Private bright & sunny room in century old home. Your hosts are connected in the community, love to entertain and will make you feel like you are family or old friends.
Eddy and I have 2 bedrooms for rent in our historical home in Springfield, Jacksonville.
This listing is for our bedroom that has a FULL size bed (check our other listing for the other Bedroom wiht a queen size bed). We have 2 bathrooms to share with hosts and other guests. No private bathrooms (sorry). There's also wireless internet throughout the house.
We have 2 cats and 2 small friendly dogs who love company! One of the dogs is a barker! He welcomes you in the house as well as barks when dogs pass by outside. This can be a problem for people who like to sleep in.
Please let us know a few days ahead if you are interested in one of our rooms. We are very busy and need to make sure the house is ready for guests. A message with your intentions for your stay is also greatly appreciated.
The house is over 100 years old, it can be drafty in the winter months, but we make sure guests are comfortable.
You have access to the whole house (kitchen, dinning room, living room, washer & dryer).
Other fun stuff you can borrow:
- Bike & lock
- Museum membership to MOCA & Cummer Museum & Garden
- Discs (freezebies) for playing the Disc Golf course in Klutho Park
- 2 tennis raquets (tennis court 2 blocks away)
Interaction with our guests varies depending on each guests and on our schedule. We want our guests to have the best experience, so we adapt to their needs.
Historic Springfield is the oldest neighborhood in Jacksonville. Most homes are over a 100 years old. Like many urban areas in the US, Springfield detoriated with the growth of the suburbs. It is now actively being remodeled, but you will see a lot of abandonned homes and still a lot of poverty. It is a great community of people trying to bring back Springfield to it's original glory. Voted #1 comeback neighborhood of the South by Southern Living magazine and situated in the urbancore of Jacksonville, we are walking distance from Shands Hospital and a five minutes from downtown.
Lots of neighborhood charms; old homes, big trees, coffee shop, candy store, local bars & restaurants... Because of the proximity to downtown, we are centrally located and have easy access to I-95 as well as I-10 and about 20 minutes driving to the Jax Beach. We are also surrounded by great older neighborhoods like San Marco, Riverside and Avondale.
We are 15 minutes walk to the central bus station in Jacksonville. However, public transportation is not the best and your commute can be very long.
However if you are visiting downtown Jacksonville and around, we have a bike for guests to use. Walking is not too bad either.
We are 20 minutes from the airport by car or taxi. A taxi ride will run about $30. No convient bus route, sorry.
We often host supper club at our house. We call it Urban Feast. You can find us on (website hidden) for upcoming events. We will let you know if a dinner is planned during your stay.
Eddy and Marie and their beautiful home are AmAzInG!! My husband and I were in town for a festival as artists and were looking for the perfect place to be our home away from home! This was it! We had long days of dealing with over 150,000 attendees to the festival and it was so great to return to this beautiful home at the end of the day to be greeted by the always smiling Marie. Marie provided us with the all important "shelf in the fridge" and "shelf in the pantry" so that we could stock up on all the nibbles we needed before bed and in the morning! They have fantastic and loving pets that provide the snuggles and cuddles that pet owners miss when they are away from home. Our favorite spot soon became the beautiful and large wrap around porch! We were so busy though that we did not get to attend Eddy and Marie's notoriously amazing dinner parties! Many people we meet asked if we had eaten Eddy's food.....he is well known for his inspired cooking and The Chef in town! We left wanting to be their neighbors and plan to return just to spend more time with Marie and Eddy!! We meet many of their friends and they were all delightful! Staying in Jacksonville for one nigh or a month, this is the spot!!!! Thank You Marie and Eddy! ( Tell Mia we are sorry we did not get to tell her good-bye)
This place was great! Eddy n Marie are amazing, they were so helpful and know the town for your travel questions. Room was fantastic, the house was really comfortable. Highly recommend. This was as the description had described! Great place to relax.
I stayed with Marie and Eddy for two nights while visiting a good friend in Jacksonville. I did not plan it, but it turned out I was only 0.5 miles from my friends home! My hosts lived a mere 5-10 minutes from Downtown Jacksonville where I was introduced to a great lounge, a fabulous Thai restaurant, and one of many performing art venues where my friend and I enjoyed a jazz concert. Eddy is a chef and we both enjoyed talking about food, sustainability, buying local, and starting a small business. Marie is this wonderfully social human being who is so easy to talk too! She was kind enough to take me to breakfast and our easily flowing conversation centered around our respective childhoods and the traveling we have done, and want to do. Their two dogs are the sweetest things and they do not bark at night, so no worries if you are coming home late from exploring the local scene. The room was comfortable and sharing a bathroom was never an issue. What a lovely lovely couple and I hope to see them again soon. Certainly, if I'm staying in Jacksonville, this is where I will stay. Thank you guys!!
I had the best time at Marie and Eddy's place. The room was amazingly designed. The place was quiet, clean, safe, and most importantly, so welcoming with Marie and Eddy outstanding hospitality. It has been more than three years that I have my AirB'n'B account and this experience was by far the best one. My trip was for a conference downtown. They lend me their bike to ride there 15 minutes ride and 35 minutes walk. I am looking forward to have an excuse to come back to Jacksonville to meet Marie, Eddy, and the friendly dogs and cats.
I was only expecting a place to sleep during a music festival with a friend.. what I got was an experience in Jacksonville that took me by surprise! When we arrived, we walked from the neighborhood to one of the local restaurants that Marie had recommended. We strolled up and down the streets looking at the recent renovations of the enormous two story homes with wrap around porches and picture windows. We also passed forgotten, yet potential... homes with boarded up windows and doors. The old neighborhood is under restoration and we enjoyed walking through the transition period, haunting and inspirational. We chose a restaurant with a fun name, Uptown Market, and the menu and atmosphere did not disappoint! Marie and Eddy's home is warm and inviting, we shared wine and great conversation, had a quiet and restful nights sleep, and enjoyed a morning with coffee, espresso, and Marie's favorite Sunday morning tv show. Truly a great experience, you want to stay at this house, and more than anything... you want to meet Marie and Eddy!
Marie & Eddie were so kind, they made us the best soup I've ever had in my life. Their house was beautiful, and were super helpful during our stay. I highly recommend!
I had the most warm and welcoming stay with Marie and Eddie. They are amazing and I so enjoyed my stay in the area and be so comfortable in their beautiful home. They are excellent hosts that make you feel so great. And the pets and so warm and cute. Marie and I went out for a wonderful breakfast prior to my departure and it was so nice to meet up with a fellow Canadian. I will definitely be back some day for sure!
Wonderful home and hosts! We didn't get to meet Eddy, but Marie was a wonderful host and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We were in Jacksonville for the GA/FL game, and the set up was perfect.
The pink room is very clean and spacious, has a comfortable feather top bed, small TV, nice furniture and closet. The room even has a set up of toiletries in case you forgot anything.
The bathroom is shared, and right down the hall. It is very clean. The shower has great water pressure.
The rest of the house is very cool. You can tell Marie is an artist with all of the original art on the walls and her impeccable design taste. Small touches make you feel at home. You have use of the fridge, wine cooler, and espresso maker (all you need!). They have 2 sweet, small dogs and 2 friendly cats that we met and played with all weekend.
I would highly recommend it, and you cant beat the price!
"Don’t look anywhere else or any other place, if Marie and Eddy have a place to stay"--- ( WOW that sounds rhyming!!! :))
If you are coming to Jacksonville, by my experience, they are the BEST hosts and best guides in town.
My stay with Marie and Eddy in their beautiful, lovely, entertaining, spacious Springfield house has been the BEST of anywhere so far. Living with them is just like living with your family.
Starting with the house, the house is very close to downtown (10 minute bike, 5 minute bus, 25 minute walk), quiet and clean, historic neighborhood. They even gave me their bike for travel. The house is always clean, lively, has dogs (Oh! I just love their dogs!!!) and cats. The room was spacious, has everything - dresser, TV, big bed, closet, cabinet. You are allowed to use their silverware, fridge, TV, you can even play your own songs on their music system and relax on their comfy furniture. You will feel that you are living in your another home in Jacksonville.
I stayed there for my internship and now after my stay, I would say they are the best people in town. Through them, I got introduced to so many amazing people, made some great friends, did so many things, tried different cuisines, had so many "first-timers" and enjoyed my every moment spent there.
They are super nice, caring, amazing, knowledgeable, great chefs and just 'PERFECT'. I did so many things with them and their friends, had parties, went to so many parties, to the beach, to several places in/around Jax, restaurants, car shows, did skateboarding and lots more. The best time during my stay was the 'Dinner time' where I got the opportunity to taste so many delicious things. Eddy and Marie were always there for help, in everything that I asked for. I will miss my stay in this amazing house and will make frequent trips to Jacksonville to meet these amazing people.
All I can say, staying with Marie and Eddy should be one on the 'things to do ',if you are coming in Jacksonville. They are the best.
Thank you so much Marie and Eddy :)
We spent a great week with Marie and Eddie at their home in Jacksonville. Their house is a great historic house with much of its original charm retained. There house is in a GREAT convenient location to downtown and we enjoyed many of the area restaurants, explored their neighborhood (Springfield) and nearby San Marcos, saw a play at Theater Jacksonville and listened to the symphony at Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. We also went to Jacksonville Beach, Talbots Islands and Amelia Island which are just a short 20-30 minute drive away. We stayed in the "red" bedroom and it was larger than expected, had empty dresser drawers, empty closet and lots of hooks for our belongings along with being quiet and clean. Marie and Eddie are wonderfully fun-loving and genuine people. We appreciated them sharing all of their local knowledge of places to go and things to do...all suggestions given were great! Marie and Eddie have pets (cats and dogs) who have hilarious personalities and they provided us with lots of entertainment during our visit. Eddie (who is a professional chef) even cooked an amazing meal for us on our last night. All in all, this was a 10 out of 10 trip. Great house, convenient location and most importantly caring and thoughtful hosts. When we come back to Jacksonville, we will certainly stay with Marie and Eddie again. Thanks for a great week!
