One of the worst experiences I can every describe. This is not someone's home, this is through a few people who own the apartment and live in Miami so you are literally coordinating with 4 different people. I booked one place and had to travel to two different apartments over 45 minutes away after waiting hours. I honestly can't believe I had such an awful experience and believe this is representing the entire location... I did not even stay in Santa Monica and was relocated to a different place twice..
I had been at Santa Monica for 6 nights with my girlfriend and a couple of friends. In the first 2 days we were accommodated by Lourdes From Pelican at one apartment that wasn't the apartment we had rent at airbnb. The apartment was nice, with the same characteristics of the other we had rent, but at the second day Lourdes asked me to move to another near apartment that was supposed to be a upgrade for foreigner visitants.
The check in on this other apartment would be at 3pm, but at 12h there was a group in front of this first apartment saying that they had rented that apartment too.
To sum it up, something was messy. Probably a mistake happened on her booking system and we was moved to the original apartment that we had rent on airbnb (and not really for a upgrade apartment like she said before).
That's ok, the other apartment was nice with everything we needed, the unique thing that wasn't nice was this messy day where we had waste time moving from one apartment to another.
That's it, I enjoyed the apartment, the location of this and recommend it. But I just would like to suggest Lourdes to be more carefully with this problems.
Location is perfect, very near to Promenade, restaurants, shops and beach. A large grocery and CVS is so close. We were able to shop and cook. Some more pots and pans would be great. Apartment was clean. There's a free parking place under the apartment. Beds were comfortable, Its was perfect to have 2 bathrooms.
The apartment we stayed in was lovely, very comfortable, clean, had all the amenities. It was very centrally located which made our stay enjoyable.
We did not end up in the apartment we rented, but another one nearby. Pelican must furnish all the apartments similarly, as our place looked similar (but was not the same) as the photos shown.
I am not one to complain about small things, and wasn't sure how much to write here, but my experience before arrival was the worst I've had with an airbnb host. Communication was very confusing and difficult – we got a confirmation through airbnb for an apartment on Broadway, then just a week or so before arrival received an email, not through airbnb, stating we were staying at a different location (on a much busier street.) When I wrote back to find out more information, it was several days before a response was sent, and that response was not helpful, nor did it explain the switch. They also refused to send any details about the check in process.
I tried to phone them several times to sort some of this out (5 or 6 phone numbers were listed) but no one answered the phone and there was not a way to leave a message. The one time when I did speak to someone, they said I needed to talk to someone in particular, who they promised would call me back, and there was no call back. I was beginning to wonder if there was an actual apartment for us to stay in, so was relieved that the actual stay was fine.

Very nice location and comfortable apartment. The vicinity of the bus, Whole Foods, the 3rd St Promenade and the Ocean is fantastic.
