Rustic cabin in WI Driftless region. Unique rustic cordwood oasis. A perfect getaway for a writer, artist, musician, or peace and quiet.
You'll have 2 small cordwood cabins all to yourself. One is a writer's retreat with a queen futon bed, large desk, and ergonomic Aeron chair. The other is a cold shower/kitchen. There's a portable toilet. It's comfortable enough to be productive– rustic to create a unique, camp-like experience. The kitchen has a small fridge, a hot plate & toaster oven.
The space
Take relaxing hikes through the peaceful forest, or walk across the road and visit our thriving organic herb farm. Situated in the gorgeous rolling hills of Buffalo County Wisconsin, it’s easy to get here from The Twin Cities, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Rochester, and more.
The cabins are part of Crazy Rooster Farm and Amish Telephone Booth and Sacred Blossom Farm. A 60-acre Permaculture-inspired farm with grazing cattle and medicinal herb production.
Guest access
You'll have exclusive use of the two little cordwood buildings and the acre lot. You're also welcome to roam around the farm. Ask for directions and instructions on where cattle are grazing and which gates you can access.
Other things to note
Experience the beauty and simplicity of Amish life! Stop by the quaint roadside organic produce stands, or take a dip in the Buffalo River. Nearby pizza farms and other fun places to go for quick excursions.
There is electricity in both cabins and a small electric heater to take the chill off in spring and fall. Note that this is a rustic cabin so we do get Asian beetles in the spring, boxelder bugs, and flies. They are harmless, but we must warn you they might inspire a poem or a song. The small kitchen is equipped for one or two people to prepare simple dishes. The shower isn't heated, so it's an invigorating experience.
If you like nice hotels, this may not be for you. If you're okay with sleeping in your car... this is The Ritz.
If you get bored and want something to do, we may be able to find some wood for you to stack, a garden to weed, or a barn to muck out.

Neighborhood highlights
We're in a beautiful rural area with several neighboring Amish farms as well as other small working farms. It's a common area for motorcycle trips, cyclists, and trout fishermen. There is a wonderful Amish produce stand down the road and a diner and two typical Wisconsin bars in the town nearby. A bigger town with a grocery store is about 10 miles away.
Burger night at Together Farms and Pizza at Dancing Yarrow, Barn Again Lodge, and Suncrest Gardens are all a fairly short drive away.

I very much agree with a quote I saw on a t-shirt that read: "There are only three cities in America: San Francisco, New York and New Orleans. Everyplace else is Clevland."
Some of my favorite places in the world are: The Rodin Museum in Paris, Mt. Masada in Israel, The redwood forest near Eureka CA, and the tiny little cordwood cabin I hand-built in W. Wisconsin.
