The space
Located in one of the most secluded parts of Scotland, Davaar Island provides a spectacular setting for a tranquil rural retreat.

The cosy and welcoming interior combined with sweeping ocean views makes the cottage a perfect option for those looking for a getaway completely removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Spend your days exploring the island before curling up in the reading room or in front of the log burning stove with a complimentary gin or whisky.

The cosy cottage makes fantastic accommodation at any time of year thanks to the top-of-the-range insulation and heating throughout. To keep you snug during the colder months, you’ll be provided with an endless supply of wood for the log burning stove and there’s an electric blankets for all of the beds.

The kitchen and living room are open plan creating a relaxed space to enjoy evenings in with delicious food and a favourite film on the TV. There’s also a study on the ground floor complete with a beautiful bureau, and a reading area, perfect for lazy afternoons with a good book.  Upstairs, the king-sized bedroom and further twin room await with luxurious bedding and an ensuite shower room.

On clear nights, you might want to venture outside to the private garden area which has a fire pit. Rugs are provided to keep you warm and you’ll be captivated by the night’s sky in all its glory away from any light pollution. Guests at the cottage also have access to a communal Activity Shed where you’ll find equipment for fishing, snorkelling and foraging. You could even catch some crabs, prawns or even lobsters with the lobster pot provided for guests.

The Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage provides the perfect opportunity to unwind, lie back and enjoy the view. However, there is a whole host of activities in the local area. Hop on a ferry and explore the Western Isles. Gigha, Islay and Arran are all easily reached. The cottage is also located just 15 minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland. Whether you’d rather visit the whisky distilleries in Campbeltown or try your hand at a spot of sea fishing, there’s something to suit everyone.

The well equipped open plan kitchen has all of the modern conveniences, including a dishwasher, espresso machine, microwave, fridge and also a further stand alone freezer.   Good quality and ample kitchen utensils and equipment make cooking a pleasure and a handy supply of kitchen essentials are provided including bin bags, dishwasher tablets, salt & pepper, cooking oils, tea and coffee, cling film, tin foil etc.

High speed satellite wifi works throughout the building.

Complimentary tea, coffee and drinks await guests on arrival including the famous local Springbank Whisky & Kintyre Gin.

The Lighthouse Cottage is set in the compound of some 2.5 acres. There is a private garden to the rear and the compound gate is closed at all timed to ensure privacy for guests.

Ned and Toni (your hosts) caretake the Island with their dogs Nellie, Dudley & Binley and an assortment of chickens. They live in the end building which is quite separate from the rest of The Lighthouse area. Ned & Toni will greet you at the beginning and end of your stay, and are available for any queries or to help during your stay but otherwise you will be very much in solitude. Providing privacy & peace to our guests is very important to us!

Dogs are welcome on Davaar and there is a £25 pet surcharge (maximum of 2 pets).  Please be aware that there are wild goats and sheep roaming as well as some very steep cliffs so if there is any risk that your dog may chase livestock then we ask you keep it on a lead.

Situated on the small island of Davaar near Campbeltown on The Mull of Kintyre. The Lighthouse Keepers Cottage is the former home to the Island’s Lighthouse Keeper and is situated in the Southern tip of the Island next to the Lighthouse itself. Whilst the Lighthouse is now automated, we have recently lovingly converted the house into a beautiful & cosy holiday house from which to get away from it all. There is an enormous sense of peace and quiet staying here, and near 360 seaviews, surrounded by outstanding scenery and briming with sea life (otters, dolphins, golden eagles, peregrine falcons and even Minke Whale are all seen off the shores of the island).

ABOUT THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS COTTAGE

The house is detached with its own private fenced in garden.
There is a large double bedroom with kingsize bed, bathroom with shower/wc. Also on the first floor is a twin room with panoramic sea views and of the lighthouse. On the ground floor there is a large open plan kitchen/dining/ sitting room with cosy wood burning stove (unlimited supply of wood). The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern conveniences including induction hob, decent sized fridge and separate freezer unit. Microwave, dishwasher & washing machine also. Off the kitchen area there is an office with bureau and comfortable separate sitting room with a large supply of books and games for relaxing on rainy days. There is a further cloakroom/shower/wc on the ground floor.

Please note that parents / carers are responsible for their children at all times on the island. There are sheer cliffs the other side of the compound wall so it is strongly advised for children to be supervised at all times and stay on the designated walking areas around the cottage and lighthouse area.

Please note there is no washing machine, however Ned and Toni are happy to help out for guests staying longer than 3 nights.

We welcome you on the mainland at low tide, and drive you and your belongings on and off the island by 4x4. On booking we will advise on best crossing times or consult the BBC tide times (Campbeltown) website which gives a good indication for planning ahead. For long term tide times the Visit My Harbour website (Campbeltown) is good .

As a general guide, it is safe to cross 2 hours either side of the low tide.
