Jan Sofat is a quiet and secured neighboorhood.
Mornings and evenings are used by many inhabitants to walk the streets for ones health. The Spanisch Water is well known because of the rich and famous living and boating around. For us it is a lovely spot to kayak, to swim, sail or surf....;-)
Please take notice you will need to hire a car. It's really the best way to cross the Island and experience all its specialties.
Shops are in the neighboorhood, but: It is the temperature what makes the distance!
Other Things to Note
To keep the room completely inventarised, it will be very appreciated when in case of an accident please replace it yourself - for not letting us charge you for it ;-)
OH...and remind closing the doors ( dogs) and lights ( bill) - when you are the last in line of coming home....(and the sun is already rising....)
Which means as much as :
...respect one another..that we all have a great time !

@Patricia: Thank you very much for the nice stay!
This home is SO much more beautiful than the photographs could ever tell; it's located at the end of a long lovely road through a tropical gated community, feels extremely secluded and private and the view of the bay is absolutely unparalleled. There's a huge yacht parked at the next house, which makes you feel like a bit of a movie star... and the bay, with mountains in the distance and a beautiful house on an island a rocks throw away, is gorgeous. Hop off the dock for a morning or evening swim or take the kayaks out for a spin, the hosts are more than happy to let you! I spent a ton of time looking at the stars from the hammocks, suspended from beautiful palm trees. Since you're a bit away ( but not too far at ALL!) from the city lights, the stars are amazing and it's blissfully quiet.
Such an amazing refuge, if I ever return to Curacao I'll stay here in a heartbeat. One of the best weekend I've ever spent! Thank you Patricia and Willem.
Patricia and Willem are easy going hosts, but are always there to lend hand with any kind of question. Our stay in their basic but comfortable room was nice, but didn't match our expectations in the field of privacy. Luckily they were also realizing a more private more luxurious apartment on the other side of their home. A change of rooms was no problem and with a little bit of additional pay, we had the privacy and comfort we were looking for with the most amazing view over the water. The room still needs a few items like a curtain for the toilet, some hooks to hang the wet cloths on, but that is work in progress. The outside kitchen was well equipped with a professional BBQ and surprisingly not used by the host family at all, so it felt like our own. The direct access to the water and the use of kayaks at our service and the outside shower made our stay really relaxed and nice. We can definitely recommend staying here. Oh, and because of the nice sea breeze that was there almost all the time, we had no problems with Mosquitos, a definite pro!
Staying at the sea side sleeping room was wonderful! My boyfriend and I visited Curacao for the first time January 2015, we spent 10 days in Curacao, only 5 were at the sea side sleeping room but we wish we had spent the whole time there! Patricia was very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable, the outdoor kitchen was stocked and easy to use, there was plenty of furniture for lounging, there were boats available for paddling around the spanish water and the view was amazing! We had our own refrigerator, coffee maker and bathroom. The internet connection worked great and Patricia provided electrical adapters for a variety of plugs. The room is attached to Patricia's house but we felt like we had plenty of privacy. The house is in a gated community with security guards at the entrance and Patricia's very cute & friendly dogs guard the front gate. We felt incredible safe and secure here. The front gate area is separate from your lounge area so if you don't like dogs, you don't have to worry - you only see them when you come in and out the gate, they have their own space to hangout. Our only complaint was the mosquitoes - we slept with the windows and doors open to enjoy the ocean breeze every night. Patricia provided bug repelling candles and a net to cover your bed but even with these precautions we were bitten quite a bit. It was worth it though! We would definitely recommend this room to anyone visiting Curacao.
Patricia and her family were really nice people; delightful, interesting, down to earth and attentive to our needs. We really enjoyed getting to know them a little.
Their open living courtyard had a large Bar-B-Q table and chairs and mediation bed that was great for lounging anytime. Fortunately where they were located on the Spanish Waters at this time of year there was generally a nice breeze that gave us a respite from the heat and the mosquitos. I have never experienced weather where it is just as stinking hot in the middle of the day as it is in the middle of the night. If the wind dies down the temperature goes up and out come the mosquitos making for a restless night despite a floor fan supplied to help with this issue. Make sure you bring lots of good quality mosquito repellant with you as you will need it every night and almost everywhere on the Island.
You will need a rental car for sure when visiting and getting around Curacao can be very challenging as only the main streets have road signs. The one thing that I have never witnessed before is that the road rules in Curacao are based on mutual courtesy where most drivers give way to side roads and intersections to allow for a more sensible flow of traffic. If you come from NY as we did this seems like a receipt for disaster but once you get used to this system it works very well. Many places such as Jan Soffat have speed bumps from Hell where no matter what kind of speed-monkey you are it is impossible to speed. This has to be the most effective, low cost way to stop traffic fatalities that I have ever seen. San Soffit is a gated community so has a greater sense of security than most places.
There is a little take out food restaurant, about 10 min. drive away, called ASK FOR FOOD (Google it) where you can get amazing meals prepared fresh for about $14 each. Next door to them is a wonderful little wine boutique, that is hardly noticeable from the road which sells a variety of really great red wines for around $10. You do however have to ask for it because it is normally shelved out of direct line of sight in favor of more expensive wines. They should call their store ASK FOR $10 WINE.
In January at 7:15pm it is pitch black outside so if you want to relax in your room and watch TV that was not available at the moment. We however brought a a laptop and watched Netflix, with our US based account) so could catch up on movies and mini series with no problems at all.
