About this listing
Enjoy an easy life in this casita tucked away on the grounds of an old hacienda! A 10 minute flat walk to the jardin, it is close enough to enjoy the activities of centro, yet it offers you the peace and quiet of its beautiful garden.
The casita will become your retreat after a busy day in the centro. It is nestled in a fragrant garden where cacti mix with mediterranean plants. As it is our second home, you will find it comfortably furnished, lovingly decorated and fully-equipped. A two-story window brings light into the living-room and offers a view into the common garden. The dining-room area faces the patio where comfortable chairs and a fountain await. The kitchen is actually a place where you can cook, complete with small appliances, a profusion of utensils, pots and pans. One bedroom and bathroom are located on the first floor while the other bedroom and its bathroom are located on the second floor. They are each furnished with a queen-size bed. The study is a great place to work, read, do your art projects or yoga! It opens onto a sunny patio where that second cup of tea or coffee tastes better.
We have reliable wi-fi internet, cable TV with about 100 channels both in Spanish and English and a DVD player with dozens of movies.
There is a washer and dryer if you choose to do your laundry.
The housekeeper will come two hours twice a week to clean and water the plants.
Your car will be safe in the gated parking lot, a real luxury in San Miguel.
Someone is always on the premises: a gardener attends to the common grounds during the day and a watchman is in attendance at night.
Interaction with Guests
Veronica, our property manager will welcome you, hand you the keys and answer all your questions. We will keep in touch as well to make sure that your stay goes as smoothly as possible.
We are two minutes away from La Fabrica Aurora, five minutes away from the market and ten (real!) minutes away from the Jardin, the heart of the city. You will be able to enjoy the many fiestas for which San Miguel is famous, yet you should sleep soundly at night. The bells, the dogs and the traffic are at a distance.
Our neighbours are a mix of Mexicans, Americans and Canadians who love their peace and quiet. Some are artists, most are retired. They will welcome you in their community if you feel like it or will leave you alone if that is what you need.
The cultural life in this gorgeous colonial town is amazing. You can watch the latest movies at the Pocket Theatre, listen to a classical concert at St. Paul's Church, attend a lecture at la Biblioteca, go to an art show or simply chill in one of the many courtyard restaurants.
You don't need a car in San Miguel as everything is close by. Walking on the cobblestones will keep you fit! A bus ride is 5 pesos and a cab, anywhere in the city, will cost 30 pesos during the day and 35 pesos after 10:00 pm.

A friend and I just spent a week at Casita Santa Maria, where we found the house to have all that we wanted -- tranquility, comfort and good taste. The house is beautifully decorated and well set up for a long stay. The property manager, Veronica, was most accommodating and helpful, as was Lorena, the housekeeper. Pascale was quick to answer questions. What we also enjoyed was the extraordinary garden, lush and green in August, and the setting on the grounds of an old hacienda. There is good security, as the community is gated and there is a night watchman. We were glad to not be close to the Jardin, as there was no noise day or night. La Fabrica Aurora is right around the corner, and Ignacio Martinez mercado was a short walk away for groceries. For us, it was an ideal situation, and we loved the house.
The Casita Santa Maria is a beautiful townhome in San Miguel with a lot of Mexican character. The layout worked well for our group of 3, with two of us staying in the upstairs bedroom. Everything we wanted was provided-drinking water, a well stocked kitchen, comfortable furniture,a charming courtyard, pretty garden area, tv's (tried not to watch!), and great Mexican atmosphere. We would've loved to be slightly closer in to the Jardin, but we knew going in that it would be a 10-15 minute walk. We highly recommend this property and the owners.
We had a great time in SMA. This home was well located in great walking distance to El Centro. It was a comfortable home and we appreciated the extra space provided in the 2 office spaces.
The Casita on Calzada de la Presa was a perfect fit for me and my two college daughters. The pictures do not capture the artistic beauty of the cottage There are almost three levels with plenty of space for work, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Every art piece and piece of furniture is tastefully placed. The Casita also has purified drinking water--essential. It is about a 15 minute walk to the center of town through cobble stone streets. Every morning, I ran around the butterfly garden for exercise before heading into town. We loved it!
I confess, I've fallen in love with the Peaceful Casita. All the things that appealed to me in the photos -- the sense of light and color, the lights on both sides of the bed, the outdoor spaces -- far exceeded my expectations. This home represents the true meaning of intelligent design, a house built for comfortable living, with attention to detail (a clever banister trench built into the wall along the spiral staircase, shutters in the master bedroom that can be opened for light and closed for cosiness, lots of space for kitchen life, easy access to the outdoors from everywhere) -- and then furnished in the same spirit, with inventive good taste combined with thoughtfulness. We also were delighted with the office, perfectly set up for two people to catch up on a few bits of work, with easy access to procrastination on the rooftop patio!
Our hosts, the manager Veronica, and cleaning staff Lorena, all showed the same thoughtfulness and care. Pascale stayed in touch and answered questions along the way, generating both confidence that all would be well, and a sense of hospitality and good will that infused our stay; these are hosts I'd like to meet someday! And Veronica, who helped settle us in and eased our stay, is as responsive and capable a manager as one could wish for; when I accidentally browsed off for a tour with both sets of keys in my pocket, locking Alec in the house, she and Lorena quickly materialized to free him, thus saving the day for both of us -- I was able to continue on my excursion, and he was able to meet up with his friends. All done with a generosity of spirit that helped assuage my embarrassment.
In the end, we arranged to stay a day longer than we had booked, simply because we couldn't bear to leave. I would have gladly stayed longer, it would be my first choice of where to stay again.
Thanks so much. You helped make the best days of my vacation!
Our stay was Casita Santa Maria was very pleasant. The photos depict the casita very accurately. Lots of color is spread throughout the home with many local artisan crafts - it really makes this home stand out. Although cozy, the casita makes the most use out of every space. Our group of four slept comfortably, ate relaxing meals in the charming dining room, and relaxed in the patio with the sounds of the casita's very own fountain. Although on vacation, Pascale, was able to communicate with us easily and made sure our accommodation at Casita Santa Maria was ready when we arrived. The casita is secure behind tall hacienda walls and is very quiet at night. The short walk to El Jardin, in the center of San Miguel Allende is great. We would gladly return - hopefully for a longer stay in SMA!
We had a very pleasant time at the house. It is fully equipped and it is set inside a gated hacienda which makes it feel very secure and quiet. There was always immediate communication with the host, Pascale, who was not in town at the time, but we were also well received by the local manager, Veronica, who was very kind and attentive. The place overall is very beautiful, peaceful and functional. We would gladly stay at the Casita again.
About the Host, Pascale
We are Canadian, born in France and Québec.
We fell in love with San Miguel de Allende at first sight and decided that it was a perfect place to spend the winters when we retire. We are now learning Spanish to be able to do volunteer work there. In the meantime, as we are still working, we decided to share our place with like-minded people.
