Santorini is one of the most beautiful islands. Situated in the south of the Cyclades formation, it is characterized by the impressive caldera with its breathtaking views, the traditional villages with the whitewashed houses and the blue-domed churches, the beaches with the black sand, a testimony of its volcanic origins. The capital of the island, Fira, is placed on the edge of the caldera rocks overlooking the volcano from a height of 300 meters. It is the heart of of the commercial and night life of the island.
The settlement of Akrotiri reached its peak in c. 1650 B.C., just before the great volcanic eruption that buried the village and brought the Minoan civilization to an abrupt end. Now, you may visit part of the archaeological site that extends to a diameter of 10000m. There you may admire the ancient city, the houses, squares and streets. From the famous frescoes found on the site one may comprehend the affinity with Minoan Crete.
The village of Akrotiri revolves around a Venetian castle of the 14th century and offers views of the caldera and the towns of Fira and Oia.

Good place in Santorin if want you a quiet place to stay and do not want to be with all tourists in Fira or Oia.
You need to have a car (10min to go to Fira and 30min to Oia), you can book it throught Silvia, people are nice and price is really OK.
We were really well received with comments and things to do in Santorin.
We came with our 1 year baby : one bed was ready for him and a baby bath also available. Unfortunately, we do not use the swimming pool because it was too windy outside.
We have really enjoyed our stay here.Love that the area is slightly away from the main tourist attractions. It really helps to relax and if you want to join in with the tourists you still can as drive anywhere takes no time at all. Clean and comfortable accommodation, well kept. But most of all we loved our interaction with Nike, the lovely property manager. So helpful, always there to advise with fantastic recommendations. Without a doubt Nike made our trip unforgettable. Big thanks going out to her x
We had such a great stay in Aura Marina! We definetely recommend to go there and to enjoy a great time...
Nike was very helpful with everything: she gave us lots of information about Santorini and helped us to rent a car beforehand. Nike is a great and very gentle host.
The apartment is just awesome, you can only feel very comfortable, so go there by yourself and enjoy!
We spent 6 days in Akrotiri at Aura Marina and had a great time. Nike was very helpful and provided us with loads of info on good places to eat and some of her favourite things to do around the island. The apartment was lovely, a good size for 2 people, and had a great view from the balcony. You definitely need a car to get around the island but it's worth it to stay in a quieter location.
Nike was great, she showed us to the apartment, which was clean and comfortable. She gave us some brilliant advice and recommendations on what to do, where to eat (she knows some fantastic tavernas and restaurants that shouldn't be missed, especially if you like seafood!).
Akotiri is a bit out of the way and you definitely need to rent a car, to see the island, but this would be the case wherever you stay.
If you are intending to do and serious cooking it's worth noting that there is only a single induction hob and a microwave so you need to be a little inventive.
I would recommend staying here, it has everything you need and Nike has the Santorini inside knowledge.
We had really good time at Aura Marina. The apartment was lovely, with private terrace and pool. It was quite and peaceful. We enjoyed it so much!
On top of that, our guest Nike was so nice and helpful! All her advices for restaurants, bars, beaches were really great.
The view from the apartment is gorgeous: you can see the sea from everywhere and a great part of the island and the small islands in-between.
The apartment size is quite convenient, with two terraces, and enables one to feel at home and to relax, with all due appliances.
Nike has been extremely helpful and competent : she even brought me traditional food as I arrived on an Easter Sunday, a day where traditionally almost everything is closed in Greece. Most of all, Nike has a very cultural approach to the country and its rich past, and that is very important to make the experience more valuable.
