Thank you for your interest in our beautiful home. Our traditional Victorian house was built in 1890, and we welcome guests to come and stay with us.
The large double bedroom is light and spacious and has everything you will need for your stay here. The bedroom has been completely redecorated within the last 6 months, keeping all of its original Victorian features. You will be sleeping in a luxurious antique walnut double bed, with a very comfortable orthopedic memory foam mattress, and luxury duck feather bedding. The room has two side tables, a vintage Singer sewing machine dressing table, and an antique walnut chest of drawers where you can store your clothes.
Included in the price of your room is:
- Fresh bed linen
- Fresh towels
There is room on the floor for an air bed (which we can provide), which can accommodate a third guest if required.
In addition to your bedroom, you will have full access to the communal rooms in the house; dining/living room, kitchen, bathroom, study and garden.
The kitchen has everything you need throughout your stay; oven, kettle, microwave, toaster, fridge, all utensils. You are also welcome to help yourself to complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate, milk, cereals and all basic food items. You can also use the washing machine and dryer as you please.
If you need to work during your stay here, we have a newly refurbished study room you are welcome to use. The study has an old reclaimed school desk where you are free to work.
The Living/Dining Room
The living/dining room has a TV/DVD player and speaker system you are free to use. We have a wood burning stove that you can relax in front of. We have a newly upcycled farmhouse table and chairs where you are welcome to eat/work. We also have a set of vintage chesterfield sofas where you can relax.
The bathroom is also newly refurbished; there is a brand-new, Victorian-style wash basin, toilet and bath/shower, complete with Victorian fittings and instant, unlimited hot water. We can also provide you with any toiletries if you forget to bring your own.
Finally, we have a beautiful south-facing garden which is nice to use in the summer months. There is an antique cast-iron table where you can eat and relax. We also have a Weber BBQ you are free to use. We also grow our own herbs which you are welcome to help yourself to when cooking (summer only).
Due to its close proximity to the University/Hospital, parking your car in this area can be difficult. Let us know if you are planning on bringing a car, we have off-street parking but may need to arrange a permit for your car.
Interaction with Guests
You will be sharing our house with me, my boyfriend, our house rabbit and our dog. Our dog stays outside when we are out and is restricted to downstairs only. In addition we also have a lodger in one of the other bedrooms.
We have been travelling around Europe using Airbnb and find the concept fantastic, we like meeting new people and have met interesting people, and had interesting conversations and experiences through our time using Airbnb. For this reason we recently decided it would be a great idea to start using Airbnb as hosts. So far it has been a fantastic experience and we haven't looked back! We have hosted people from all over the world and have even been invited to come and stay at our guests homes! We like to interact with our guests and make them feel comfortable, like a home from home. We also understand that people like their own space, in this respect we adapt to our guests needs.
Our Victorian terrace is perfectly situated for anybody temporarily visiting The University of Birmingham or the Queen Elizabeth (QE) Hospital. We are directly opposite the QE hospital, it’s a one minute walk to get there (cross over the road), The University of Birmingham campus is a five minute walk. Our place is also very close to Birmingham city centre. The University train station is a five minute walk away and can take you directly to Birmingham city centre (6 minute train ride). There is also a bus stop outside of our house which can take you to Birmingham city centre or other surrounding areas.
Our place is located in the heart of Harborne, Birmingham, a lovely small town very close to Birmingham city centre (4 miles). With its proximity to the Hospital and University, Harborne is predominantly dominated by young professionals, academics and familys. It’s a great village to live in, the high street is full of great pubs and independent shops. The house is a ten minute walk from Harborne high street itself, which has two small supermarkets, charity shops, and a number of nice independent shops, restaurants and places to go for tea/coffee. The high street also has a number of pubs/bars, our favourites are The Junction and The Plough, The Plough is very popular and has won awards for its brunches and coffee.

I was made to feel very welcome by Josh and Ellis, lots of little touches, like a welcome note on the door that made me feel like a friend rather than just a guest.
Very helpful with any questions, well organised and prepared. Beautiful property and close to all local amenities. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again!
There is a friendly and familiar atmosphere, I really reccomend it! The house is really nice and it's a perfect accomodation if you want to be close to the Hospital or University, and it's only 5 minutes by train to the city centre. Ellis and Josh are very Kind and helpful and I really felt at home during my stay! I hope to vist you again!
We stayed for 5 nights and felt very wellcome. Ellis and Josh are good hosts.
The house is like the announce, very nice, very clean, all well arranged, full of details of good taste and quality.
The owners are nice and quiet people, they do their own life and let you do yours.
Excellent room, wonderful kitchen, good toilet with very hot shower.
The only thing is that the room was a little cold for me, not worm enough.
The location is not good but not so bad as well, the train is not too far, about 10 min walk, you have trains very often and from early morning to late night. But Sundays morning there are no trains until 10 o'clock, so you have to plan an alternative if you need to move in the early morning on Sunday, like me.
If you need to stay near the university is highly recommended. And if you will be around New Street Station there is a very good and easy connection as well.
Anyway I had a very good experience at Ellis and Josh House.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thanks for the kind words about our home. We have spare electric heaters available if you're cold and you were perfectly welcome to override the central heating settings, both of which were stated together with instructions in the welcome pack. We feel sad that you didn't say anything so we could sort it out for you!!!
And yes you are right, the location is not so good for your daily commute to the NEC but is excellent for the university and hospital, and a short train ride to the city centre. The trains do not run until 9.30am on Sundays because nothing opens until 11am and subsequently the trains run reduced services. Buses still run on Sundays from 7.15am from the hospital opposite our house, this was also in the welcome pack.
Thank you for staying and thanks for offering your advice when we arrive in Barcelona in a few months!
Take care, Ellis and Josh
Ellis and Josh's home is as beautiful as it looks in the photos! I had a lovely stay and was really made to feel at home by my hosts. The room is spacious and comfortable and the location was perfect for me: couldn't be closer to the hospital, and also close to the local train station. Perfect!
