Best Location, Spacious Apartmeny, Stunning 360 View!
ENTIRE HOUSE (half of a canal house!). One of the finest and most beautiful places to stay in Amsterdam. Located on the Noordermarkt which is the most pittoresque area in Amsterdam. Fantastic view and spacious and tastefully decorated. It has two floors, one bedroom floor with king size bed and a living room with open kitchen (and a SMALL but good shower and toilet) where you enter on the ground floor.
Ideally situated you are in a walking distance to all the city most popular attraction. This canal is a very popular canal in the city and is connected with other beautiful canals in the city. The Prinsengracht, together with the Keizersgracht and the Herengracht canal. The Prinsengracht is situated in the very center of Amsterdam and runs north from the Brouwersgracht to the Amstel River in the south-east. This area is great for walks and you will enjoy the traditional Amsterdam Canals. Small bars and good restaurants, and lost of trendy fashionable shops.
The apartment is a house on its own so to say, so no sharing of anything. All private spaces and no crossing neighbors or house mates! Your own front door entrance.
Jonathan and I actually live in the same building, but on the 3rd and 4th floor.
An other great thing is the 'stoepje'. These are the little steps in front of the entrance door. Here you can relax to enjoy either your breakfast or your glass of wine. Your own terrace so to say. And sun (during summer :) from 07:00 till late evening!
All windows are triple glass, eliminating annoying sound from outside.
(Needless to say: we always have white clean fresh towels and Damask bed linnen - Monica our friendly cleaning lady guarantees a hyper clean apartment. She comes for cleaning every fourth day)
Passe par tout!
We are at your service 24/7 - like a 5 star hotel - myself i am an Ambassodor club member of the Intercontinental Hotel, so I know what I mean when I say 5 star service.
All the finest restaurants - away from the big bulky tourist traps - hip and trendy area - vintage market every monday morning - every saturday biological foodmarket.
All transportation in Amsterdam Center in by foot or by bike.
Funny enough, the only people qualifying the stairs as steep and the shower as small, are people from the USA. I guess in the US everything is BIG. In Holland the canal houses are very typical and romantic and yes small. Do not expect a modern staircase or huge bathroom - the stairs and bathroom are exactly like you see on the pictures. My grandmother who is 87 still runs up an down those stairs when she comes to visit us during summer holidays, and it keeps her fit I guess. The house has absolutely stunning unique selling points: Stunning View from all sides (corner house), Friendly Lifely Cosy Neighborhood, Two Floors, King Size Bed with fresh Damasc linnen, large flatscreen TV with wide collection of DVD's (art films), floor heating, nice open kitchen....and so on an so on....(website hidden) the area please - see it on streetview and convince yourself. MANY THANKS!

We really enjoyed our stay in Jonathan's apartment - lovely to be in a traditional canal house right on the Prinsengracht in Jordaan, the neighbourhood most suited to our tastes. Jonathan was very helpful and accessible, and gave great tips on local restaurants etc. The second floor bedroom with views on both sides of the building is wonderful and not to be found in other rentals -nice location on the square. I highly recommend staying here and assure that you will have all that you need with Jonathan as your host!
Jonathan's Canal House in Prinsengracht is the most special place, filled with character, charm and attention to detail. It really made our stay in Amsterdam that much more beautiful. The area is perfect, right on the canal, surrounded by great bars, restaurants and the weekend markets which are a wonderful experience. Being in buzzing location you would expect some noise, but the windows are double glazed and you don't hear the noise at all. Jonathan has a unique taste for interiors and the house is filled with gorgeous furniture and finishings - it is obvious he takes great pride in his home, and this makes it a lovely space to be in. The kitchen is well equipped and such a nice area to cook in while sipping on a glass of wine. As a host, Jonathan was so helpful and accommodating to us - I will without hesitation be in touch with him again for our next stay in Amsterdam.
Very nice and very well localized apartment ! You are near the center of the old town, and you are in a quiet and charming neighborhood. Everything can be done by walk, by bike and even the tram is not so far....
Furthermore, the hosts are pleasant and give you all the informations you need to have a nice stay in Amsterdam.
Great place !
My husband and I stayed in this cute apartment for 3 nights during our stay in Amsterdam. The location was perfect -- near the action but out of the way of all the tourists. Jonathan was very nice, easy to contact, and very helpful. This place was perfect for 2 adults for a long weekend. We would absolutely stay here again!
We found the Canal House an ideal place to stay in Amsterdam. It is superbly located, clean and lovely, and Amsterdam canal life truly does swirl all around it. Jonathan is a wonderful host - he is very helpful and welcoming: on top of all the arrangements; and a great source for information about restaurants, cabs, the neighborhood, and Amsterdam in general. The Jordaan district is great fun to explore and the Centrum is just across the bridge. Anne Frank house and the very worthy Tulip Museum are just down the way, and the big museums 5 minutes by cab or a beautiful 25 minute walk. Food shopping and great restaurants within a block or two and Prinsengracht itself right outside the front door. This is simply a great place to stay and it felt very much like a home while we were here.
A quirky and beautiful apartment hosted by Jonathan! My review would be much the same as Will's below (April 2014) Loved the location and if you are lucky enough to be there on a Saturday, the markets that set up across the road are a wonderful experience
The only downside is the lack of a proper bathroom which would make a long term stay not so great (for us anyway). The shower is literally the size of a cupboard with nowhere to go when you finish your shower other than into the kitchen (keep the curtains closed ;) )Then the incredibly steep stairs to the bedroom meant it was too much of a hassle to take our suitcases upstairs, which was fine for us as we were only staying two nights.
If you are inspired to cook then this apartment has the best kitchen to do so!
Overall we enjoyed our canal experience, thankyou Jonathan!
Incredibly steep stairs is weird to say. My 87 year old grand mother still runs up and down when she visits us. I guess people from the US always expect everything BIG. In Holland the canal houses are romantic and yes a bit smaller of course. But please see the pictures of the apartment and it show very clearly how the stairs, toilet and shower are. We never have people complainig about this, except for two couples from the US. Not being able to bring your suitcase upstairs is just weird to hear. Please let all the great reviews and clear pictures speak for themselves. With love! Jonathan
We stayed here for a week in the spring and had a really great time. It has a great location with the whole of central Amsterdam easily reachable.
The place is a very comfortable size for a couple. The kitchen is good. The bedroom upstairs is fabulous with a great view, and the bed is magnificent. The downstairs has under-floor heating which is a comfort on a cold Amsterdam morning.
The only reason I'm not giving the place five stars is that the separate toilet and shower are in small cabin-like rooms, and the stairs are quite cramped and can be awkward moving up and down - we had no problems but if you have limited mobility it could be an issue.
Jonathan was a great host and took care of us very well. When we come back to Amsterdam we will definitely try and stay here.
This place is magical and our host could not have been more accommodating. He was traveling aboard and they were working in the basement. When we showed up there was no hot water. We called him on the other side of the world and he immediately had the problem fixed. I dream of living in such a great place. You cannot imagine how wonderful sitting by the bedroom window watching the canal go by is late at night and the market is on your doorstep. Just awesome.
