Eddy and I have 2 bedrooms and a sunroom for rent in our historical home in Springfield, Jacksonville.
This listing is for our bedroom that has a FULL size bed (check our other listing for the other Bedroom wiht a queen size bed). We have 2 bathrooms to share with hosts and other guests. No private bathrooms (sorry). There's also wireless internet throughout the house.
We have 2 cats and 2 small friendly dogs who love company! One of the dogs is a barker! He welcomes you in the house as well as barks when dogs pass by outside. This can be a problem for people who like to sleep in.
Please let us know a few days ahead if you are interested in one of our rooms. We are very busy and need to make sure the house is ready for guests. A message with your intentions for your stay is also greatly appreciated.
The house is over 100 years old, it can be drafty in the winter months, but we make sure guests are comfortable. We provide warm duvets and space heaters. Summer months can be hot! We keep the AC at 80 (27c).
You have access to the whole house (kitchen, dinning room, living room, washer & dryer).
Other fun stuff you can borrow:
- Bike & lock
- Museum membership to MOCA & Cummer Museum & Garden
- Discs (freezebies) for playing the Disc Golf course in Klutho Park
- 2 tennis raquets (tennis court 2 blocks away)
Interaction with Guests
Interaction with our guests varies depending on each guests and on our schedule. We want our guests to have the best experience, so we adapt to their needs.
Historic Springfield is the oldest neighborhood in Jacksonville. Most homes are over a 100 years old. Like many urban areas in the US, Springfield deteriorated with the growth of the suburbs. It is now actively being remodeled, but you will see a lot of abandoned homes, still a lot of poverty and occasional gun shots (usually in the distance). It is a great community of people trying to bring back Springfield to it's original glory. Voted #1 comeback neighborhood of the South by Southern Living magazine and situated in the urbancore of Jacksonville, we are walking distance from Shands Hospital and a five minutes from downtown.
Lots of neighborhood charms; old homes, big trees, coffee shop, candy store, local bars & restaurants... Because of the proximity to downtown, we are centrally located and have easy access to I-95 as well as I-10 and about 20 minutes driving to the Jax Beach. We are also surrounded by great older neighborhoods like San Marco, Riverside and Avondale.
We are 15 minutes walk to the central bus station in Jacksonville. However, public transportation is not the best and your commute can be very long.
However if you are visiting downtown Jacksonville and around, we have a bike for guests to use. Walking is not too bad either.
We are 20 minutes from the airport by car or taxi. A taxi ride will run about $30. No convient bus route, sorry.
Other Things to Note
We often host supper club at our house. We call it Urban Feast. You can find us on (website hidden) for upcoming events. We will let you know if a dinner is planned during your stay.
Don't let the pets out! Please, keep the front door closed as you bring things in and out. Our cat Ernest is an escape artist.
No smoking allowed!!
Obvious, but must be mentioned:
Please, be respectful of our space, animals and other guests. This means: try to be quiet when people are sleeping. Pick-up after yourself in common areas. Be nice to our animals.
We were in Jacksonville for 3 nights and had a very nice stay. Because we were out so much we barely saw Marie or Eddy but they were both friendly and hospitable. Our room was cozy and clean and the whole house had an artsy, historic feel. The neighborhood is a bit depressed and far from picturesque, but we were able to park right next to their house. Overall, a nice yet affordable option not too far from the beach!
We like to stay here. Easy, conveniently located for us, and des
It's a drenching downpour that closed some access roads, we navigated around and had a restful night. Love the little doggies and complacent big, fat cat. Thanks.
Marie and Eddy are great hosts. They were having a dinner party for Eddy's birthday and I got the chance to hang out with them and some of their friends. Super nice people! I would highly recommend staying here. They make you feel very welcome!
This was my first AirBnB, it was truly an ease and comfortable. Marie was vey friendly and accommodating (so were both of their dogs: Ricco and Sanchez). Everything went off without a hitch and I would recommend any family / friends who travel through Jacksonville to stay with Marie and Eddy. The location is only a minute or two off of I95, which was perfect for people commuting through like me. Marie was also very quick to communicate and message back before and during my stay.
Marie and Eddy were great hosts who went well out of there way to help me. It was great just being able to sit down and have a chat, it felt homely which was great after having being away from home for 7 months. As someone travelling it was great that they were only a $5 Uber from the Greyhound too. They left me a spare key which allowed me entry in to the house before they were their which saved me from standing out in the heat. They had many great recommendations, which were also very close to their house.
Don't know what else to say, but they were awesome hosts and would highly recommend to friends and family.
Marie and Eddy are nothing short of a testament to humanity. As hosts they go well beyond the requisite invitation; the're as kind and welcoming as one could hope. They have a lovely home, and one immediately feels at ease while staying there.
Marie was kind enough to pick us up from the train station without us even asking and from the minute she picked us up to the minute she dropped us back she was a welcoming and warm host who made our brief visit so lovely. We were made to feel extremely welcome and given sound advice on what to do in Jacksonville. Overall we would throughly recommend Eddy and Marie's accommodation to anyone and would gladly stay there again.
