street parking spots are available if you are lucky" There is also indoor/outdoor across the street.
Street parking is limited on the streets (check the signs carefully) but there is two $ parking next to the building. You're also very close to several bixi stations and the subway. Of course, you can easily walk everywhere.
Official check-out is noon and check-in is 3 PM but I'll do my best to accomodate your needs.
Clean sheets and towels are provided.
Soap and shampoo are provided.
You can smoke outside, on the balcony.
Feel free to use any food left in the fridge and cabinets.
Had a great stay at Elise's apartment. She was a great communicator and very responsive to questions. Keys were easy to find. She even offered to help me find a doctor for a minor but urgent medical need. On the positive side, the apartment has a fantastic view and although small, is tastefully decorated and fine for 2 people. Elise has maps and tourist info plus a notebook with helpful info like restaurants, etc nearby. Location was perfect - 20 minute walk to downtown, the old city, and close to Mont Royal park. Easy to get to other neighborhoods as well. Grocery store not too far and many places to eat nearby. On the negative side, the apartment was a bit more funky than we expected with paint peeling from the ceiling and a crumbling deck. Still, the price was good, location was excellent, and the views delightful.
We had good communication with Elise. It was a no fuss, value for $$ stay in the apartment.
We never saw our hostess during the 3 nights we stayed there. We had to retrieve the keys about 150 yards in a box on the fence of a deserted house. The code given us opened the box. Upon our departure, we returned the keys to the box.
Neither the listing nor the photo were accurate. It is not an apartment. It is a studio. We were told that no one lived there; yet the cupboards were not empty. The floor and the bathroom were clean. The futon, 6 inches from the floor, was comfortable. The comforter was dirty. My wife and I were given one bath towel. Our search for the second one was successful.
When we entered the studio, we noticed the curtains covering the window: 3 separate pieces of cloth: 2 were 3-feet too long and one was of the right size. Not one of the pieces could be moved as they did not cover the entire window. In two areas, the ceiling was seriously pealing. The floor fan worked very well after we cleaned the many dust bunnies from its face. The top of the kitchen table was damaged. The fridge worked very well.
The neighborhood was fine. Parking can be a problem. We were not told by the hostess that one side of the street is for parking but not the other. In her small booklet, Elise instructed us to bring our garbage and the recycle to the ground floor in a closed, putrid-smelling room, directed to us by an occupant. The young man leasing the apartments where we stayed was most helpful.
This was the perfect starting point for a few days in Montreal, and the view was amazing! Elise was a great host - she made it really easy to obtain the keys and checked in to make sure everything went smoothly. She also left behind a book of recommended places to try, which we definitely used. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to spend time in Montreal without wanting to pay the larger cost of a hotel.
The listing was accurate: convenient location, walking distance to city centre. The great view from the balcony was an unexpected perk.
Our experience staying at Elise's was great! The place was comfortable, clean, and close to everything. We mostly enjoyed the private balcony's vue!
