  • It was very nice experience staying there with happily married host. They both can speak English very well, so we had nice and fun

  • Lily and her family made us feel very welcome. Her son Bei Bei was very good with our 2 year old daughter Athena. lily cooked us a delicious home cooked meal every night and morning and she took us sightseeing on one of the nights. Lily made a detailed list with directions on how to get to each one by bus or taxi. This was so helpful.

  • I don't think there is a better way to get to know the people of Suzhou than to stay at Lily's place with her husband and their son. Lily was incredibly hospitable — she cooked amazing dinners AND breakfasts, and on the first day took me on an orientation bike tour.

Because I am studying Chinese, she went out of her way to speak Chinese with me and explain new words -- just like a patient teacher -- though her English is great.

The apartment is a 6th floor walkup penthouse in a relatively recent housing project that caters to the new middle class. It is close to several major Suzhou landmarks, but not in the very center of Suzhou. There are, however, very convenient and quick options to downtown -- via a city-wide bike rental system (Lily lent me a card for the duration of my stay, which made exploring the city very convenient) or via an extensive and cheap bus network (just stick a 1 yuan note or coin into a box on entry). But Lily will tell you all this, and will also ply you with detailed maps and English instructions on how to get to each landmark.

The room itself is south-facing, with a view. The bed is huge and very comfortable, and there is a small desk, and ample cupboard storage. The bathroom is across the hall, but reserved for you. The shower had hot water in the mornings when I was there.

I would recommend staying with Lily, and would do so again should I come back to Suzhou.

  • This was our first stop in Asia and our first time ever in China. We wanted to experience as much culture as possible and decided on our first ever airbnb. A lot of firsts. Our decision to choose Lily was the best decision we made on our 16 day journey through China, Philippines, and Thailand. It was me, my wife, and two friends.

Everything from start to finish was wonderful. She emailed us all kinds of help guides to get us from Shanghai to her home in Suzhou. She even worked with a friend in Suzhou to be sure that our driver was able to find her place. When we arrived she and her family were there to greet us and show us around her well appointed home. She gave us some more material to help make the most out of our stay and provided us an easy to use cell phone to call her day or night (literally) any time we needed anything. We ended up being so grateful for the cell phone as the language barrier was much more than we anticipated as we have never experienced an Asian culture before. We used it many times to ask for translation with taxi drivers to get us where we needed to go. Despite Lily being at work or sleeping she picked up every time and never seemed put out or anything. Did i mention she has amazing English! No problems there so don't even worry about it.

She makes amazing food as well and was genuinely happy to cook traditional meals for us. They consisted of many items and she even topped it of with an alcoholic beverage to help it all go down. She had breakfast on the table every morning for us before she went to work and made us most of our meals at night with the help of her husband. Her son was also there and we had fun playing games on the iPad with him and the language barrier wasn't a problem. All around the family was super nice and made our stay very comfortable. We felt like we were visiting family.

One night Lily even took us out to show us a part of town we had not discovered otherwise. She showed us the bus system and took us to some fun bars then went home while we stayed out. Again, we called her late at night for translation on how to get back and she picked up the first call and with a smile.

She even helped us with train tickets and directions for a day in Shanghai along with suggestions on what to do and how to get around.

I can't say enough about how awesome and friendly Lily and her family are. You won't regret staying with them. This leg was the highlight of our trip and we all miss them dearly. I hope we cross paths again some day!

  • Lily is an excellent host! She had worked out every detail, served us amazing local food (though we were vegetarians), booked our train tickets, came shopping with us to the local market, and provided amazingly good maps with precise Chinese instructions. Lily is a very efficient Chinese woman!

Her place is close to many bus stops. We are still in Beijing now and can't let go the Suzhou experience, definitely recommend if you plan to stay in Suzhou!

  • Me and my mother stayed a total of five nights at Lily's place in Suzhou. To put it simply: We had wonderfult days in the city and in particular at Lily's place. Lily is an extraordinary host who will make everything possible for you to have a trip you will never forget: both breakfast and dinner served with great cooking skills, exellent daytrip recommendations for Sushou and Shanghai, organisational issues for your travel in the regions (ticketsI) etc. Last but not least: she and her family are charming and wonderful characters. When you seek a place to go in Suzhou - this is the place to go.

  • We loved out stay in Lily's home. She has a spacious apartment and is a very gracious host. From the moment of our booking, Lily provided assistance to us with travel reservations and advice on how to travel and what to see. On our arrival she greeted us with a hot meal and proceeded to help us tailor our visit to Suzhou to meet the needs of our family of 4. She helped us filter through all the possible things to see and decide what would best suit us. She provided detailed directions on how to get to and from every major tourist site in town complete with maps, and directions in Chinese and English for each site along with descriptions of each location. Her advice was always right on. she is extremely knowledgable about all the city tourist spots, great local eateries, transportation, and special events around town. She knew or found out the answer to every question we asked. Her advice was stellar. Each morning she made us a hearty breakfast and always offered dinner each evening if we wanted to dine in. Her young son and husband were friendly and accommodating. Having another child in the house helped our two children to feel right at home, one night when we were too tired to be out, her son and our two watched a movie together and we all just relaxed. The accommodations were comfortable and respectably clean. Water bottles and basic toiletries as well as bedding and towels were all provided. Lily made herself available by phone to answer any questions or help talking with taxi drivers throughout the day. Her home is just a short taxi or bus ride away from many of the old city parks, canal streets, and temples. It was quite convenient. If you aren't familiar with Suzhou and could use help navigating, and don't mind a hostile/home living accommodation, and enjoy Chinese food, or have a family with younger children then this is the place to stay. Lily and her family were wonderful hosts, we have no complaints and only wonderful things to say about them. We will highly recommend this place to any friends visiting Suzhou.

  • Lily is an amazing host. The room was very clean and very kindly arranged. We also had a own bathroom which was also very clean. The apartment block is located in the center of Suzhou and very easy to rich by the taxi and also by the public transport. Lily and her husband are very hospitable and helpful. Before our arrival Lily helped me a lot with the train tickets and provided me with all necessary information. During our stay Lily prepared traditional chines dinners for us which were very delicious. After the dinner she took us over the city center and told us about the history and culture of Suzhou. In our opinion Lily's home is the best place to stay in Suzhou. Thank you so much Lily. We hope to see you again soon.

  • Lily is an outstanding host. I'm not sure I can add anything that other reviews haven't already covered. All I can really do is reiterate that she, and her husband, make staying in Suzhou so incredibly pleasant and easy.

If you're considering going anywhere near Suzhou, I highly recommend you take at least a few nights to explore the place, and, when you do, be sure to stay with Lily.
