This is a creative's haven with eclectic cozy furnishings with a vintage flair. Close enough to walk downtown but far enough to also be a quiet retreat. A great place to make yourself at home for a short visit to the Little Apple or your longer stay.
A large private bedroom with a comfy California king-sized sleep number bed with down comforter and array of pillows. There is also a Hepa filter, humidifier and alarm clock to make your stay more comfortable. The room has a giant mirror, art and a vintage typewriter (not for use) that make it a wonderfully cozy and calm atmosphere.
In the living room there is a 32" Sony television with cable, On Demand, Netflix and Blue Ray player. There is a fast and reliable Wifi available. You can curl up with one of the many books or magazines or play one of the records on the record player. Feel free to play the piano or feed the aquarium fish.
There is a fully equipped kitchen for use with vintage stove/oven and all the tools necessary to whip up a delicious meal. There is a coffee cart full of various coffees, teas, an espresso machine, french press, tea pot, honey, sugars and cinnamon.
You can also relax in the adorable vintage bathroom after a long day or night of fun.
There is also a back porch and hammock you can use. Perfect for an afternoon of reading.
There is a cat and a very small dog who live here also. We are all very friendly! The dog leaves with me when I am on the road. The animals can be kept away if they become too much of a bother but they love meeting new friends and will certainly like saying "hello." We keep the house tidy and inviting; full of light, laughter and art.
Feel free to play the piano! but refrain from handling ANY of the other instruments. They are quiet delicate and even if not monetarily valuable they are rich in sentiment. As I live in the space, I do have my stuff there. Please be respectful of my things and privacy. :-)
Interaction with Guests
I am a touring musician and singer/songwriter so I might be out of town playing shows when you come in. In which case, I have friends to greet you and let you in. I am happy to answer any of your questions regarding Manhattan and things to do and see. I can even show you around town if I am available!
I LOVE this neighborhood! It is SUPER safe and conveniently located to downtown/Aggieville. We are right next to the Zoo and High School. You can walk or ride a bike to Aggieville/Poyntz in less than 10 min. (the ride back up the hill might take a bit longer :P) Within minutes you can be on all of the major roads. It is so centrally located but also feels kind of tucked away. The neighbors are wonderful and helpful people.
There is a public transit in Manhattan, though it isn't utilized very often. You can call for a bus pickup or one of the handful of cabs in town. You can bicycle or walk most places fairly conveniently. Campus is a 10min bike ride away.
Other Things to Note
Dear First time airbnb-ers,
Welcome! There are a lot of you in Kansas so I just wanted to clear some things up. :) I am a person and this is my home. I try exceptionally hard to give each and every one of my guests the BEST experience that I can. However, I am a human being. I do not have magical powers (though that would be awesome if I did). I can not make the power come back on in a thunderstorm. Similarly, I can not make technology work with just will power. I am not charging an exorbitant amount and have a maid service. I am not a corporation. PLEASE, have reasonable expectations and understanding. It means the world to me to have had so many tremendous guests and now, even new friendships from hosting. If you are just looking for a cheap place to stay, or if you would complain about the optional free shampoo that I try to leave out for my guests out of a courtesy because I know how sucky it is to have to lug around tiny bottles, please stay elsewhere. If you are a RAD human who LIKES other humans and treats them with kindness and respect, YOU ARE AWESOME! And I want to hang out with you! So awesome people... Come hang out. :)
Please be kind and respectful. Fairly basic. If you smoke, smoke outside. Be nice to the animals, instruments and furnishings. If you are wanting to bring a pet, that is possibly okay depending on the animal.
Best way to experience Manhattan, Kansas? Stay a Jessica's house! Less than a mile to KState, Radina's coffee shop, Dusty Cover bookstore, and Coco Bolos. Thanks Jessica; we enjoyed our stay.
I was traveling through Kansas and made a late decision to stay the night, rather than continuing to drive, and Jessica was quick to respond and coordinate my arrival. Her directions were clear and made it easy to get into the house and find my room. I was getting back on the road early the next morning so I didn't sleep long, but I slept great. Couldn't have imagined a better stay.
Jessica is very laid back and easy to visit with, and at the same time unimposing, which made us quite comfortable in her home. An unexpected treat was a private concert--we were lucky enough to be at her house while she was practicing piano and vocals.
We were disappointed in the lack of communication and things would have worked so much better if we had known the situation. The normal check-in and check-out times are Noon. Jessica did not get into town until after 5:00 and we were left with sketchy communications about what to expect. If we had known she was not getting into town until that time before the day of the stay, we would have been happy to work with her on a good time for all.
Also, once we connected with her at her place, she was more interested in getting back to her friends. We could not get the TV to work as her internet seemed to be down. The place was less than clean. I would not recommend this airbnb to others. This was our first negative experience The cat was left with no food and i fed her myself.
My stay at Jessica's place was excellent. She was there to greet me when I arrived, and very helpful about restaurant suggestions around town. The room (the large, blue, upstairs bedroom with the king-size bed) looked exactly as pictured, and the bed was extremely comfortable. She had to head out of town after my first night there, but she left me a key and I was able to come and go as I pleased. Comfortable, convenient, and reasonably-priced. I can happily recommend Jessica's place to anybody stopping over in Manhattan.
Jessica was prompt and cheerful in replying. to my initial communications. She is extremely friendly, has great people skills and was so accommodating about the transaction and in giving me information. The home is lived in and appealing, cozy with interesting art and furnishings. The location could not of been better for my purposes and this makes me think I'd like to stay there again to explore Manhattan further. I sense her genuine interest in people, travel and being a smart business woman conveys a true professional who cares about the experience she offers and how others receive it.
It was a great cozy home with all the essentials for a wonderful stay!

I am a singer/songwriter from Kansas. I play guitar and love finding inspiration for new songs in my travels. So far, I have backpacked Europe, South America and most of Central America... with every intention of getting to see many more places on our little planet. :-) I am an avid reader, coffee addict and hammock appreciator. I am down to earth and enjoy meeting new people and hearing new stories.
