Interaction with Guests
We LOVE to chat with our guests, but also understand when people are looking for a private retreat. We live in the main house and spend a lot of time on our back porch and in the yard. Come talk to us and visit whenever you want. Or ask our girls to sing for you, do a gymnastics routine, or put on a theatrical play. They love the attention!
What do we love most about our neighborhood? The fact that we have a HUGE lot so close to downtown. It's like having a little bit of the country in the city.
We live a couple blocks away from bus line #20, which goes directly into downtown. It's about a 10 minute ride to the UT campus. 15 minutes to the heart of downtown. Our buses are equipped with bicycle racks too!
We have plenty of parking available if you have your own car, which I highly recommend to guests who want to see all that Austin has to offer.
1. We LOVE pets, but please leave yours at home.
2. Speaking of pets, please enjoy ours while you are here.
3. Smoking (cigarettes, folks; not the special stuff) is okay as long as it happens outside and not in the trailer.
4. Although we want you, the guests, to enjoy the trailer and our yard as much as you can, please ask us before inviting others to join you.
5. Stay up as late as you want, but please keep it quiet after 10 pm. We want our neighbors to continue liking us. :)
Wonderful & responsive people. Charming cottage. Peaceful backyard. Scrumptious toffee.
We loved our stay in Austin! Marcella and family were so welcoming and provided a beautiful space that we didn't want to leave. The homemade toffee is incredible too :)
If you're in need of lodging in Austin, we can't recommend highly enough staying at Marcella's Garden Cottage (or her air stream, which has it's own airbnb page). She a gracious host and her property is just magical. We hope to be back soon!
Driving up to the house, you are greeted with string lights on a wooden fence with the view of the adorable stone wall home. Once you enter the backyard, it's like you escape into a bohemian oasis. When first opening the door to the cottage, I was just taken aback by how bohemian and vintage the place was. From the shutter/door ceiling to the vintage coffee table and toaster oven this place screamed comfort and relaxation. The soft lighting and heater in the bathroom made the stay cozy. The mattress on the bed made me not want to get up in the morning! I could not recommend this place more highly! The book that the host left on the desk describing their family and why they host is phenomenal.
The place is just as it looks online, very adorable and cozy. We needed to change our plans and they took us in a day early on VERY short notice. It was raining extremely hard, which caused a roof leak. As soon as we informed her, she fixed it immediately to ensure we were dry and comfortable. Great hosts.
Marcella's garden cottage was every bit as adorable as the photo and I felt incredibly comfortable there! The bed was so cozy and I slept very deeply. I loved visiting with and photographing the chickens, cats, dogs - and especially the PIG! Despite the "Beware of Pig" sign on their gate, the pig is soooo adorable, and actually quite friendly. ;) I got a bit teary-eyed as I read the book Marcella and her partner had left on the desk, telling their beautiful, personal story, too. And the candy they made was delicious, and I ate it all. :)
When my Lyft driver first took me to their place from the airport, it seemed initially like we were leaving town. I think I was skeptical only because my driver was questioning where we were going and I started second-guessing about whether or not I had the correct address. Then, we reentered some civilization and quickly made it to their place. It absolutely makes sense that they are not right in the center of town, though, considering they have a little, urban farm of sorts. I actually found it easy to get a Lyft to and from their place rather than renting a car.
I didn't get the chance to meet the family; our schedules just didn't align. I'm quite sure they are great people and I would've enjoyed them very much!

Hi! My name is Marcella. Here's a little about me:
1) I have an amazing partner, Meredith, and an ever fluctuating number of kids living with us.
2) The reason why the number of kids changes is because we are foster parents.
3) Being a foster mom is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done.
4) I began hosting on airbnb as a way to supplement our income and allow me to stay home with our kiddos.
5) I'm so glad I did, because I LOVE being an airbnb host!
6) When I have some free time, I love to garden or putter around outside doing projects.
7) I love animals but never expected to have quite so many.
8) I also never expected to be washing so much laundry as an adult. :)
9) I make really good English Toffee.
10) I always share some of my toffee with guests. :)
