I live here in Salvador and I will get you checked in on arrival and oriented to the apartment, neighborhood, and city. After check-in, if you would like to get to know the neighborhood, I can take you for a walk through Pelourinho and show you the area.
Pelourinho is the heart of Salvador famed historic center. Salvador was the first capital of Brazil and Pelourinho, with it's cobblestone streets and colorful colonial houses, is the city's cultural, historical, and artistic soul.
Pelourinho has an active nightlife with many bars, restaurants, and squares with live music.
Pelourinho's principal bus hub is a short two block walk from apartment. Here one can catch buses to just about anywhere in the city, from the city center's best beach at the Porto da Barra (15 mintues) to all the way to the airport (1 hr).
Daniel's place is right in the middle of the historical center Pelourinho. You literally walk right out the door to Salvador's history and culture. The apartment has everything you would need during your stay, including fast internet and good A/C in the bedroom. I also appreciated that Daniel took time to give me a mini tour of the surrounding area providing overall good tips on safety and restaurants/bars worth checking out.
Daniel was away when we arrived but her had let us in the hands of his good friend Randy who is located a few minutes away in the record shop that he owns and who came to meet us.
Daniel's apartment is in a great location and from the living room window there is a view of an old colonial church bell tower and beyond that the harbour. Daniel's appt. is relatively spacious and has the advantage of being in a quiet but central location and is also air-conditioned.
Daniel wasn't able to meet me as he was back in the States but he made arrangements for a husband and wife couple to open the apartment and show me around. They were very charming and informative, providing recommendations for shopping and restaurants in the immediate area. The apartment is as described with a view that is even better than the photos show. I arrived on a Tuesday and the neighborhood was fine during the day but a bit sketchy at night as there were fewer tourists during the earlier part of the week and fewer restaurants and shops open in the evening. However, by Thursday, there was a lot more pedestrian traffic and it felt safer. All in all, a fair deal for the price.
I was visiting my parents in California when Clinton stayed at my place, so I didn't have a chance to meet him.
Instead, my American friend Randy handled the check-in and was Clinton's "point man" in Salvador. I asked Randy for feedback regading Clinton stay and this is what he wrote:
"Clinton and Bruno were absolutely ideal! They were both polite and good-natured and they left the apartment clean and organized, as if it were their own home and they cared about it."
Sounds like things went well to me!
Staying at Daniel's rental was great. He organized a car from the airport and met me upon my arrival to get me settled. He walked me around the neighborhood, showing points of interest as well as good places to eat. He also pointed out where not to go after dark, which is important in Salvador.
The apartment is clean and comfortable. Every worked well (Wifi, TV, A/C, washing machine). Great view into the harbor and the flat is located just off the he main square in the historic center. Very convenient for walking around the old cobble stone streets and colonial buildings. It's definitely the area to stay if your not going for the beach. One thing to note is that nothing opens before 10am so if your an early rise you'll want to get provisions to keep you held over. for the location and price I don't think you can beat it!
Really good time in an amazing city as Salvador de Bahia. Location is the best and description is really accurate. clean sheets and towels at arrival.
If you really want to enjoy the real salvador experience, stay here.
Daniel was warm and welcoming from the first contact I had with him. He showed me everything that was needed for the apartment and neighborhood. He always responded to my messages quickly as well.

Hi, I'm Daniel, an American ex-pat from the San Francisco/Bay Area who has been living here in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil for over 15 years. I came down here on vacation, fell in love with the place, and ended up moving down here (watch out, it can happen to you too!). To pay the bills, I own, manage, and book vacation rental properties apartments. I'm also licensed to practice real estate agent in Brazil (Cresci #08864) in case you are also looking to buy.
