Shell Beach is a quaint community on California's Central Coast. This is a small town where the beach is within walking distance no matter where you are. We love it here and feel very grateful to live in such a beautiful place. We live in a comfortable 1970's house in a quiet cul-de-sac. We are a five-minute walk from nearby beach resorts where you can grab happy hour and watch one of our amazing sunsets. Or if you'd rather BYOB and picnic, you can walk to the beach or one of the nearby parks (and surf spot) a block away. We're also within walking distance to 2 coffee shops, a new brewhouse, and a great little Mexican restaurant ($2 tacos, $2 Coronas)!

A few of the fun activities nearby: hiking, kayaking, surfing, biking, wine tasting – we are smack dab in the middle of wine country!

• 5 minute drive to Pismo Beach (3 wine bars, restaurants, pier, beach, billiards, bowling, clam chowder, monarch butterflies)

• 10 minute drive to Avila Beach (6 wine tasting rooms, restaurants, pier, beach, concerts)

• 12 minute drive to San Luis Obispo (wine bars, shopping, restaurants, pubs, art)

We are a pretty active couple and are busy most weekends, but if time allows we are more than happy to give the local tour and lots of recommendations. The perfect location for Cal Poly parents or anyone visiting students.

Continental breakfast and snacks are provided and you are more than welcome to use the kitchen to make your own meals.

The Neighborhood

We live in a quiet neighborhood that's great for walks, sunsets, and watching surfers. We're within walking distance to several coffee shops, restaurants, bars and a great market.

  • It was great staying with Brian and Laureen - they are very fun and communicative - it was great to catch up on fun airbnb stories since we are both hosts - the house is located in a quiet nice suburban neighborhood and the beach is a 5 minute walk - I enjoyed walking over to get coffee and pastries at the local store ( 2 minute walk) and then a nice morning walk along the beach on the beach walk close to the house - I had dinner at the brewery in Pismo which was about a 5 minute drive - everything is very close - the house is right off the 101fwy -which was great in the AM when I continued my journey to SF - Had a great time!!
I would definitely stay again - the bed was comfy too

  • We had a great and relaxing time staying with Laureen & Brian in their lovely house. They were very friendly and easy to chat to and we learnt a lot about the local area and what it has to offer..
They were very accommodating with our arrival time and kept good communication. The room is spacious, clean and very comfortable. We love the (website hidden) map of nearby attractions and restaurant suggestions. Very helpful. The breakfast provided was delicious and a lot healthier than most breakfasts we have had on our roadtrip.
The location is very good - 5 minutes drive to Pismo Beach and walking distance to another one which has a beautiful sunset view.
If we find ourselves in the area again, we will definitely like to stay here again. Highly recommended.

  • Laureen and Brian were so friendly and made our first Air bnb experience awesome! We loved the charming room, beautiful location, and healthy breakfast options. Their home is pretty child-friendly, as well. Perfect for our escape from L.A.!

  • it was very very pleasant to stay with Laureen & Brian. The room is clean and comfortable, and they shared their grandson's toys with my son, made us feel at home. they are so kind, it was a good stop to Santa Barbara, I like their place.

  • Great experience. They have a really lovely home and we were perfectly comfortable in the room. Easy to find and excellent access to Pismo Beach and the area. My friend went for a wonderful run in the morning, and we got to briefly meet with Laureen and her adorable grandson. We were both startled that anyone so young and young-looking had a grandchild! Generous and quality breakfast and the whole experience was very relaxed. I would definitely recommend.

    February 2014
  • We had an awesome time staying at Laureen and Brian's place. It's super convenient for hiking, eating, and relaxing in the Pismo / Avila area. Laureen and Brian are great hosts, making an awesome breakfast, and we had a great discussion with them over breakfast.
For the price, the convenience, the friendliness, and the comfort, we haven't found a better deal in the area. We'll definitely look to stay at their place again in the future.
When in the area, good hiking can be found minutes away at the Avila Ridge (amazing views, good workout), or a 25 minute drive to Montana de Oro (great sand dunes). Zorros (2.50 tacos and coronas) is a long walk or short drive from their place. Arroyo Grande is a charming town about 15 minutes away, with a great little downtown area - try Doc Bernstein's Ice Cream to cap off your day.
