If you are renting or driving a 4 Wheel Drive Vehicle, you have got to check this place out!! The view from the patio!!!! Simply amazing!!! The house has everything you need and the location is so close to the beach it can't be beat!! The kitchen had everything we needed and the washing machine was so great to have, plenty of clothes lines to dry everything. Ample amount of towels and the shower provided warm enough water for a great shower. You can hear the birds and monkeys in the jungle around you; pair that with being able to hear the Ocean, what more could you want. Don't take the 4 Wheel drive part lightly, the "road" up to the house cannot be done unless you have an ATV or vehicle that has ground clearance and 4X4 capabilities. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We read some of the reviews that criticized the condition of the house, I think their expectations were not set accordingly. This is not a resort, it is an amazing home with a view to die for! Thank you Harry and Thank You to Maria for the ease of checking in and out!! Don't pass this one up

Thanks for your great review and we are thrilled to know you enjoyed it so much - the house is in the jungle and occasional four and eight legged visitors are just part of the experience sometimes!

The house was great! Perched on top of a hill for great sunset views, but still a close drive to Santa Teresa (make sure you have a 4x4!), the house feels very private, safe and clean. We didn't have any issues with scorpions or facilities not working as mentioned in some of the other reviews. Maria was our contact person there and she was amazing! She went above and beyond what I expect from an AirBnB host. Thanks for making our trip that much better!

The view is beautiful and offers not only amazing sunsets but also monkeys, which we really enjoyed. Ty, the main person of contact, was super friendly and helpful. He was very prompt and always available for advice on local places/things to do. That being said, there were some issues with this place. On our first night, we encountered 3 scorpions. One of which was huge. There were dead bugs on most of the cooking supplies and even in the tea kettle. The bug screens were falling down, as many were held up by duct tape. Lastly, I was electrocuted by the shower in the main bathroom. We have experience using "suicide showers", but this one was highly questionable. Overall, this could be a nice place if it were given the maintenance it really needs.

Overall the Jungalow was awesome!! We stayed for 1 month so we learned all the ins and outs of the place. As others have said, you do need a 4x4 or will not have a good trip due to the crazy driveway and terrible roads all over Mal Pais. We got one though and it was no problem. The Area: Mal Pais is amazing! We almost went to Jaco or Tamarindo and are so glad we choose here. The surfing is great and its not crowded. There is very little nightlife though. We didn't care. Below are some Pros and Cons of the House. Regarding the Cons, the house is an unbelievable deal, so keep in mind that we were there for a whole month and they might not be cons for you. Some of them were not mentioned in the listing so please pay attention before deciding. Pros: - Super beautiful view of the ocean - So close to the beach, about 3 minutes drive to amazing surf. - House has a good feel overall - Great staff that watches over the house. - Very Safe - Super close to Villa de Olas, which you need to check out! It's a really beautiful pool that over looks the ocean with a bar. - Monkeys some days! Cons: -No air conditioning. It was 90-95 every day so this was pretty tough. We did not think air conditioning would be necessary, but we would not stay in Costa Rica without it again. -Lots of dangerous insects! This is in the Jungle. We found some large snake skin in the house along the rafters which was not settling. We also came across many large Scorpions. The house is not well sealed, so insects will get in. If you have children, you might want to look at other places as some of the insects and snakes in Costa Rica are very poisonous. The animals outside did not bother us, but the Snake Skin in the rafters of the house was not okay. The host should have removed them before we arrived and made sure there were no snakes in the ceiling. -You have to pump your water and toilets do not work well. We had to pump water about one over 2-3 days. Not the end of the world, but was not in the listing. - Water is not drinkable according to Locals. This is everywhere in Mal Pais, so just know you need to go to the store to get water. Conclusion: The Jungalow is a great place especially for the price! The above cons are hard to consider cons when we stayed for so cheap. You get what you pay for. Overall, we would not stay again due to no AC, since we stay at places for a month or more. If you are coming for a few days, then this might be a good fit for you. If the owners sealed the house better, it would really help!

This was the coolest airbnb we stayed at in Costa Rica. The Views are breathtaking, and the Casitas are adorable - the perfect size. As an architect, I appreciated the simple and straightforwards design and construction quality. The place was super clean and Richard was a very sweet and helpful host. Will definitely recommend this place to future travelers.
