Interaction with Guests
I am a ceramic artist, and guests are welcome to visit my studio which is only metres from the main house. We are happy to interact with guest over breakfast, guiding them on local activities and what Donegal has on a whole. My chidren are fluent Irish speakers and i speak enough spanish to get me by.
I have a keen interest in the Arts and Donegal and Derry throw up an assortment of different festivals and events throughout the year.
The main attractions are Derry Jazz festival, May bank holiday weekend, Erigail Arts Festival June/July Co. Donegal, Relay for Life June bank holiday weekend and many more.
It is a very historical area and my home sits alongside the historical Ballylawn Castle a branch of the noble Stewards and Lord Londonderry, dated back to the 17th century. There are other historical building all within a 10km radious, Burt Castle as well as the ancient stone fort Grainan an Aileach[seen in Donegal is 'Happy' video].
Letterkenny is a 10 min drive where you can enjoy cinema, theatre, leisure centres, restaurants and shopping. Derry/Londonderry is a 20 min drive in the other direction where there is a great friendly atmosphere as well as medieval walls, the beautiful 'Peace Bridge' , restaurants and shopping.
Closer to home my home is an ideal location for wildlife and bird lovers . My home borders a conservation area and there are mainly walks close at hand where you can explore the coastline and an established bird santuary.
We are a bit off the main road in the heart of a rich rural community, it would be best if you had your own transport , very handy for exploring Donegal on a whole as public transport only really connects with the more urban areas.
The main road [20 min walk] provides you with many bus options, primarily linking City of Derry and Letterkenny, as well as local buses to the neighbouring of Newtowncunningham, and futher away the seaside town of Buncranna. Ideally having your own car is the best option for getting around and seeing the best of what Donegal has to offer. There is a large parking area.
Other Things to Note
My home is a couple of miles of the main road that supports the Wild Atlantic Way and the route along these back roads is a listed cycle path.
Situated alongside a conservation area, the shorelaine is a very enjoyable walking area and good for bird watching.
This is non smoking house hold and would not suit someone who smoked.
