Ghent is one of Europe’s greatest discoveries - small enough to feel cosy but big enough to stay vibrant. It has enough medieval frivolity to create a spectacle but retains a gritty industrial edge that keeps things ‘real’. Tourists remain surprisingly thin on the ground, yet with its fabulous canalside architecture, wealth of quirky bars and some of Belgium’s most fascinating museums, this is a city you really won’t want to miss’ (Lonely Planet). After an academic career and being a teacher for some years, I now am the proud owner of my own coffee bar “Café Labath”. I'm spending a great deal of my time on my passion for coffee and hospitality. Doing sports, traveling, reading and riding my motorbike are some other things I love. At this point I have expanded the business to the point that we follow up on the entire chain from coffee tree to cup. I'm spending a lot of time in Colombia, where I visit local farmers in order to get the best coffee for the coffee bar. I used to travel quite adventurously myself. I still cherish these memorable moments of spontaneous hospitality and I take this as starting point to treat my guests. After an academic career and years in education, I have been the proud owner of the coffee house “Café Labath” in Ghent since 2011. My passion for coffee and hospitality takes up most of my time, but I also like to exercise, read and ride motorcycles. I've done some adventurous trips, and the travel microbe still hasn't let go. In the meantime, I spend a lot of time in Colombia, looking for “Direct Trade” coffee there. By building good ties with local farmers, I can import the tastiest coffees for the coffee bar. I still cherish the memorable moments of spontaneous hospitality on my travels. I keep that hospitality in mind when hosting my guests.
