The Space

Make your lodging as unique as New Orleans itself. The Villa Veidt is located in the Faubourg Marigny, just blocks from New Orleans' famous French Quarter. Formerly the residence of entertainer Viola Veidt, this large two bedroom apartment is filled with art, antiques and memorabilia from her fascinating life. This was Miss Veidt,s original New Orleans apartment .The daughter of international movie star Conrad Veidt (Major Strasser in Casablanca), Miss Veidt knew many of the famous and infamous personalities of the twentieth century including Tennessee Williams, whose Duncan Street compound in Key West was her home for many years. She was also a friend of Jimmy Buffet and is mentioned in the liner notes for "Barometer Soup" While maintaining the original warmth and eclectic style of the apartment, we have added modern amenities such as central heat and air, flat screen television , and wireless Internet connection . You will be within easy walking distance of the French Quarter, the riverfront streetcar and the Frenchmen Street entertainment district. We also have The Villa Viola, this is the same building, same floorplan.

  • James was always accessible. Whenever I contacted him he would always respond very quickly. The apartment was located close to the French Market, an easy walk. There is also a wonderful market around the corner and a eclectic café that we enjoyed. The neighborhood was pleasant and we felt safe and at ease.

  • The apartment was ideal for a long weekend in NOLA. On a cute street in the Marigny, you can walk easily into the center of town (via Frenchmans Street) or into my favourite neighbourhood: Bywater. So many great cafes, restaurants and bars to choose from - Flora and Orange Couch both within spitting distance to pick up a coffee and muffin in the morning. Music was in the air wherever you walked. James Henry was helpful and friendly, and the apartment was clean and charming.

  • This is the third time we stayed at James' apartment. It is a short walking distance to the French Quarter and very close to Frenchmen Street.
The apartment is spacious, clean, and quite comfortable. James is a cordial host and easy to reach if needed.

  • The location of this place is amazing. The neighborhood is very beautiful and quiet, yet very close to the French Quarter (8 min walk to Frenchmen Street). There are lots of cozy places to have breakfast close by.

The apartment itself was spacious enough for our group of five girls. It is well equipped (wifi, kitchen with everything you need and free coffee on top of it, bathroom with towels, hair dryer). Would definitely stay there again.

  • We enjoyed four fabulous days in James' apartment in the Marigny. The home was clean, fully stocked and comfortable for 4 of us- even with one on the couch! Great, less touristy neighborhood, with hidden gems everywhere, and still a short walk from Frenchman St & the French Quarter.
Full, usable kitchen was a lovely amenity (although unused, food in NOLA is too good!). Would certainly stay here again!

  • We had a wonderful stay at James' home. You can't beat the location. The neighborhood is fantastic -- you can quickly walk to the French Quarter and Bywater. We will be back!

  • James Henry's place was amazing. It was cute, cozy and perfect for 5 people. The neighborhood was great and walking distance from so much! It's the perfect place to stay if you want to be somewhere quiet and artsy, but close enough to bars and restaurants.

James made it so easy to get the keys and was very flexible. He also responded quickly to any questions I had. Overall, we had a great experience with James and I would definitely stay there again if I make it back to New Orleans.

  • This is a great half a house in a most excellent neighborhood and James is an excellent and responsive host. We are veteran house swappers and airbnb-ers all over the world and this house is very comfortable with the kitchen basics, good bedding and plenty of high quality towels. The key is available in a lock box, so no hassles about meeting up for keys. We had a problem with an overflowing toilet (no one's fault) and James had it fixed quickly while we were out and the floor was mopped and wet towels were removed to boot.

The location is excellent. We're not into touristy, so although it's walking distance (a good walk) to the Quarter, we spent our time exploring the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods and on Frenchman Street for the music and it's a 5 minute walk to Frenchman and in the perfect location for the Marigny and Bywater. Great 24-hour grocer a half block away (although low on produce) and steps from some great, friendly bars, which are not usually our scene: Mimi's, Schiro's and more. Go - you'll love it!
