Our stay was truly wonderful, the cottage is beautiful and very charismatic. The photo of the view of Lough Derg does not do the breathtaking view from the sun room justice, as it is stunning no matter what the weather. The night with the super moon was especially glorious.
The cottage itself was clean and well equipped and it felt homely and very family friendly. It was lovely to sit in the room with the wood burner and cuddle up in front of the telly and it was just as nice to have a glass of wine in the sun room taking in the magnificent view.
I don't know if it's mentioned in the profile but there is a dolmen within easy walking distance from the cottage and the view from there is pretty spectacular too. As Mairead said, the air up there really is "champagne air".
Mountshannon is a lovely little village and the bathing area at the harbour was great for kids. The park with it's kiddie playground and maze was really good too.
Mountshannon is a great base for exploring East Clare and in particular you're close to Portumna, Feakle, Killaloe/Ballina and Toomgraney (Brian Boru country).
Mairead (the host) was so welcoming, explaining all about the house and the area and she made a big impression on our kids!
