Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
A charming historic 3bd/1.5bath cottage that boasts authentic Daufuskie character with all the modern amenities. Located in the Historic district of the island, this cottage is nestled on a large piece of property next door to the Iron Fish Gallery, only a 5 minute walk to the Island Shack. Featured in Southern & Coastal Living, this retreat is perfect for a small group or family to escape and enjoy the serenity and quiet of the island.

The space
Situated on a large piece of property with a five hundred year old live oak, this Daufuskie gem is one of the the few remaining "oyster cottages" originally built by emancipated slaves who inhabited the island at the turn of the century. Staying in this cottage is a true gullah experience with many of the original elements including bead board, heart pine floors, and one of the first ever-built staircases on the island. The house has been remodeled with the most modern conveniences to make your experience as comfortable as possible but it is rustic reflecting its historic character. The kitchen has a five range gas stove, convection oven, large refrigerator with ice maker, garbage disposal and counter top toaster/oven, coffee maker, cookware, and microwave. The bathrooms are beautifully remodeled with marble, tile, and a large walk-in shower. For beach days, there is an outdoor shower and fish cleaning station for your fresh catch and a handcrafted fire pit/smoker/grill out back for your use. Our cottage sleeps six and pack and play and high chair provided for infants. There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoor amenities including a spacious yard, smoker/fire pit, wraparound porch, screened in porch, and the peace and quiet only Daufuskie can offer. Beach towels and beach chairs for six are provided as well but we do not provide beach toys, beach gear, umbrellas or tents. A six minute golf cart ride to the beach, four minute cart ride to the First African Baptist Church, Maryfield School/School Grounds Coffee shop, and a walk to Fryes kitchen, make this location ideal without compromising privacy. This property is located next door to the Iron Fish Gallery, a unique landmark gallery established on Daufuskie since 2001. Dogs are welcome. No more than two dogs per rental please. We do charge a $100 flat fee for 1-2 pets. The dogs are free to roam the property but please note there is no fenced-in yard. Any additional guests above 6 must be requested by guests and approved by hosts prior to arrival. There is a $25 per extra person per night fee for over 6 persons.
We love our home and want to rent to people who will love it as well.

Guest access
You have access to the entire property excluding the boathouse at the back of the property where we keep our boats and other equipment. Outdoor equipment including beach tents and kayaks can be rented through Tour Daufuskie and bikes can be rented on island as well.

Other things to note
PLEASE BE AWARE, Daufuskie is a bridge-less island and you are not able to bring your car. You must arrive by ferry or boat and plan transportation to the cottage from the ferry. A golf cart is provided with the rental, one four seater which will be at the cottage and must be left there at checkout. Should you wish to rent an additional cart, carts can be rented through Tour Daufuskie or Mungeon River carts. You MAY NOT put more than four people on the cart so if you are a group of six, plan on renting a second cart. A transit service is available to transport you and your luggage from ferry landing to house (where golf cart will be) and from house to ferry upon checkout. Both of these will incur additional fees for the ferry tickets and the transit to and from the house. It is the renters responsibility to plan and book all transportation to the island, not ours ad hosts. A list of water transportation options will be sent once your booking is confirmed but you are welcome to find your own company and there are multiple that run to and from the island to Hilton Head, Bluffton, and Savannah GA

Lives in Daufuskie Island, South Carolina
I enjoy living on the unique island I call home. I would consider myself an off the beaten path traveler and like to indulge in the lesser known areas of the world. I live and work on the island and will often be gone during winter months traveling. I have a dog named Mae who will often be seen at the gallery. As a transplant to Daufuskie island, I am more than familiar with its complexities and am happy to help guests navigate first time visits.
