The space

New solar panels installed in 2015 produce 100% of electricity for the entire house and apt!!

Recently remodeled with bamboo floors, an artist’s attention to detail, and a seasoned traveler’s appreciation of comfort, this complete one-bedroom apartment with its own entrance is the perfect home base when visiting Seattle. In the charming, family-friendly Ballard/Phinney neighborhood, you’ll be within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Phinney Ridge, and just a short drive to downtown Ballard, Green Lake, the Woodland Park Zoo, and much more. Also close to two bus lines, walk four short blocks to catch an express bus downtown.

The apartment is on the basement level of a classic Ballard bungalow with a lovely garden out front and a porch you’re welcome to use. You’ll find: new appliances and all the kitchenware you’ll need, fabulous modern tile work in the bathroom, a queen bed, 32-inch HDTV with cable, wi-fi, washer/dryer, and off-street parking.

The immediate neighborhood features some of the finest coffee shops and eateries north of the Ship Canal. Within walking distance are Bambino's (coffee shop), The Barking Dog (pub and eatery), Stumbling Goat (Northwest cuisine), Honore (French bakery), and many more. The Phinney and Ballard Farmer's Markets are a short stroll away, and for the exercise enthusiast Green Lake, the Burke-Gilman bike trail, and the Woodland Park and Zoo beckon. For music lovers, The Tractor Tavern, the Sunset, and a host of others in downtown Ballard, and in Fremont there's great entertainment within a 5-minute drive.

Check-in is after 3PM

This is an apartment for non smokers. Using tobacco products are not allowed on property. Scented products such as candles, incense etc. are not allowed and we try to keep the apartment as fragrance free as possible.

It is expected that the guests take out the garbage and recycling daily, dumping into appropriate cans the recycling, the green, and the garbage.

To keep costs down for you it is expected that you do the daily and weekly cleaning. We expect the apartment to be left almost as clean as when you arrived except for the washing of linens, floors, deep cleaning of the bathroom.

There is a cleaning fee of $50 that applies to all stays.

The ceilings in the apartment are lower than standard height so this would not work well for very tall people. We had a tenant for a year who was 6'1" and he was fine with the height.

Weekly rates do not apply during the summer season. Depending on our next bookings we can be flexible with check in and check out times.

For stays longer than a week we will need access to the washing machine and dryer at a mutually agreeable time once a week for three loads of wash.
Additional overnight guests need to be okayed by us ahead of time.
There is street parking, as well as use of driveway although it is narrow.
Quiet time after 10pm.

My roots are in Alaska, with many family members still living and working up there. I love to hike, ski, mountain bike, kayak, dig in the dirt, eat good food, and travel. My husband is a furniture designer whose workshop is located in the "Center of the Universe" (Fremont!) and is now the designated grill master with his specialty; wild Alaskan Salmon caught by our son! Our other son was instrumental in getting this apartment up and running. Both occasionally come by for a few days at a time.

We also have a karelian bear dog that is now older than me in dog years. She is sweet, mellow, and loves a hello. She lives outside during the days and when we are home joins us upstairs. She often takes doggy vacations with our son for a few days or longer that she absolutely loves.

I spend my winter months surrounded by sweet, loving 6, 7, and 8 year olds teaching them to read and love books!

We're happy to share our knowledge of Seattle and surroundings. We can send you off on some great trips culled from our many years of exploring the Northwest!
