Our 2 story casita sits 30 feet away from our primary residence in a private gated community. The first floor consists of kitchen, living area and balcony, downstairs is the bedroom w/queen bed, bathroom, and balcony. Futon available upstairs.
Small but comfortable and very tranquil..views of forest and jungle, wildlife!
Washer and dryer located in the main residence..also, custom spa available.
We have a wonderful maid, Maria, who cleans for us once a week..if you would like her to do any cleaning and/or laundry, let us know..no additional cost, perhaps maybe a small tip for Maria!
Interaction with Guests
We love to interact with our guests, and provide information on what we know about this beautiful country! That said, we do respect our guests right to privacy and will be available only when and if you need us!
We live in a gated community with limited traffic and noise; located up on a mountainside, the climate tends to be a little cooler, and you will most likely see Toucans, parrots, the occasional whiteface monkey, the very timid and elusive jaguarundi and coatimundis.
We are located fairly close to town, but a car is always recommended. One of us normally goes into town each day and can give a ride downtown..this has worked out well for many of our guests who then take a taxi back..taxis are readily available and quite inexpensive. There is also a bus station in town, and a bus ride to San Jose will cost less than $2!
Other Things to Note
We have 3 dogs and 2 cats so it helps to be an animal lover..we will make sure, however, that they won't pester you!
No smoking inside of house; please note that while the cost-of living here is still quite reasonable, electricity and water are not...please try to conserve!!
Diane's place is just beautiful and so much bigger than we thought. Two floors with two decks, all decorated with much love. And the view is just wonderful. We found it especially nice that Diane provided us with lots of information upfront to make sure we get there alright and Cameron came to pick us up in Atenas - and honestly otherwise we would not have found the house. It is a little remote but thus so quiet. The house is equipped with everything one needs. All very clean and nice. We would have loved to stay longer - maybe next time. We highly recommend this place.
My experience at this casita with Diane and her family in Atenas went as I had expected and as hoped it would. Everybody was very pleasant and willing to help. I arrived in Atenas via the bus system from San Jose Airport. Cameron picked me up at the bus station and took me to the grocery store to get a few things before going to the casita. It is technically low season now in Costa Rica, but it did not rain at all while I was in Atenas, which made it even more pleasant to sit out on the deck and enjoy the lush greenery. It is considerably less humid in this part of the country than way south and comfortable with the windows and doors open to let a nice breeze come through.
The casita itself is well crafted for this climate and well equipped with all the modern conveniences you would need and yet far removed from the town itself so you feel nature all around you as you walk the grounds or sit on one of the two decks. It is in a very safe gated community, but maintains it own space that is far apart from neighbors with a lot of privacy.
We highly recommend this casita! Our trip to Costa Rica was enhanced by staying at this wonderful place in a green spot, adjacent to the owners' home so quite secure. Diane, her husband and their daughter were beyond helpful with directions and advise about places to see that fit our interests. The casita was clean and well-furnished, with WiFi, TV and maid service. We stayed for a month and have no regrets about choosing this place or town. Atenas Canton is centrally located so we could easily drive to either the Pacific or Caribbean as well as visit other communities north and south. The climate was near perfect with higher altitude breezes, warm days and cool nights.
Thank you, Judith!! Cameron, Jocelyn and I enjoyed having you and Mel as our guests! You are both a delightful and interesting couple, and we certainly got spoiled with Mel's gourmet cooking!! We hope to see you both again on your next visit to Paradise!!
Retired, living in Costa Rica, with my husband and adult daughter; originally, my husband and I are from Southern California and moved to San Luis Obispo mid 70's where our twin daughters were born..we retired to Costa Rica in 2009, but my other daughter stayed behind to pursue her college career..Jocelyn, my daughter living with us, is an artist, and does amazing paintings, of the local wildlife, birds, trees, flowers, waterfalls etc! We love the latin culture, music and art, and have travelled to Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua and Cuba..also to Bahamas, Jamaica Hawaii and Europe, but LOVE where we settled in Costa Rica!! Since we live on the property, we are available to help with anything you may need! Our goal is to ensure you enjoy your stay, and the lovely tranquil surroundings..Pura Vida!
