This is a wonderful place in a great location. The bathroom shower seemed renovated, so old reviews about this can be disregarded, except that the bathroom window doesn't close so the neighbors can see in. Both bedrooms are very simply furnished, and have carpeting which is old & stained, but are comfortable. The living room & Kitchen are well equipped, and are big & airy with spectacular views. There is a nice back balcony to enjoy the views from as well. Out front, right out the front door across the street is a great park where you can hike up to a summit to relax and have a picnic, etc.
Beware pet owners: If you are planning on bringing a pet, make sure to advise the host beforehand. Although the Airbnb page says dogs are allowed, you need to get special permission from the host first, otherwise you will get hit with extra fees.
I would describe the overall appearance and upkeep of this apartment as shabby. The shower tiles seemed dirty (we wore our flip flops in the shower), there were random house hold odds and ends (old lamps, etc) piled near the interior door to the apartment itself, the basement (where the laundry is located) is a storage space with very little light and a door knob that fell off when I pulled it open to head downstairs. The extra comforter and the bedding for the small bedroom (practically a closet) seemed to not have been washed recently although the linens in the "master" (a slightly bigger room) did seem clean.
The kitchen again felt as though it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned and we washed every cup, plate and fork before and after we used them. The sponge that was supplied in the kitchen was a brown disgusting mess so we purchased one to use while we were there. The back porch had a bucket of cigarette butts on it that looked as if it hadn't been emptied for months. Also most of the screens on the windows throughout the apartment were broken so we couldn't open any windows. If we had been able to, the views of the city from the windows (especially in the living room) were exceptional but marred by the broken, dirty, non-functional screens. Basically, if you are a germphobe (which I don't think we are) you would NOT want to stay here.
On the plus side, we loved the location just a block from Haight Street with many fun places to go eat, get coffee, shop etc. Parking was also not very difficult to find on the street. Basically, if the owners just put more effort into cleaning this property and making it look less scruffy/dirty inside, it could easily be rated a 3 or 4 star stay.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
