Great neighborhood. This building is walking distance to everything Chicago has to offer:
Lake Michigan and its beaches
restaurants and bars
state of the art health club
and the el train is just 2 blocks away
We look forward to meeting you!
We had a few days to explore Chicago and this was ideal. Close walkin distance to the main central attractions. We had five adults and found it comfortable although it is tired and could do with a redecoration but for the money it was good value for central Chicago. We had trouble with the wifi but that was fixed quickly. The owner was helpful throughout from before we flew to the day we left.
Very good apartment,we like it.
We couldn't have asked for a better location! We could walk to all of our family functions in Old Town. Once we parked in Chicago we didn't get back in the car again for 4 days and felt very secure about the vehicle's location. Safe, spacious and comfortable.
The little patio is perfect for breakfast and the other people in the building ( whom we often greeted) were sweet and eclectic.
It is a basement apartment and on a rainy day it can become gloomy, however, for a short action packed vacation it was (website hidden): If JoAnne offers you a boat trip - take it! T'was truly one of the best outings we've ever experienced.
My parents, sister, and niece stayed in this apartments and said they felt comfortable and that it was well suited for their needs.
Joanne was prompt in replying to my communications throughout the booking process and our stay. The location of her building was perfect for our needs and we were able to walk to the Sedgwick El stop, Lincoln Park, North Ave Beach, and Second City during our time there. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet and (bonus points!) you're right across the street from Twin Anchors so you can get some delicious ribs. :)
We stayed in the G level apartment which is in the basement. It was definitely damp smelling every time we entered the apartment so we eventually left the de-humidifier on while we were out. The A/C works great and my whole family was happy to relax inside while it was sweltering outside. It was great having a full kitchen so we could cook and store our leftovers. The beds are very comfortable but the pull-out couch was not as good. We ended up using all the comforters in the house to pad it and it worked out okay then.
Overall it was a good experience and we would stay at Joanne's place again.
We had a fine time at the apartment. Love, love, love the location - it is easy to get anywhere on public transportation and Old Town is lovely. The apartment itself was clean, though a little worn around the edges, and comfortable. JoAnne and Steve were extremely responsive. I would stay there again,
The apartment definitely reflects the description on Airbnb - looks just like the pics. Place was clean, and I found the Lincoln Park area to be fantastic - very close to the El train, many bars nearby, 10 minute walk to a grocery/liquor store, and 4 minute walk to convenience store. Overall, a great place to stay and I would recommend.
My main complaints are that 1) the air conditioning didn't seem to be working (although it is a basement apartment, so it wasn't too hot) 2) there wasn't enough toilet paper to last our entire weekend and 3) there was a mix-up in communication with the check-out. To expand on that last point, I had talked to the landlord several days prior to our stay explaining we had a late flight, and we were told that staying late would be fine, and that we would be notified if that changed. However on the day we were leaving, JoAnne arrived at the apartment and informed us (very nice and politely) that we needed to leave. It didn't end up being a big inconvenience for us, but I would have greatly appreciated better communication.
JoAnne was helpful in changing our stay at the last minute to a place with 2 bedrooms instead of just one, due to considerations on our part. The neighborhood of the Old Town property - 1726 N. Sedgwick - was terrific. However the property itself is overpriced and undermaintained. It cost $325/night (includes Airbnb service fee) and just wasn't in good enough shape to command that price. What they call a "garden apartment" is a basement with no windows, only a sliding glass door, no screen. Incredibly humid. The dehumidifier filled up 3 times each day. This is a very damp apartment. The front door lock has been broken, tough to deal with. The "patio" is very small, junky, algae covered. The main bedroom is stuffy, no ventilation. The chest of drawers are dangerous - the drawers should not be pulled out very far; they can fall out easily; a cheap piece of furniture. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows have seen their day. Bathroom is okay, shower worked well, lots of water. Sliding glass door only partially covered by cheap curtains. Kitchen in good shape, but we didn't use it. Refrigerator in good shape, but ice maker not connected; bag of ice in freezer was good idea. In summary: a damp basement needing some attention in a terrific location.
Have to agree with other reviewers. The neighborhood location is great, but the unit is overpriced and shabby. The pictures are deceptive - the private looking patio was a muddy, bug infested entryway off the front street. Maintenance is poor with several items not working. Supposedly handles six people, but supplies are stretched for four. We are used to staying in vacation rentals and this was the worst conditions we've stayed in for the price.
Overall, the place was sufficient for our needs (my husband and I, our toddler, and 2 dogs). It's in a very nice little neighborhood and we enjoyed walking around the area. The place itself was fine - small but cute, and we really weren't there that much as we had a lot of activities planned. However I'd second some of the feedback from other reviews - there weren't any garbage bags or paper towels left for us, and only one roll of toilet paper. The sheets on the bed were still wet when we got into bed the first night (although I was happy I knew they had been cleaned). I'm still unsure if the air conditioning worked - we had it cranked down to 60 degrees and we were still sweating. We also were not left any parking passes initially, so had to pay for several nights of parking at a structure half a mile away. JoAnne did however have someone drop some off eventually. We always appreciate privacy when we go away, and we definitely got that from JoAnne - that said, we also would have appreciated a bit more guidance. We had no idea about the parking situation until we got there and also had no checkout instructions so we just straightened up to the best of our ability before we left.
