The Space

Casa Libertad is a unique and historical home located in the Quepos hills where the first foreign settlers lived, the location is known as La Macha ( the blond) after the first settler Luz Henchoz of Swiss origin

This recently modernized and remodeled, lovely 2 bedroom home counts with modern furniture, a state of the art full american kitchen, large living area equipped with a large screen TV, DVD and Ipod ready sound system.

The master bedroom has a king size bed and the guest bedroom a full bed, and king size bed (which can be also split into 2 twin beds). There is one spacious bathroom with hot water shower for both bedrooms. The house is fully A/Ced, has a central hot water tank for all the faucets and has lots of privacy.

Surrounded by beautiful nature and wildlife, quiet trails perfect for walking or strolling, and with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, this home has no comparison for it is unique and cozy.

Located just a 15 minute walk to downtown Quepos or a 10 minute drive to the Manuel Antonio National Park

You may also have an adventurous 10 minute walk through lush primary forest to the low tide rocky beach of La Macha, (where most of the time you'll have the beach all for yourself!) enjoy the sun “n” sea and the seasonal creek & waterfall right on the beach.

Casa Libertad is perfect for a family of 6-8 or a group of friends wanting to get away from it all.

Please be aware that the road leading to the house is rustic. If you are driving in, an SUV type vehicle is better suited for it.

  • Just returned from a lovely vacation in Costa Rica that wouldn't have been the same if we didn't end it with a night at this lovely ocean view home in Manuel Antonio. During our stay in Costa Rica, we stayed at 2 different hotels and 2 different vacation homes and this home was by far the most comfortable, clean, and spacious accommodation of them all. The house is very well-equipped with washer, dryer, kitchen appliances, Costa Rica guide books, and her bathroom has plenty of big, super plush towels.

Last but not least - Elena and her dogs were extremely hospitable and made us feel very comfortable which makes all the difference!

  • Besides the rustic road to get there; perfect spot, incredible view, amazing hosts, peaceful, quiet, very nice stay! The house has everything that's needed and more! Didn't want to leave the house; looking forward to go back!!

  • This house is wonderful. Where do I begin? Elena and Elky are gracious and accommodating. They were both very kind and helpful. The VIEW is stunning. The beach which is accessed by a trail (kind of steep but manageable) is a paradise in itself. The house is beautiful and has everything you could possibly need. The town (Quepos) is a short taxi away and is a lot of fun with great restaurants and shops. Our time here was very special. We came face-to-face with squirrel monkeys in the backyard and other wildlife. It was amazing. Everyone here was so nice. We met some neighbors and a couple of people working in the yard and had fun practicing our Spanish. Meeting some of the locals enriched our experience. We would stay here again no question. Much love to the people of Costa Rica! We miss you!

  • Elena is incredible! She called me in CA prior to our arrival to answer any questions we may have. The home is wonderful! Monkeys greeting you in the morning. I had an unfortunate accident and needed sutures. Elena guided us where to seek out care and actually tried to meet me at the Red Cross to help me out! So wonderfully concerned! Highly recommend this home:)

  • I just had the pleasure of staying at Casa Libertad in early September 2013. This house is awesome. The views are absolutely amazing. Some of the best sunsets I have ever seen. To be honest I was very skeptical of the so called "rustic road". I thought it would just be a dirt road out to the house. But when we first arrived at the house it was a little alarming. I thought we would never want to leave the house and be stuck there for a few days (which would have been fine). But we got very accustomed to driving the roads. Not a deal breaker the house and views make up for it. Elena and Elky are both very helpful and friendly, awesome hosts to have. Anything you needed or wanted they were there to help. Elena even helped book at excursion for us. We were lucky enough that the monkeys came and visited almost every morning. One of the best experiences of our trip for sure. There are a few house dogs that are very well trained. Also a pet raccoon that is also blind. I don't know what my wife was more excited to see, the monkeys or the raccoon. Haha. We also took the trail down to the local beach. We had the beach all to ourselves which was perfect. There is a waterfall that leads to the ocean. The beach there is pretty rocky so its not a beach to go and lay out at. The trail down to the beach is pretty steep but its a fun lil journey. My parents made it up and back and my dad is in his 60's. Overall an awesome stay in a beautiful modern home in the jungle. Very close to town and not that far from Manuel Antonio. I would highly recommend this home. Thanks again Elena and Elky.

  • Wonderful house, very comfortable and clean. Great views and privacy. Loved Elena's four dogs (gentlest and cutest dogs you can meet) and pet raccoon (never met such a friendly one before. Please note that if you do not want to see the animals, they will not be there. The road up is bit rustic but very doable and not too long.
The house is fully stoked (umbrellas, beach towel, large TV, AC, etc.
We loved it and appreciated coming back to it after a day of exploring the area. It was really nice to have two very spacious and clean bedrooms and a large living room and kitchen to boot. Very modern in furnishings and comfort. Also appreciated all the tips that Elena and Elky gave us. Would definitely recommend the house if you want some more room and do not mind driving to town and Manuel Antonio (10 minutes by car. Also, the beach cove down the trail was great - a short ten minute walk down the trail.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Casa Libertad - what a hidden gem this property is! The house is situated a short distance outside of the town of Quepos. The final mile or so of the road is a bit rough, and I would recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle, although its honestly not as bad as I thought it might be. You could walk into town, but it would be a bit of a hike, for us having a rental car provided the best freedom to drive down to Manuel Antonio, or into Quepos, or whatever the days activities were. The house itself has been beautifully restored, and is very spacious. The kitchen in particular is great, and we enjoyed cooking several meals while watching the ocean from the panoramic windows. Bedrooms and bathroom were very comfortable, laundry facilities were a plus. We enjoyed having the dogs around, they were very friendly, and would deter any strangers, although the neighborhood is very safe. Elena is the consummate host, there when we needed her or had a question, but giving us our privacy as well. She helped us feed the squirrel monkeys that would come by each morning, prepared a mango dish for us from fruit picked in the backyard, and helped us find our way down the (rather treacherous) path down to the nearby beach. The beach is a rocky beach, and when the surf is heavy (as it was for us), there's not much to do there. Its nice to have so close by, but if you're looking for a more traditional experience, the beaches at Manuel Antonio are only about 15 minutes away by car. Overall, I would highly recommend this place, it is a very peaceful and relaxing location to spend your vacation!
