Interaction with Guests
We LOVE to chat with our guests, but also understand when people are looking for a private retreat. We live in the main house and spend a lot of time on our back porch and in the yard. Come talk to us and visit whenever you want. Or ask our girls to sing for you, do a gymnastics routine, or put on a theatrical play. They love the attention!
What do we love most about our neighborhood? The fact that we have a HUGE lot so close to downtown. It's like having a little bit of the country in the city.
We live a couple blocks away from bus line #20, which goes directly into downtown. It's about a 10 minute ride to the UT campus. 15 minutes to the heart of downtown. Our buses are equipped with bicycle racks too!
We have plenty of parking available if you have your own car, which I highly recommend to guests who want to see all that Austin has to offer.
1. We LOVE pets, but please leave yours at home.
2. Speaking of pets, please enjoy ours while you are here.
3. Smoking (cigarettes, folks; not the special stuff) is okay as long as it happens outside and not in the trailer.
4. Although we want you, the guests, to enjoy the trailer and our yard as much as you can, please ask us before inviting others to join you.
5. Stay up as late as you want, but please keep it quiet after 10 pm. We want our neighbors to continue liking us. :)
This adorable cottage has everything you could need -- plus a ton of character! The hosts are lovely and accommodating. I highly recommend the garden cottage, and it's well-priced for the quality and location.
The place was really nice, my sister and I liked the ceiling made of re-purposed doors. Marcella was a very gracious host and her pets were very friendly.
The cottage was clean, tidy, and well appointed, many thoughtful little extras, and the surrounding and the animals were fun. My wife's first action was to befriend the little pig, which lives with the chickens in an enclosure by the gate.
Being in the cottage with its ceiling of varied door panels, the maps, the prints, books and cool things is a little like living in a Pinterest board!
Peaceful, cosy, clean, and friendly, we recommend it.
This was an incredible Airbnb location! Marcella and her family are such wonderful hosts. The Garden Cottage is comfortable, decorated delightfully, and true to the description. Marcella was very quick to respond anytime I had questions and truly makes sure that guests are well taken care of.
The garden area outside of the cottage was beautiful. I enjoyed spending time reading in the chairs outside of the cottage, walking in the garden, and photographing the flowers and sweet animals that live on the property.
The Garden Cottage is well set up with nice lighting, a mini-fridge, microwave, glasses, and the list of positive elements goes on. There was a cool pitcher of fresh water waiting in the fridge, towels, delicious toffee, a delightful guest book and information book, and the space was so very welcoming. Also, the bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in while on a vacation!
I truly have no complaints about this location and would absolutely recommend Marcella and the Garden Cottage location. If you would like a relaxing location to stay on vacation or retreat this is a wonderful place to stay.
Really enjoyed our stay at the Garden Cottage. The accommodation was beautifully decorated and after a long flight, the delicious homemade toffee was very much welcome! The bed was super comfy, too. We loved the cute animals - although Shiner has grown a bit since the picture of him on here was taken! The cottage is a 15min drive from Downtown so is like a little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In fact, you'd never guess you were near it! We didn't have a car during our stay but I'd definitely recommend one for ease of getting around. The local buses are nice and cheap (they won't accept any notes over $5 - be warned) but we found them to be a bit hit and miss so ended up spending a lot of money on cabs. Marcella and Meredith were great hosts though and we found their guide/Bucket List of Austin invaluable! Thank you both for opening your home to us :)

About the Host, Marcella
Hi! My name is Marcella. Here's a little about me:
1) I have an amazing partner, Meredith, and an ever fluctuating number of kids living with us.
2) The reason why the number of kids changes is because we are foster parents.
3) Being a foster mom is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done.
4) I began hosting on airbnb as a way to supplement our income and allow me to stay home with our kiddos.
5) I'm so glad I did, because I LOVE being an airbnb host!
6) When I have some free time, I love to garden or putter around outside doing projects.
7) I love animals but never expected to have quite so many.
8) I also never expected to be washing so much laundry as an adult. :)
9) I make really good English Toffee.
10) I always share some of my toffee with guests. :)
