Great location, nice, quiet apartment. Family friendly! :) Mattresses should be changed! ;)
The listing was not what we expected based on the photos and other reviews. The photos are generally accurate, but they do not show the wear and tear that seems to have occurred since they were taken. The place seemed clean enough at first, but as we got settled in we noticed that the walls, exterior of the fridge, and the shower curtain were pretty dirty. Like other reviewers noted, the towels provided were thin and worn. (There were, however, four of them, which was a plus.) The shower had poor water pressure and fluctuated between very hot and tepid. The mattress was pretty uncomfortable; we could feel several individual springs. We were awakened by the creaking caused by upstairs guests walking.
It's obvious that this unit (and possibly others in the building) is used exclusively for short term rentals (i.e., Airbnb). The unit lacks amenities that one might find in a lived-in apartment; e.g., basics like salt and pepper, shampoo and conditioner, etc.
On the up side, the location was very good for South Beach and the apartment felt secure. It was in the rear of the building and the bedroom window looked out to a small courtyard. Other than the creaky sounds from upstairs, it was pretty quiet, with minimal noise coming from outside. Though we did not communicate with or see Javier once we arrived, he was quick to respond to inquiries we had prior to arrival.
All in all I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to a friend. However, if you're coming for spring break and want a safe, no-frills, conveniently located place to crash, I'd recommend this one.
Great location, close to Lincoln Road Mall, Beach and Washington and Collins Ave full of shops and bars. Pretty clean apartment, but to much Ikea stuff, and bed in living room was little creepy (not in bedroom). Kitchen has everything that you need, Bathroom also but Javier could buy some new towels and more than 1 roll of paper. Air conditioning is working well but it smells badly. 4 parking spots is not much for whole apartments and you can't leave car on the street from 6PM-6AM. Great place if you want to be out for much of your time and get back for night.
Decent, basic and clean place for the money paid. Basic ikea furniture is a little bit dated now i think. 4 parking spots fill up fast so you need to be on the lookout. Although no visitor parking tags were available from owner for street parking at night. 12 st muni parking is closeby. Instructions to get in were pretty clear. And location is close to beach /lincoln mall etc.
Great apartment. Clean, simple. Not very pretty or impressive, but very comfortable. It was close to the action, about 2 blocks from the beach. It was nice to Combe back after being out late to this very quiet apartment. I didn't interact much with the host, but he let us leave our luggage there when we arrived early and let us borrow some beach towels. Thanks for the lovely stay!
I booked this room for my parents, while my husband & I stayed in another of Javier's rooms in the same building. My parents shared the exact same feedback as my husband & I had, which I've pasted below from my review for our room. Only differences are they didn't have squished dead bug guts on the wall, but they had a GIANT spring poking out the top of the mattress right where my mom (who has had 2 back surgeries) was sleeping. Here is the rest of the review...
My parents were quite surprised this apartment got as many positive reviews as it did, as they were not at all pleased with it at all. I will start with the positives: Javier was polite & responsive, the location is convenient & safe and the cable, internet and air worked well. The negatives, however, outweighed the positives. My parents felt very dirty and uncomfortable here as it seems Javier maintains the apartment with the bare minimum amount of effort & money. From providing one roll of the cheapest possible toilet paper you can find, to providing super old & ratty towels & sheets with lots of stains, to the horrible quality, uncomfortable mattress. The walls in the building and in the apartment itself were incredibly scuffed up and dirty. While the major surfaces like the sink, floors and counters were clean, things like the blinds, top of the fridge and other random locations clearly haven't been cleaned in a long, long time with a thick layer of dust. The halls in the building were sub-par too, with super stained/dirty carpets, broken picture frames hanging (many with the iKea paper still in it), broken tables, and a funky smell throughout. There was also never once an open space in their 4 free spots in the front, and you cannot park in the street at night so we had to park in a $20/night lot up the street, which is fine, but he should be clear about it. Sure, the whole experience could've been worse, but we all would most definitely not stay here again nor recommend it.
