About this listing
Our home consistently wins "Beautification Watch" awards from the city of Akron.
5min from downtown Akron, 30min from downtown Cleveland, but feels like you're in the Country w/ large lot & golf course view.
Treadmill, Elliptical, Weights/Bench
Our house & yard are very special, and we'd love to share them with you! We often win "Beautification" awards from the city of Akron, based on front exterior appearance. Little do they know what the inside & back yard oasis look like!
Although the Base Price listing is officially for our Sage Bedroom & 1 full private bath, we have 2 additional upstairs rooms + a pullout couch in our finished basement which could sleep more people upon request (additional guest charges apply). Message me & we will do our best to accommodate you. Please note that this is where we live too, so we do not rent the whole house.
A single traveler or couple will have your own bedroom w/ Queen Sized Bed (new mattress set) & TV, as well as a spacious private bath just across the hall (toilet, pedestal sink & tub/shower combo). This is a second floor room, overlooking our great backyard, pool & Mud Run golf course. We call this the Sage Room, since it's painted a relaxing sage green. Since this is exclusively a B&B room, empty drawers & closet are ready for your use. (Base price $90/night).
The main (Sage) guest room is separated from our master suite, by the upstairs hall & another empty bedroom. This additional bedroom (Sunflower Room) w/ Queen Bed can also be reserved to accommodate an additional single traveler or couple (additional guest charges of $35/person apply).
The third upstairs bedroom over our garage has recently been remodeled into quite a spacious retreat. For $109/night, you can stay in this very romantic Sea Glass Room. It also has a pullout loveseat & electric fireplace.
Because we only have 1 full guest bathroom, we do not rent out to more than 1 party. But we can accommodate as many people as you are comfortable bringing, to share the 3 bedrooms & bathroom.
Our first floor includes a gourmet kitchen, dining room, and living room w/ 60" flat-screen TV (spaces you'll share with us).
Our finished basement has an additional living/workout area with another large flat-screen TV, treadmill, elliptical, free weights & bench. One of the couches in the basement pulls out into a bed also.
Since there are only 2 of us, we can either all share the same living space/TV, or hang out on completely separate floors.
Our swimming pool, large back deck, fenced backyard w/ patio & fireplace, and front porch swing are also open for everyone's use (as weather permits), allowing for as much socialization or near-privacy as you'd like.
We have 2 greyhound dogs, and can take other dogs as guests too.
Interaction with Guests
We do not intend to stay elsewhere during your stay, but we can interact as much or as little as you'd like. See description of spaces/guest access above.
Our hospitality will fall somewhere between a real B&B, and being house guests. We'll serve you (breakfast/drinks) whenever possible; and encourage you to help yourself the rest of the time.
We are on the very edge of the city limits, with great highway access, where I-77 & I-76 intersect.
You have all the city/suburban conveniences at hand, city water, etc, but feel like you're out in the country.
Our street itself is a mixture of century old farm houses, and homes of various ages/sizes that were built when the old farms subdivided.
Go 3 streets in one direction and it's pretty urban, or 3 streets in the other direction for farmers markets.
We are not super-convenient to public transit, though we are VERY convenient to the highways 77 & 76. We do suggest arriving by car.
Although we have a deli, ice cream stand & grocery store within walking distance (1/2 to 3/4 mile), our street doesn't have sidewalks. We're used to walking/running on the not-so-busy street, but we're not the touristy/quaint/walkable kind of neighborhood.
Other Things to Note
Breakfast is included. Typically bacon or sausage, eggs, and fruit or plain pancakes + fresh fruit; but I'll gladly accommodate special requests with a few days notice. On the rare occurance that we can't agree on a time for me to serve you breakfast, or if you're in a hurry, I can do something self-serve or grab & go.
Additional meals can be arranged as well for a nominal additional fee. My specialties include: Italian Wedding Soup, manicotti, tiramisu; Salmon in phyllo dough, BBQ Ribs/Pulled Pork, and Chicken Paprikash. Can also cook vegetarian. 1 week notice is helpful for any special meal requests. Never mind an excuse to learn a new recipe!
AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Wifi, Iron, Hair Dryer, Towels, Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash/Toothpaste.
Don't let the dogs out! At least not out of the fenced backyard. They are retired racing greyhounds, which are very gentle indoors but different than retrievers or herding dogs. If they see something to chase, we'll never catch them!
Conversely, if you are traveling with dogs, they might enjoy our 4'-fenced backyard.
I have had great AirBnB experiences, but this is definitely in my top 3. Even if it is a bit out of your way, this is the place to stay. Sara and Jeff are really flexible and they make you feel right at home the minute you get there. They went above and beyond by letting us reserve on a very short notice. We didn't get a chance to interact much with them, but I have the best impression of both. Their dogs Grace and Parker were such a nice surprise. I had no idea greyhounds were so elegant and well-behaved (now I want one too if you can keep a secret). Their house is beautiful and it looks just like the pictures and it was the ideal place to hang out for a few hours while I worked from home on a Friday morning. The room we stayed in was really big and comfy. Breakfast was the cherry on top--this is the first airbnb where I have ever actually had breakfast. We are already considering a trip to OH next year. I really hope Sara & Jeff will have a room available. Excellent hosts, beautiful house, flawless experience. If Sara & Jeff decide to open a BnB full-time in the future, I will plan a trip just to check it out. P.S. If you feel like late night traditional Italian food in Akron, Luigi's is a short drive away; great food but cash only, take some green money with you!
Unfortunately I was unable to have the vacation with Sara due to ill health. However, my travelling companion Bill, told me he had a fabulous experience. He was made most welcomed by Sara. He also commented that Sara was a very generous host leaving plenty of fresh fruit and encouraged him to join them with breakfast foods. Although it was a short visit he was able to do the things he wanted to and even had time to face-time me from the pool.
There was a bit of toing and froing because of the changes to the booking but Sara was very patient and helpful till it was resolved.
I personally hope to meet them in the future.
I experienced 5 Star accomadation with 5 Star people. Sara was the perfect host and one of the most obliging people one could wish to meet. The breakfast was fantastic, they were great tour guides and excellent people to sit and chat with. Whenever any of my friends are going to Akron, i will direct them to stay with Sara and Jeff.
To Sara and Jeff thank you so much.
Sara and Jeff have been amazing hosts. They have a very beautiful house. They made me feel at home from the first minute I stayed at their house. Sara is a great cook. The dinners have been very tasty. I really enjoyed their company at all times. I can really recommend anybody to stay at their house.
Wow, if all Airbnb experiences are this good, then I'll be doing a LOT of Airbnb from now on! This was our first experience w/ Airbnb, but it was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Sara and her husband are delightful people, very welcoming and accommodating.
The house was immaculate and felt warm and comfy. We relaxed in their beautiful backyard w/ some snacks when we arrived and the next morning she made an absolutely delicious and generous range of breakfast foods that were enjoyed by all. The location is very quiet and yet about a minute from a major highway on-ramp. It was incredibly easy to get around while we were here and Sara was in great contact about things before and during our visit. The beds were comfortable and the rooms and bathroom were large enough. Although they have three beautiful dogs, these weren't a problem at all (and I am often sensitive to dog hair). They just enjoyed being petted when/if you felt like petting them. Sara was available to talk w/, but didn't in any way push herself on us, so we had good, interesting conversation w/ her and her cool husband about a variety of things. I enjoyed a refreshing dip in the pool as it became hot and it was very good.
Our group who stayed here would all give Sara 5 stars for this great place, highly recommending it.
Sara & I Jeff went out of their way to accomadate us. We had some long & strange hours. Beautiful home. Quiet location. Good breakfast each morning.
Thank.you so much Sara & JeffBesutiful
Had a great stay with Sara and Jeff in Akron. The house was beautiful and clean, and the room couldn't have been better—clean, spacious room with a window and a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was really, really good as well. Sara and Jeff were super helpful at every step in the process, and my only regret was that I had to leave mid-week since someone had already booked the weekend with them. I highly recommend their wonderful home!
About the Host, Sara
Professional couple who loves our dogs. We also love to travel, run, golf (Jeff) and make wine/beer.
We grew up in Cleveland, have lived & worked in a lot of different nearby communities, so we can offer touring advice if you'd like.
We love staying at "non-hotels" when we travel, and would love to own a real b&b someday. Figure this is a good way to try it out!
