I have a lovely private guest bedroom in my home. The house was built in 1906 and is located in the hip Hawthorne district of Portland. There are some original features still in tact, with many contemporary updates that blend nicely giving a casual open feeling to the main floor of the house. We're only ten minutes to downtown via bus, max train, or car. You can walk or bike to coffee, boutiques, some of the best restaurants and food carts Portland has to offer, music venues, shops, theaters, salons, saloons, yoga studios, etc. It's all right here!
The neighborhood is chock full of great eats and the best coffee shops-all just a few blocks from my house. The Bagdad Theater is right up the street, where you can enjoy a local microbrew and pizza while watching a movie in a uniquely appointed movie house. Powell's Bookstore is across from the theater if you feel like browsing til late evening. Lots of great vintage shops abound, in addition to plenty of other eclectic and contemporary boutiques. Organic and conventional food can be found nearby at New Seasons, and a weekly Farmer's Market on Wednesdays and Thursdays at our local Co-op. There are several places to get fresh organic juices and smoothies also.
Hike or bike to gorgeous Mt. Tabor Park to view our beautiful (website hidden). Tabor is a dormant volcanic cinder cone just a short walk from my house. It's one of my favorite places to watch the sunset in Portland, as well as have a picnic, or just walk around the reservoirs and paths to take in the flora and fauna.
I am always available to give guidance and recommend Portland's best offerings. Stay for one night or several days. The room can accomodate one person or two people who are sharing a bed.
One adorable small dog and two (mostly outdoor) aloof cats also reside here.
Other amenities such as a light breakfast, (fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, tea, etc.) or laundry facilities are available upon advance notice for an additional fee.
We are laid back and flexible, so if you let me know of any special requests I will do my best to accomodate you.
We love meeting people from other places and are always happy to include our guests in the occasional household happening, such as a backyard bar-b-q or dinner gathering. We also realize most folks have limited time and previous plans for their visit to Portland, so we won't ever be offended if our invite is declined. We want your stay to be relaxed, enjoyable, and memorable in the best way possible.

I had a really nice stay at Kaffka's house on that comfortable bed in the picture. I was busy with a weekend conference downtown, so it was nice just to leave my car parked on the street and take the bus back and forth from either Division or Hawthorne Streets, just a short walk away.
Great home stay. Very portland. Very nice room. Never felt uncomfortable.
I highly recommend Kaffka's house for a stay in Portland. She and her daughter are FANTASTIC! Very friendly, genuine, and have great recommendations for restaurants, shops, walks, etc.
Great location in the center of a nice and safe neighborhood. Fantastic restaurants, bars, shops are only minutes away. Bus stops within a 5 minute walk as well. I did not need a car on this trip.
I don't even know where to begin. My stay at Kaffka's was truly amazing. I got to get a real taste of Portland in the trendiest, most hippie neighbourhood of Portland. Could not have stayed anywhere better. Kaffka was also the best host and truly made me feel at home. She is the most generous person I've met.
Thanks for everything and I'm looking forward to coming to Portland soon!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Great location. Great neighborhood. Fantastic host. A five-day booking, based on a few pictures and a few reviews, could be risky for Kaffka or any would-be guest. Yet from the moment I arrived I felt very much at home, at ease, and quite lucky. This to me is the best of AirBNB: Exceptional people open their homes, maybe their lives, to strangers, and the rare experience often follows.
On previous visits to Portland I had explored the NE and NW districts; never this neighborhood. Friends with whom I had planned to stay had a serious emergency. Our visit postponed, I decided to stick with my plan and come to Portland anyway; maybe just wing-it and something good might happen. It did.
Thank you ... rare, unique, generous, kind Kaffka.
Spent a lovely few days in Portland on a trip between Ashland and Seattle to visit friends. This was my first time using Airbnb and I couldn't have wished for a nicer experience. Kaffka's home was just as charming as her listing promised and she was a gracious host who immediately made me feel right at home. She even shared her favorite yoga spot with me one morning! Fun, hip and authentic, I'd highly recommend this experience for anyone looking for a real taste of Portland and what gives true traveling its appeal. Can't wait to go back!
Kaffka was very welcoming and eager to share her knowledge of great Portland restaurants and bars with us. We certainly felt comfortable in her home! The room was clean and quaint.
I had a great time with Kaffka and her daughter Renate. They were friendly, chatty and very open. Her home is smack in the middle of Hawthorne and Division and in a wonderfully quiet neighbourhood with beautiful (typical) Portland houses with porches. Easy public transportation to just about everywhere. Loved it.
Kaffa's lovely room is wonderful. It is in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the Hawthorne district. Kaffa is friendly, made us feel comfortable and was available to tell us about Portland. We especially enjoyed her suggestion to visit Mount Tabor park. Hope to be back to visit again!
I wanted to get away from downtown and explore life in the Hawthorne district, and Kaffka's place filled the bill perfectly. The room, tucked back behind the kitchen on the ground floor, offered all the comfort and quiet I could want for a good night's sleep, while Kaffka, her daughter, friends, and anyone else who happened to stop by, gave me a real taste of the life of the neighborhood. I was treated like a friend, we chatted up a storm, and I felt like I had come home.
I loved the convenience of getting out here: the #4 bus dropped me a few blocks away on Division after a 10-15 minute ride out of downtown. The neighborhood makes for great walking, with a lush and interesting residential quarter sandwiched between Division and Hawthorne, both of which offer all of the eating, drinking, and shopping one could need. Kaffka's place is just down the street from the Baghdad Theatre.
All in all, I recommend staying here, but especially if you're a traveler who likes to meet the locals and hear and tell stories over good food and good drink.
