The Space

Located in the up and coming Lafayette neighborhood, you are invited to enjoy the third floor of a hundred plus year old brownstone that has been completely renovated and wraps you in old world charm.

This is NOT a shared space. You will have complete privacy in your own private apartment.
The rooms are large, spacious, airy and six oversized windows drenching in sunlight. The kitchen is modern and is fully supplied with dishes and cookware, and wraps you up with old world charm. The bathroom is tastefully designed and complete with full sized bathtub and quality showerheads. Fresh linens and towels are included. Rest peacefully on a queen sized foam mattress bed. This apartment is loaded with closets space to make your stay fill with comfort and relaxation.

Two bedrooms total; the second room has a twin size sitting area that can easily convert to a bed if needed. Of course, there is satellite television, high speed wireless Internet, and your own Washer and Dryer included. If you have a car, there is also EASY street parking.

You are convenient to everything. Manhattan in less than a half hour by convenient public transportation and barely 10 minutes by car. Half a mile from historic downtown Jersey City with trendy restaurants, bars, and shops abound; a sprawling and popular beer garden; and the Grove St. PATH station. From Grove St., take the PATH subway to Manhattan – six minutes to the World Trade Center stop or 15-25 minutes to Greenwich Village and on up to midtown. (From the apartment, it's a matter of crossing the street to the bus and five-minute walk to the light rail, both of which bring you to downtown Jersey City.) Just a ten-minute walk to gorgeous Liberty State Park on the Hudson River – miles of cycling and jogging trails, nature center, playground, barbecue areas, and the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty where you will remember the astounding views of Manhattan and Lady Liberty.

While there are several NYC style “Bodegas” from which to pick up a few food items, there is also grocery delivery available from (website hidden). We live and work in Jersey City and love the location of this property because of its convenience and are happy to give you guidance on where to go and what to do. We also live in the upstairs portion of the house.

NOTE: Please be sure that all guests have a driver's license or passport for check in.
Check-in time MUST be arranged in advance due to our work schedules and we will try to be as flexible as possible for your convenience and accommodate your arrival time.
Daily cleaning is available at an additional cost.

  • Charlaine was a fine hostess, and the apartment was a very nice place to stay close to NYC while I commuted to work in Newark for the month. The Grove Street PATH train is accessible from the #4 bus right outside the house. The neighborhood is "blue collar," after a short time, regular commuters were saying hi to me on the bus, and when I had a car I had no problem parking on the street, though I did manage to get ticketed for not moving my vehicle for street cleaning, so it pays to pay attention to that sort of thing! I also enjoyed that I could do my laundry in the apartment, a huge plus, and the cable tv had about a gazzillion stations. I would definitely recommend Charlaine's place~

  • Returned home yesterday after a 5 day outstanding stay at Charlaine's. These spacious accommodations are truly a home away from home. Excellent, clean facilities you could really ask for no more. All amenities are covered superbly (this coming from a true cynic) and described accurately in her description of the property. For punctual transportation I’d suggest using the reasonably priced Uber to the path or train stations instead of the bus or just walking. This property is exceptional and will be my home away from home if I ever visit NYC or NJ in future.

  • Charlaine was kind and hospitable with us! We got from her all information about transports, places to visit and things like that. We had a good stay, the apartment was clean and spacious. Just one sore point: the bus was never on time.

  • Charlaine is a super host, very warm and friendly person and kindly provided a few groceries to welcome us. She is really exceptional. The apartment is nice and well equipped, has everything you need. It is just over the road from a deli and 10 minutes walk from a large supermarket and food outlets. It's convenient for the PATH train which takes you straight to lower manhattan/WTC or up 6th Avenue to Greenwich or midtown. We never needed to use the subway. The train stop is 20 mins walk or there is a local bus to the station but we always just walked. We really enjoyed this place and would come back again.

  • Charlaine was very nice and the unit was very clean and spacious. It was a great home base for us to get into the city.

We normally walked to Grove St. to get to the World Trade Centre station and door-to-door it was around 45 mins to get to the city. The layout is a bit odd in that the only washroom is only accessible through the kitchen but for the 2 of us it wasn't a problem.

There is a pretty strong air conditioner in the main bedroom but I don't think there is one for the smaller room. We stayed in Aug so it did get pretty warm without the air conditioner.

Internet access was not a problem and had more than adequate speed.

Street parking wasn't an issue. The only problem is dealing with the street sweeping (at home I don't have this issue). They sweep the streets Monday, Tues, Thurs and Fri but it depends on what side of the street you're on. Anyways, it definitely was something to be aware of. Not that big of a deal but something that did need to be dealt with.

Overall, we had a great time. My girlfriend is a bit of a germaphobe as well as hates bugs and the fact is the place is very clean that she had peace of mind. Well worth the stay!

  • Charlaine was a great host - accepted our reservation at short notice (a previous host had cancelled on us) and the apartment was well located for our visit to NYC. A 20 minute walk to the PATH station (or 5 minute bus ride) and then only a short train ride to Manhattan. There are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance as well. Beds were comfy, the apartment was very clean and wifi worked great. Thanks for an excellent stay!

  • The apt in Jersey City hosted by Charlaine and her daughter was fantastic. The apt is very clean and all ammenities you could think of (and some you know you forgot) have already been anticipated. The WiFi and cable TV were excellent. There is ample parking in the neighborhood. For a summer bonus - you can easily walk to Liberty State Park, or even better - take a short bus ride to the NY Waterways ferry and get to lower Manhattan across the Hudson river in minutes. It's what the locals do year round, but particularly fun in the summer. Charlaine and her daughter have a wonder knack of being there when you need anything or to chat about the day, but they also give you privacy when needed. To me - this is the exact reason why Airbnb works. Nice hosts, up front information, and exceeding expetctations at every step.

Very glad I chose to stay here. In fact, I'm currently staying here again....

  • Charlaine was a wonderful and helping host. The house was clean and everything was perfect. From Charlaine's house you have a connection to Manhattan WTC, it takes 30 to 50 minutes to get there. Right opposite from Charlaine's house, there is a Deli with also very nice people and good cold and hot sandwiches and all you can need to cook.
For this price you get a wonderful place, with fair connections to Manhattan. If you are not used to big cities and the noise I would advice to bring earplugs to have a peaceful rest. You can hear very well the noise from the street, but this is a common problem that you would find anywhere in the city.

Thank you Charlaine, we will come back!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about me. My family and I have been living in New Jersey, Jersey City for over a decade now and we cannot think of a better place to be. I too love to travel and have been all over Europe, Asia and Africa. My favorite place that I have visited is Tahiti…it just felt like heaven to me. I am a city girl and just love the idea that I live so close to Manhattan and I can be at the theatre in less than 20 minutes.
