About this listing
The Los Feliz Village Bungalow is a lovely, very private one bedroom apartment in the very heart of one of Los Angeles' best neighborhoods.
This adorable place is 800 square feet of comfort, privacy and style. The windows look out to greenery or private gardens. It is a quiet ground floor unit in a lovely early 1920s one story duplex, renovated with a delightful contemporary style while keeping the original period character.
The rooms are all lovely, and well-appointed: a fully supplied kitchen with wonderful Okeefe & Merritt vintage stove, copper pots and Italian pottery. An incredibly comfortable king bed. A renovated bathroom with clawfoot tub. A breezy, stylish living room and dining area with graceful mahogony table. A serene little private office. Two well-appointed, shaded outdoor garden sitting areas surrounded by bougainvillea, Mexican bamboo and ornamental grasses. And four raised vegetable beds with organic produce for you to sample.
As far as amenities - wireless internet throughout the property, a flat screen tv with cable and HBO, organic cotton bathrobes and slippers, and all the privacy and comfort you could want.
Interaction with Guests
Please feel free to email with any requests or travel advice for the city - we know it very well and are right close by! (the apartment is also stocked with delightful welcome booklets mapping the very best of everything nearby and with instructions on how to use everything). Los Feliz Village is a terrific, very central place to base yourself, and there is very easy bus and metro access to Hollywood, Silver Lake, Downtown and much of the city. We hope you make yourselves fully at home, and enjoy the very best of what LA has to offer! Bon Voyage!
But the best part may be the location. A wonderful, tree-lined block with old Craftsman homes hidden in the very heart of the Village, but just steps away from all you could want.
Some highlights within two blocks:
Cafe Figaro, Fred 62, Niko Niko Sushi, Home, The Dresden, Los Feliz 3 Cinema, the wonderful Skylight Books, great newsstand, pharmacy, terrific boutiques
Highlights within four blocks:
Alcove Cafe, Covell Wine Bar, Umami Burger, Mother Dough pizza, Rockwell Vt, Electric Lotus, Starbucks, Steven Alan, Confederacy, pilates and yoga studios, art galleries, library, liquor store, bank, post office, bus and metro stops.
Not only is it near several Metro and bus lines, but they are walkable - a rare thing indeed in Los Angeles.
Other Things to Note
This is an older bungalow style property so can be a little hot in the summer, and cool in the winter. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom, which keeps that nice and cool when need be, but none out in the living areas which have room circulator fans. In the winter months, the floor furnace and room heaters keep it warm and cosy.
Please no pets, though we love them. The original floors are stained a cheery and dramatic white, and the furniture is all quite nice, and we would like to do what we can to keep it all that way.
We would really appreciate it if you didn't smoke in the apartment. There are three delightful outdoor sitting areas within steps of the front door for your use as you wish.
The gardens and sitting areas are for your comfort and enjoyment, but please try to keep noise to a minimum after 10pm. There are children sleeping nearby.
But, most importantly, enjoy yourself!
This is a nice, well-designed place, maybe a little worn in overall, but nice.
The real issue is that the temperature inside the house was over 90 degrees during the day! Yes, over 90 degrees.
The outside temperature in Los Feliz was in the high 80's low 90's degrees. Which is not all that unusual for July to September.
The listing had said there was A/C and indeed there was an AC unit in the bedroom but the rest of the house, while charming, was unlivable and NOT air conditioned as the listing implied.
We were literally melting away and this type of heat will make you cranky and sweaty. Not good for a romantic or business experience. The experience ruined what was supposed to enjoyable getaway.
We had to leave early and were refunded the remaining days on our stay.
My advice: avoid this place if the weather in LA is hot.
On a plus note.... the bed & pillows were comfy.
The home is in a great neighborhood, a real plus and the home was clean. Unfortunately, I arrived at night, without lights on the house it was difficult to locate. After trying to reach the host with no luck, it I finally found it after asking two people on the street. Street parking is hit and miss in this busy neighborhood. When I returned from work each day the house was unbearably hot (90 F) and took at least an hour to cool down to a tolerable level. There was only 1 roll of toilet paper, no dish towels, no soap for the washing machine. The TV remotes were missing batteries and the iPhone speaker connection was disconnected (broken?).
Eliot made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely time in a beautiful house. Thanks for the privilege.
It was a small one bed room duplex bungalow. Inside Charmingly and sparingly decorated in all white. Cute Potential garden but with no furniture. Everything worked. Easy check in and out. Difficult street parking only.
Eliot is a very fine host. He is responsive and makes sure his guests needs are addressed and accommodated for. I would stay here again for some east side charm.
The house is located in an excellent neighborhood, and is well-located and yet friendly and private. The bed was very comfortable and the furnishings were more or less as described, but with some visible wear and tear (which is understandable). The space was excellent and had good AC and heat units for the varying spring temperature. Overall, Eliot was very helpful and the space was great.
