Perfect home base for your Bay Area adventures! Your room has queen size bed, empty drawers for unpacking, closet space, & small desk. Enjoy access to a PRIVATE bathroom & common areas (living room, porch, & fully equipped chef's kitchen). Street parking is easy & free (read signs for street cleaning to avoid ticketing); Bart is .9 mile walk (be in downtown SF in 20 mins); within walking distance: cafes, eateries, shopping, pharmacy, artisanal cheese shop, gluten free bakery & farmer's market.

The space

Our house is huge & we love sharing it! I take pride in every detail to make the space feel beautiful, clean, inspiring, & exceptionally comfortable (see all reviews). There is space in your room for you to unpack & dedicated cabinets and shelves in the fridge for your food, so that you feel as 'at home' as you can. As a guest on Airbnb I know what makes me feel 'at home' when I'm traveling; I strive to provide even more than that for you.

There is a separate bathroom for use only by AirBNB guests.

I will interact with you as little or as much as you like. The house is spacious enough for you to carve our your own space. I love getting to know other people and will be happy to help you with anything you need regarding restaurant tips, public transportation options, cafes etc, but I also respect that you might be on a solo journey. I'll take my cue from you!

We are walking distance to the Temescal District of Oakland which is flourishing with shops, restaurants, cafes, bars; a post office, pharmacy, produce shop with plenty of organic, gluten free, and allergy friendly options, and taqueria. Easy access to Bart means that in 20 minutes you can be in Downtown San Francisco; easy access to the Freeway means that in one hour you can be wine tasting, exploring the Pacific, hiking in Redwoods, biking, camping, kayaking, surfing, and more.

MacArthur Bart (frequent trains) to Downtown San Francisco, the Oakland Airport, and San Francisco Airport is a 15 minute walk (if you amble); 5 minute drive; and 8 minute bike ride away; there are buses and cabs that connect from there to our house. Freeway access is close and means you can be headed out of town to hike or explore in no time; the redwoods are an 8 minute drive away. On Sunday there is a Farmers Market with fresh produce, pasture raised meats, and flowers. We have the best of all worlds.

We get asked a lot about safety.
Our neighborhood looks gritty in places, but is safe. We've never had a problem in 7+ years of living in Oakland. That said, we advise all our guests to keep alert and conscientious when walking around (as you would in any urban area).
Take a cab if you're coming home very late from the city, and/or park at the Bart station ($2.50/day) so you have your car.

Other things to note

1. 14% of the fees is paid to the City of Oakland as transient occupancy tax.

3. We have a baby! He usually sleeps through the night. On the occasions that he doesn't, we attend to him before he truly cries, so the chances of you waking up are slim. Nonetheless, we provide earplugs and a small white noise machine to help you get a great night of sleep no matter what.

Ariyele, Jeff, and Baby Lian were such warm, inviting and gracious hosts. My daughter Bella and I had a wonderful stay. I truly recommend their place for anyone. I was delighted to find out we had parking in the driveway. I definitely plan to request a stay with them in the future.

I recently got a job in the Bay Area and wanted to do Airbnb so I could get to know the area before finding a home. Boy did I hit the jackpot finding Ariyele and Jeff. They were such incredible hosts and made the transition from LA to the Bay Area easier for me. Such an amazing stay and such wonderful humans. I've found lifetime friends, for sure.

Everything was as described. Ariyele, Jeff, and Baby Lian were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. We stayed for 2 weeks and there was space in the room to unpack and in the kitchen for our food and snacks. The room and bathroom are towards the front of the house, making the visitors space convenient for coming and going without disrupting the family. They provided us with a parking space and gave us great recommendations for the area. Coffee and tea for the morning were provided. We would definitely stay there again!

Ariyele, Jeff, and their adorable baby Lian are the best hosts! They considered everything for me (e.g. the safest and fastest public transportation routes to and from Berkeley, a list of Cafes and restaurants that I may enjoy, etc.) even before I arrived. Just to give you an idea of how considerate Ariyele was: she prepared three different types of coffee makers for the guest, to accommodate the different needs of her guests from different countries. For those of you who are concerned about the baby, Lian is the sweetest child I've ever met, and it's sometimes hard to believe that he's not even two years old. I stayed with Ariyele's family for almost two weeks, and Lian never once woke me up at night. He smiles like an angel every time he sees you, and he already knows how to respect personal boundaries. The neighborhood is actually safe, quiet, and convenient. I don't drive, but there's a bus stop one block away, and it's super cheap to use uber to go to the Bart station. It is also a lot safer than I expected, definitely one of the best neighborhoods in Oakland. Ariyele and Jeff are super friendly and they are both very sophisticated and nice. I had a lot of great conversations with Ariyele, she's absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed my stay with Ariyele, Jeff, and Lian, and will recommend them to everyone who's visiting/just moved to SF.

Ariyele & Jeff were extremely welcoming and friendly, the room we stayed at was really cozy and equipped with everything a traveler needs. My wife and I stayed there for 3 weeks while transitioning into our new home and I can honestly say they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. If you are lucky enough to be their guests, you're in for a treat! Thank you Ariyele, Jeff & baby Lian!

Ariyele and Jeff were most helpful with information before I arrived to CA. Their space was exactly as advertised. The location was perfect for my visit to my daughter at UC Berkeley and for discovering GREAT restaurants and cozy neighborhoods within walking distance. The bed was very comfortable and the room spacious enough. The private bath was basic but everything worked just fine. While there is a highway nearby, for a light sleeper such as myself, it wasn't (too) disruptive. I only noticed noise but it wasn't enough to keep me from sleeping. A&J were accommodating with allowing me to park my little rental car in the small driveway and the check in and out couldn't have been easier. Ariyele offered great ideas of where to eat nearby.

Ariyele and Jeff (and baby) were awesome. Clean house, great hospitality, and fun conversations. We couldn't have asked for much more. If it weren't for the fact that we will soon be living in the Oakland area, we definitely would have been back. Amazing hosts

Ariyele, Jeff, & Baby Lian User Profile

Ciao! I'm Ariyele, an artist, poet/writer, food photographer, gluten free YouTube cooking show creator, comedienne, and hopeful world traveler (originally from New York). Jeff is a writer, white water paddler, musician, and book lover (from North Carolina). Together we have a son Lian, who is growing like a weed and loves milk. He's a happy baby.

For us as hosts, Airbnb is more than just a way to make extra cash. We genuinely love meeting and connecting with new people, sharing our passion for where we live (both our home and the area), and offering phenomenal hospitality. We strive for the kind of care that one reads about in Greek mythology when someone stumbling at your doorstep could be a god in disguise :)

As guests, we are so grateful to have the freedom and flexibility that Airbnb offers, and we aim to leave your place exactly as we found it. I've been known to actually do light cleaning before heading out so as to make your job as a host easier ;)

Our lifestyle in CA includes the best of both nature adventures and culture experiences. We love cooking with local ingredients, eating delicious food from recommended haunts, playing with our son, gardening, and enjoy all of CA's amazing vistas.

If you choose to stay with us, we plan to take care of you.
If you accept our request, we'll be kind, generous, and respectful of your home and its rules.

Ciao!
