Mariposa Retreat Suite ~ Keys Life
Mariposa meditation room w. VIEW
Mariposa Retreat-Wilderness Camp1
We were planning a trip to the Florida Keys to tag onto a work event in Boca Raton this spring. After we started looking we discovered it was spring break week, and due to limited availability in Key West, high rates, and visions of drinking college students roaming the streets of Key West (which turned out to be accurate), we decided we probably would not go. Until my niece suggested checking on Airbnb. We were so excited when we found Mariposa Retreat and booked our stay. But then, when some family members decided to join us, we thought the available adjacent (meditation) room might be too close to ours. I corresponded with Midge about this, and she came up with a number of ideas. The one we chose, was to book the suite along with the living room, in order to give us more space. Although we did not end up using the living room (the weather was nice and we preferred to spend our shared time together outside, on the lovely deck overlooking the water), knowing we had it available allowed us the breathing space to make the plan. I think for groups or families traveling together, this could be a good option, especially if the weather might be questionable. What really impressed me was Midge's willingness and efforts at understanding and accommodating our needs. Knowing this, I would encourage anybody staying there to let Midge and Tom know what you need, in advance of your visit, and while you are staying there as well. For example, there are a variety of bed options for the meditation room, if the blow up air mattress does not work for you. And Midge and Tom loaned us a variety of items we needed, from beach towels and umbrellas, to water bottles and a cooler (but don't assume they will always having these available...just good to know to ask :). Midge and Tom are AWESOME, and we loved staying there. It is so peaceful and beautiful -- the sunsets from the deck are gorgeous, as are the stars and the moon. And while we originally chose to be 30 minutes away from Key West because this seemed like the best choice given Spring Break, it was actually the perfect location and where we would choose to stay should we have the good fortune and opportunity to return to the area. We spent our entire 5 day stay in the Keys at Mariposa Retreat, and are so glad we made this choice. It's the perfect distance from Key West to be able to go back and forth easily enough, and mid-point to other great explorations and excursions we did, based largely on Midge and Tom's expert guidance and suggestions. If you're planning a stay in the Keys, and you like peace, quiet, and wonderful hosts, Mariposa Retreat is the place to stay. And bonus is you can go home with some great gifts for yourself and others. We did, with sea sponges and...
