Interaction with Guests
You can join us at any time, and Bahia will welcome you to the riad. She’s been looking after it for 13 years and is now part of the family. She’ll be there to help you, and you won’t believe her kindness.
The Bab Aylen area is one of the oldest in Marrakech. So far ignored by the tourists, it’s still peopled by local craftsmen and merchants.
It’s really close to the Souks, to Bab El Khemis (Marrakech’s flea market), and it’s only a 15 minutes walk from Jemaa-el-Fna square, which makes it’s the perfect place from which to discover the hidden secrets of the true Medina.
Getting there by car is quite easy: 50 yards away from the house is a small square planted with trees which can be used as a parking lot for your vehicle should you have one, and where cabs can take you to or wait for you from.
A taxi that knows the riad well can wait for you at the airport – which is the option we strongly advise you to take.
Other Things to Note
Djahane is a girl’s name meaning « the Image of the World ». Djahane was the worshipped lover who turned wife of famous Persian poet Omar Khayyâm of Nishapur (11th century), known for his Rubaiyat quatrains.
Riad is Arabic for «Garden ».
Displayed rate is for the WHOLE ACCOMODATION, it’s the whole riad that is for you to enjoy.
We were very excited about staying at the Djahane Garden Riad for the final two nights of a very special 12 day family trip to Morocco. Sadly, the riad was a disappointment. It is very difficult to find the riad, and our driver could not follow the directions Marion had emailed me. Apparently, many drivers have this problem.
When we finally found the riad, there was no one to help us with our bags. We loaded them by ourselves into the foyer and then had to lug them up the stairs to our rooms unaided by anyone. Apparently, Aziz is supposed to help, but he did nothing to assist us. He is also supposed to meet the drivers to guide us in, but he didn't do that either and I had no phone number to contact anyone other than Marion who was in Paris.
3.The two ground floor bedrooms do not have air conditioning which I knew before I booked. The other three bedrooms (which are located upstairs) do have air conditioners, and these are most definitely required as temperatures in Marrakesh reached 112 degrees. My father's air conditioner didn't seem to work at first, but Bahiya manged to fix it. My brother's air conditioner also didn't work, and Bahiya tried to fix it; but had no luck. The man (Aziz?) who normally fixes things had left for the night; so, on our first night in the riad, my brother slept on a chaise by the pool and had a horrible night. There is quite a bit of noise that goes on all night in this part of the medina. The dining room/living room also have no air conditioning, so these rooms are not overly comfortable. The terraces have very little shade and even though we would have liked to eat breakfast or dinner on the terrace, we were told it was not possible.
4. Air conditioner continued: A man came the next day to fix the air conditioner. We were told it was fixed. Marion emailed me to say "It is fixed!" It was not fixed. They put fans in the room, but night #2 was just as miserable as night #1. They could not spend anytime in this room as it was virtually unusable. When I contacted Marion by email to ask for some compensation for this problem, she would not offer any monetary refund or compensation of any kind. There was also a major ant problem in the bathroom of this room.
5. We were shown a fridge full of water and soft drinks and enjoyed the refreshments, thinking they were included, but we were charged 27 Euros for these beverages upon check out. For a 'luxury riad', the services were not luxurious.
The good: Saida is an excellent cook. Bahiya is kind and helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated with fabulous antiques, great art, and very comfortable beds. Marion offered many ideas and was easily contacted by email.
We had clearly specified to you the rules of the rental of Jardin Djahane in our email :
- Aziz is an independant driver we propose to our clientele but you did not wish to use his services.
- In the same email we gave to you the telephone number of the house which should have been used by the driver you chose.
- The living room does not have the A/C which is clearly specified on the RB&B internet site.
- Mineral water is included. Soft drinks are not.
- Jardin Djahane is located in the Marrakech Medina, as the other riads, which none are easy to find.
- Nevertheless some of the points you have mentionned needed to be adressed, I am now at Jardin Djahane and I have made sure that every detail you have mentionned is taken care of.
- We feel deeply sorry for your bad experience with us. We would like to offer to you the opportunity to stay with us for 2 nights, free of charge next time you come to Marrakech.
Awaiting to see you again at Jardin Djahane.
The place is beautiful. Now i understand the meaning of "oasis", read in the other reviews.
Bahia, the housekeeper, is sweet and helpful. I was there with other 7 friends and we didn't want to leave this beautiful riad: it is big, furnished with taste, and the garden is a paradise on earth.
Rooms are big and comfortable.
Marion is helpful by emails, but very discreet.
I will come back for sure. thank you Marion!
We had an amazing time at The Djahane Garden. The Riad is so picturesque and tranquil we didn't want to leave. The food was fantastic. And the house keeper Bahiya was so kind and helpful. I hope we can return again some day.
We had a great stay at the Djahane Garden! We were received beautifully and everything was organized to perfection. The house is in great condition and continuously being take care of. In the Riad we had some of the best food any of us have had in Marrakech. It was a real pleasure spending four days there, and when we weren't staying in Marion had great tips of places we should try. Thank you!! Hope to be back soon...
It was a marvelous experience. The riad is gorgeous and very comfortable. Decorated in style without excess, keeping the originality of the context. Marion was great in giving us suggestions and insights about Marrakech and welcoming us at the best. Bahia the lady governing the house was fantastic in taking care of us. I've been several times in Marrakech but I have to say, the experience at jardin Djahane was one of the best. The peculiar but fascinating thing is that the riad is placed in a very original district, a little off the usual tourist tracks. So you have the opportunity to taste a real and authentic Marrakech experience, while being still close to the souks and other attractions. I will return there next time for sure.
This riad is above and beyond our expectations! Everything is as pictured, we had the loveliest time in Marrakech and this riad was definitely one of the highlight!

About the Host, Marion
Patrick and I are both French actors. Many years into travelling through Morocco, Asia and South America, we’ve discovered this magical place. We set foot into this genuine riad with a massive patio for the first time in 2001, and we were seduced on the spot by its unique size and the light and charm it beamed upon us.
After four years and a half of inspiring works in collaboration with local craftsmen in the purest of Moroccan traditions, we enjoyed the riad and the area with our family and friends. It’s only since May of 2013 we’ve decided to finish the accommodation and decoration so that our guests could enjoy them and could stay there in the right conditions. At last, it’s ready; this new journey can begin!
Where does the name « The Djahane Garden » come from?
The house is a genuine riad, which means “garden” in Arabic (two buildings facing each other, four lush gardens and a pool in the middle).
As for Djahane (which can be translated as « the image of the world), she was the worshipped lover who turned wife of famous Persian poet Omar Khayyâm of Nishapur (11th century), known for his Rubaiyat quatrains.
It’s through browsing these sublime verses of Eastern poetry that the poet’s muse’s name took over us.
There will be several copies of the Rubaiyat for you to read, and we’ll be pleased to let you discover these quatrains...
Your well-being and your rest will be our reward ☺
